Re: Thursday, June 20, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Sometimes the writers will have pop culture material that misses the mark for the 13-17 age range. CPA stumping the teens was a different case of a surprise although whoever wins the $100,000 might get familiar with that profession.
The FJ! category had me peg the right guy with my first thought. Paine and Henry were on the second level of instinct. When I saw the clue it was a laugher that my precall hit the mark and I spent think time triple checking my spelling in recalling the FJ! round from this game: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=563
Today makes 4/4 for the champ's spot earning the automatic bid to next week.

Is it possible for the champ not to get a spot next week?

Each winner of games this week, quarterfinals 1-5, are automatic semifinalists. The four highest-scoring non-winners are wildcards and also become semifinalists.
The 5W + 4WC = 9SF. Monday the 24th - Wednesday the 26th are semifinal matches with only the winner moving on to the 2-day finals.

I think by "champ's spot" Mark was referring to the leftmost (furthest upstage) lectern.
Re: Thursday, June 20, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Once again I forget which planet has the rings. Also whiffed a retail clue because I didn't know what year Gap was founded.
The college and TV categories were both 0/5 for me. Only vaguely heard of Gilmore Girls, but the other four rang no bells at all.
Also 0/5 in Rome.
No guess on FJ! I didn't see a TOM anywhere, nor could I match any 18th century men to newspapers.

Forget the FJ! clue. Play the category. A radio station calls you and says for $10,000 name an 18th century American. Keeping in mind this is Teen week, the right guy should be the top choice.TenPoundHammer wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2019 7:42 pm Once again I forget which planet has the rings. Not necessarily. It very well could be a far more obscure name. My knowledge of history is abysmal, so I'm bracing for the far, far, FAR greater odds of it being someone else, teen tourney or otherwise.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2019 7:44 pm Forget the FJ! clue. Took a bagel on Actors & Roles. Seriously, writers, WGAF? :
Remembered that bit of trivia about Ben Franklin.
Seems to me that "Silence" would be the last thing someone who preached "Sinners in the Hands of an angry God" would go by.

It's been a while since I've seen National Treasure, but I do remember that the Silence Dogood letters feature quite prominently and their history is a key plot point.
Not many people can say they've lost four times on Jeopardy!.

Re: Thursday, June 20, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I'm glad Jackson had sense enough not to make the standard cover wager. I was a little concerned when his incorrect response was revealed, having seen the leader in Monday's game make the 'normal game' FJ wager. That person would have been relegated to the audience for the semi-finals by now if they had missed.

But Dogood would not be.
Edwards was actually a polymath, though there's no way he's going to be the subject of a Teen Week FJ (especially for anything other than that one sermon).
Re: Thursday, June 20, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
The only Actors/Roles I got was Will Ferrell, since I've actually seen Lego Movie. One of only two times I've actually found Ferrell palatable (the other being Elf).
