I hope they do another UToC-type tournament again. It would be great to watch James go against the likes of Ken Jennings, Brad Rutter, and Roger Craig. Whenever his run ends, that is. Probably in 2025 or so.

Fortunately for us Sony is probably wellll ahead of us in contriving an opportunity to bring back Ken and Brad for a potential encounter with James.

Assuming he kept up with his current average and continue winning until he has won 74 games (one of the only records of Ken Jennings he hasn't already broken), James would win a little over $5,100,000.

A bet in the $90,000s and he's over 200 grand. It's not completely crazy or impossible to imagine it as James could have done it.
My record on the Jeopardy! Wii game is $280,000. Try to beat that! ;)

At this point, where does James stand on the all-time money list? Like, including tournament wins etc.

Brad Rutter: $4+ million
Ken Jennings: $3+ million
...
James Holzhauer: $697,000

Did you ever have a game where you answered all 60 correct. I was able to do that recently on the Jeopardy! I don't know about that, but I don't think he'll need to come anywhere near 74 wins (which was a statistically improbable streak even for a player of Ken's ability) for the producers to want to make it happen. Already there's been a lot of chatter about how James compares to Ken in regular-play games; and I suspect that if he were to pass Julia in wins (by which point he would probably be well over $1 million), the idea would start to gain serious traction. Of course, for all I know James could lose tomorrow or next week, which would probably render this discussion moot.

I also think that if the goal is to crown the GOAT, a sprawling, multi-month tournament like the UTOC is unnecessary (and it would also greatly reduce the number of slots for new contestants).

They are not going to plan a big tournament of any sort with Alex's health the way it is.

Cumulative Coryat after 10 games: Ken 292,000, James 290,000. (I believe #3 is Matt Jackson with 250,200.)

If you counted correct answers and first buzzes today, you can update the following:

Cumulative total correct answers after 9 games: Ken 301, James 292. (Ken had 40 in his game 10, so I'm pretty sure he's still ahead.)

Cumulative first buzzes after 9 games: Ken 278, James 270. (Ken had 37 in his game 10.) (I believe #3 after 9 games is Joon Pahk with 234, achieved in 8 games. #4 is Arthur Chu with 230, #5 is Matt Jackson with 229. James was trailing Joon after 8 games, BTW. Ken had 252 in his first 8 games.)

(Fun fact: At 5 games mark, Jerome Vered beats both Ken and James on all three measures.)

No, I haven't. I'm not as good on the real J! clues, obviously, but I've had that game since it first came out, so throughout the years I've learned to master most of it. I might start a fresh run again sometime and keep track of the entire streak.

Maybe James did a Michael Larson and figured out exactly what clues would come up at what time for every game he is going to play. I am kidding...I think.

The fact that he is making these insane DD wagers and isn’t even putting himself at much risk if he happened to miss one is incredible. How often can you wager $25,000 and say to yourself “game is pretty much over even if I miss this?”

I can understand why one might get tired of such dominance, but I won’t. Watching Jennings make his run was game show history. Watching Julia make a run (and catching) Madden was fun. Watching James essentially destroy Jeopardy is crazy fun television. The only people I feel for are the opponents - we will never know if there was another potential super champ in the midst. I guess the 5-timer that got onto the show right before he did is thanking his lucky stars that he put his $100,000+ and automatic TOC berth in his pocket before they booked James to appear.

I don’t follow the trivia community at all, but it appears the only way he is going down is if you find someone that is around his age with similar trivia chops and guts. Or if James simply gets tired and his buzzer skill goes off kilter by a millisecond.

It is sad that Alex’s health is a major concern going forward because watching him host a potential tourney with James, Brad, Ken, Alex, Roger, Larissa, Austin, Matt, Buzzy, Ben Ingram, Julia, etc. etc. would be great TV.

Well I wondered if I might be the only one. As amazing as it is, it's exactly what you say: not "what I want to watch."

hbomb1947 wrote: Wed Apr 17, 2019 8:36 pm I know we just had a supertourney; but I wonder at what point TPTB might decide that as was the case with Ken, it would be a letdown to place James in a "mere" TOC, as the viewing public would like to see how he would fare against the other immortals. I'm not talking about anything as long and crazy as the UTOC; but there would definitely be great interest in seeing how James performs head-to-head against Ken and Brad (and a few others like Alex, Roger, Austin, Julia, Dave, and Larissa). I realize that there would be risks in replicating a lot of the All Star tourney field so soon; maybe it could just be a 3-player event like the Watson games. And after all, playing J! is pretty much what Brad does for a living. :D
Please, God, NO! I really don't want to see the same players---no matter how much I liked them before---keep coming back again, and again and again.
