Adam and James were not about to take a nap with the remaining $400 clues to give Katie a chance to play the FJ! round. No mercy.
I thought the same thing. Let her back in the game!! When Alex announced she was out of the hole but not on the plus side, someone's mic picked up a very audible snicker. What was that about?

I really felt the pathos for the challengers today, especially Katie who hit a brick wall and watched her Jeopardy! dream die in a matter of minutes. I'm not enjoying the bloodbath

THURBER - nope! Feet of clay? Huh? The nursery rhyme? Not in a million years. Damnyouautocorrect went right past me. The rest of the material was much more my speed.
I didn't hear any snicker, so no comment about that.

As for "feet of clay," I guess it helps to have a good working knowledge of the Bible. This reference comes from (IIRC) a dream interpreted by Daniel in the book of Daniel.

Interesting to me that you say you're "not enjoying the bloodbath." I have been as much in awe of James's run as anyone, but I share the feeling. After a while "dominance" is too mild a word. He starts to look like the New England Patriots playing against (pick you local high school football team).

No one seems to know how he does it. I mean, we all "get" that it's a combination of insane buzzer skills, astonishing knowledge base, and ice-in-the-veins wagering bravado. But having said that, I don't think anyone "gets' how all of that can co-exist inside one player and in none of the thousands of players who have come before.

I recall reading an eyewitness account of the German army marching into Paris (1940?). The witness said that, even from the perspective of a conquered nation, the troops marching into the city at first seemed impressive and awesome. But as the hours turned into more than an unbroken day of one uniformed battalion after another, his eyes just started to glaze over at the unreality of it, the seeming unfairness of it.

And please believe me, this is NOT to suggest anything unfair about James's run. Everything he is doing, he is winning fair and square. But it IS a bloodbath and it's so one-sided that the only question left in any game seems to be "how many tens of thousands can he afford to wager in FJ without putting his lead at risk (last night $40,000!!).

I am as curious as many others to see if he can challenge the seemingly unassailable records of KJ. But I frankly miss seeing occasional signs of actual competition on the show.

Snicker aside, I'm guessing the pace of the game was such that they probably didn't even notice at the time that they were doing that. You're up there, and you want to get right answers and that's pretty much your focus.
Yes, I wouldn't fault the guys. They're just playing the game. I kept saying "Get in there, Katie!" but it was up to her to get back into the swing of it.

It makes perfect sense for a dominant player to use this strategy, but I don't really recall anyone doing it consistently before James. I'm sure someone here can correct me if I'm wrong, and I probably am! :D

Agreed. This isn't a coached sport where the coach can put in the benchwarmers. When you're up there you are focused on buzzing in and answering the questions, not being "sportsmanlike" to someone who's trailing badly.

LOL. Jason, Jeff, James. Whatever.

The good thing about being human is that we can experience multiple opposing feelings in our superior brains: Wow, James is awesome! I hope he loses! Poor Katie! How exciting! How sad!

Sneaking a Bible question into a Daily Double in a PIG LATIN category is just brutal - and exactly why I could never pull off what James is doing. But I do understand that your best shot of winning is to go big on DDs and get to Final with a lock or crush game.

I think that in addition to what you've stated that James is exceptionally quick; he processes the clue and accesses the correct response with hyper speed. I'm enjoying the bloodbath and hope that it lasts a very long time.

The FJ wasn't that difficult. How many regions can you name that speak Russian or is a former Soviet Satellite?

Pretty much one or two. No bonus points for knowing more like knowing Cities past Moscow, St. Petersburg, Volgograd(similar to river's name), Kaliningrad(exclave), Kazan(Tatar), Sochi(Winter Olympics), and Vladivostok(eastern)

Also wanted to point out: funny coincidence that James' total after today ($566,660) is very close to what the theoretical maximum of what one could earn in one game of Jeopardy! is ($566,400), assuming all 3 DD's in the top row. So it only took James 9x the time.

James made this look so easy. Shame Katie couldn't get on track.

Had a closing shift and then went to see Trout Fishing in America today. Good children's music is so rare.

I was talking to my mom today about how hawk cries are often used for eagles, so Behind the Scenes for $600 was an easy get.

Ran Also a First Name and Saw It on the Internet.

Blanked on Sex Pistols, outright didn't know Fall Out Boy. Still better than I thought I'd do in that category.

NHO "power play" or Honeymoon capital = Niagara Falls.

Big area in Russia = Siberia? NOPE. See?! Why should I bother with a goddamn guess?!? WHY DO I ALWAYS GO FOR NEGBAIT EVEN WHEN THERE IS NONE?!?!

It is if you have zero clue how big 10,000 square miles is. That could be the size of Mars, Minnesota, Monaco, or Merdian Mall.

The other part of the clue that screamed "NOT SIBERIA" was that the clocks were moved forward, meaning you should be looking west, young man, not east.

Dyscalculia strikes again.

Still, even if you had literally written "NOT SIBERIA" in the clue, I'd have had nothing. I know there is... something called Crimea, but have clue zero as to what that might be.
