I'll get the party started.

Doing the math led me to April 1865 and I immediately thought of Lincoln's assassination, so I spent the thirty seconds thinking of who I could pair with Andrew Johnson. The Civil War never even crossed my mind.

I've been watching a couple playoff games tonight so I missed most of the game but I managed to catch FJ. Awesome to see James become a millionaire.

James could have easily gone for more on DD2 & DD3 with his huge leads. This was a day he could have set a new 1-day record with the 4/4 on big clues and huge advantage on the buzzer.

I learned today that Cary Grant was in the Beatles as Alex's impression while reading that clue was nowhere near that member of the Fab Four.

The FJ! clue was a head-scratching immediate no-doubter as I almost could not believe J! was asking something that would be better placed in the June tournament. Any misses that get posted here will be fascinating exercises in over-thinking. (Yes, I know that I am now setting myself up to miss tomorrow with a clue that will poll at 75% as I'll never learn.)

James needs to get one of those shirts with two commas.
had nothing for that one

About the only thing wrong with this game is that King James Holzhauer missed the King James clue.

Then again Kareem Abdul-Jabbar missed the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar clue so maybe that's a trend.

It’s amazing how many bites TPH still gets around here.

On another note, check out thejeopardyfan.com. If our scroll down a bit on their site they have a Ken and James comparison with detailed stats after 13 games.

MarkBarrett wrote: $1,155,000 for 15 games is $77,000 average. With $1,061,554 banked that has James needing $93,446 (and a win) tomorrow to hit the magical average. To even mention such hypotheticals would have seemed insane prior to James hitting the stage.
I'm predicting (for fun) he'll need Wednesday's & Thursday's games to eclipes that average.
In the meantime, his next significant landmark: He needs just a bit under $200,000 to reach one half of Ken's regular game total winnings.
So that's roughly 3 games worth, at his current rate. He could attain that by the end of this week. :!:

Alex clearly doesn't have a grasp on Liverpaudlian (sp) accents. That was awful.

Did James set the record for the first round at 20,000? He is a steamroller.
Also, anyone want to join me in petitioning WABC in NYC to air Jeopardy after hours on Friday? The NFL draft is on all night and they are airing Wheel of Fortune at 2:30 but not Jeopardy!

$1M! Woo-hoo! Now doesn't he need to leave for somebody's birthday party?

On Mercury: Bach, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky. Uh, what are volcanoes? (James: What are craters?)

At first glance, you could mistake Mercury for the Moon. The closest planet to the Sun is a grey ball of rock, scarred by countless craters.

There was one short stretch of the Double Jeopardy! round where James wasn't dominating and I thought, this is how it will happen. But not today.

I'd like to see somebody this week - anybody! - deny James at least 1 DD opportunity. C'mon, people!

Thanks, Mark Barrett, for making us all feel dumb for getting excited about nailing Final Jeopardy ;)

13/14 correct in FJ = 93%
Season 35 correct FJ average for all contestants is: 53.28%
So his chance of losing is 7% * 7% * 53.28% = 2.7182% which makes his chance of winning 99.728%.
The streak of games probability becomes lower than 50% after 254 games.
Get comfortable. :D
That's not how probability works. Those are not independent events, plus the frequencies are from a small sample.

Alex Trebek earns $10,000,000.00 per season for hosting Jeopardy!, There are approximately 230 episodes per season, which calculates out to Alex earning $43,478.26 per episode. James earns almost double that per episode at $75k. Let that sink in for a bit...

I said Ulysses Grant and Jefferson Davis. Not big on Civil War era American History, but still facepalmed that I overlooked Lee.

OK, I want 50 grand for naming Grant and Lee. :D James' kryptonite may be very recent music but it will be a rare contestant that could come up with that 21 Pilots (or whatever) response. He must have a world atlas seared into his brain, he gets geography clues from any angle, but especially physical location (x is NNE of Y, etc..).

One sad side effect - me and twelvefootgirl aren't trying to imprint the challengers' names at the beginning of the show ;(. They are grist for the mill, fodder for the cannon, redshirts for the landing party. I was inspired that redshirt #1 went to the $1000 clues before they were vacuumed up.

James seems to be making nice with the also-rans (nobody who makes the show is a loser!) after their whuppin'. It seems like I met someone in Vegas once that bet sports and was insulted to be called a gambler. He fancied his craft to be an intellectual pursuit and was a little self important. Kind of like poker players, lol..

I appreciate that you allowed for the possibility that James could accumulate $93,446 and lose.

BTW, I assume this is the quickest to a million?
Brad Rutter did it in 13 games...though 8 of those were tournaments...

I think he had like $22,000 in an earlier game.

Awesome to see James break a million... NOW GO AND BREAK KEN'S 2.5M RECORD.

21 Pilots (or whatever) response
They asked about 21 Pilots on one of the online tests I think last year. It made me lookup them up on Spotify, and I enjoy some of their songs.

Before I played pub trivia tonight, they had Jeopardy! playing in the bar on one of the televisions.

Yes, the $20K would have been a record if not for James's game 7.

Incidentally, James' average is $79,566 if you consider Day 6 (his only sub-$30,000 game) and outlier and don't count it.

His $131,127 game was further away from the mean than the $27,190 game was.
