I wouldn't count Brad out.
I'd rather cuddle then have sex. If you're into grammar, you'll understand.

I agree... this is the only thing I would have done differently if I planned this tournament (though I understand other factors likely went into the prize distribution.) If the goal is a GOAT tourney, ensure the grand prize is large enough that whoever wins takes the GOAT title where it really counts.MinnesotaMyron wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2019 3:23 pm "Only" a million bucks for the top prize? Seems chintzy.
Seriously though, 2 million would have bumped Ken or James to the top of the money list, or cemented Brad as the All Time. C'mon Consumer Cellular, pony up.
Can't wait to see this regardless. Heart says Ken, gut says Brad, head says James.

Same here but I'd add a final line:
Who do I know will somehow win despite or even because of poor wagers combined with bizarre luck and a few inexplicable decisions by James and Ken? Brad
I'm not sure I can watch this.

Well, if there's one thing we know is not going to happen, it's poor wagering. Not with these guys.opusthepenguin wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2019 5:32 pmSame here but I'd add a final line:

You sure wouldn't think so, would you? I guess the devil will have to get creative. At this point, he's gotta be asking himself, was Brad's soul really worth all this trouble?Charis wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2019 5:33 pmWell, if there's one thing we know is not going to happen, it's poor wagering. Curious: What game did he win because of his poor wagering? Like, he won M$M SF because of Leslie's wager (although he also did miswager, but if he correctly wagered he would have won given Leslie's anyways; also, to be fair he outplayed her completely besides her big DD) and similar in the UToC QF (again, he miswagered, but would have won even with a correct wager). But I can't recall him ever winning because of a bad wager, and, frankly, if he did, maybe the wager was no so bad, no?
But don't worry, James is the new breed, he'll be the one to beat Brad.

Too bad it's for not for $2million*. Would have been nice to give all three the chance at the records for highest Jeopardy! earnings and highest game show earnings.
* Or, even cooler, $1 million per "match" won (although that would potentially be too much money for the show to afford!)

I wouldn't bet money on a professional gambler making a bad wager.opusthepenguin wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2019 5:32 pmSame here but I'd add a final line:

After Larissa Kelly, Alex Jacob and Matt Jackson all looked amazing at the all-star tournament, I'm disappointed that we have Brad and Ken again. Brad and Ken are great, but I think any of the uninvited three could win a tournament of them + Brad, Ken and James.

I feel like Alex Jacob is the one contestant who has a legitimate claim to having should have been invited (4-person games!) Larissa and Roger at least had their chances in the BotD tournament. Arthur Chu is the other post-BotD contestant who I would have liked to have seen against those three, but I can understand not inviting him since he didn't win his ToC.
I am looking forward to watching this!

Re: It's happening!!! The GOAT Tourney, w/ Brad + Ken + James
Me neither. Nor did I say that would happen. I attributed the possibility of poor wagers to Brad alone. He has a history. It would be fair to add that Ken's not the greatest at wagering either. In particular, he's too cautious. And he admits it. That could cost him dearly when he no longer has the cushion of being the best player on stage by a significant margin. Will he be able to step up his wagering game for this tourney? Who knows? I'm betting he's trying to psych himself up for that right now but even he doesn't know whether he'll chicken out when the opportunity arises. As for James, he DOES have a history of not making optimal wagers, even if his wagers aren't outright bad. Sooner or later that could bite him in the butt. Someone who knows his particular numeric fetishes might even be able to exploit that knowledge. I don't think Brad or Ken will do that, though. Not their style.mas3cf wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2019 5:59 pmI wouldn't bet money on a professional gambler making a bad wager.opusthepenguin wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2019 5:32 pmSame here but I'd add a final line:

I guess Brad and Ken will have a chance to top Emma's record of beating James twice.

Arguably his ToC final wasn't a runaway because he made a bad wager.mas3cf wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2019 5:59 pmI wouldn't bet money on a professional gambler making a bad wager.opusthepenguin wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2019 5:32 pmSame here but I'd add a final line:

I read somewhere that the TOC was taped on September 17/18th. So does that mean they actually taped 10 episodes on the 18th? That's quite impressive IMO if that's the case.Spiny Norman wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2019 3:31 pm The big question - who is putting up the $1.5M purse? ABC? I don't think it will be Consumer Cellular.
ABC will be able to sell the ad spots for this event at a premium, but enough of a premium to pay off for them? This may be like the World Series, where they make audience guarantees to the advertisers and then ABC needs the tournament (which I think is a mis-nomer) to go beyond 4 or 5 games in order to meet those guarantees.
By the way, I was in the audience for the game that airs tonight (which taped Sept 18). Alex made no mention of this GOAT event at the time. Makes me think that the plan has come together only in the last few weeks.

They will have to create enough boards for fourteen shows. I wonder what they would do with the unused boards. Probably save them for the next TOC?
