Re: Thursday, December 12, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
It's unfortunate for Jennifer that she did not pack enough clothes for playing at a minimum 8 games.
The $400 clue in Kiddie Lit threw me for a second: "The ___ Wizard of Oz"
I got the word in time, but Alex saying, "The which Wizard of Oz" had me hearing "Witch" to puzzle me for a moment.
Those on social media can have fun today with tweets and posts, "Brad lost on Jeopardy!" That will scare lots who might think it's a GOAT spoiler.
Brad's story was another of those with his wife being the one that encouraged him to do the show. Yeah, once again it did not go so well.
Kim found DD2 and trailed 5000 to 13600. +2000
Kim found DD3 and trailed 10200 to 19200. +2000
Kim left after the show with $2000. Barely.
The FJ! round is a place to write something, anything, if at all possible. I did just that and matched Jennifer. Whatever her confidence level was, mine was lower. That's okay as it will look like a line drive in the box score tomorrow.
Jennifer already has Stephanie Jass beat on money by far in regular play. A win tomorrow and then begins the longer trek to attempt to chase down Julia Collins.

Re: Thursday, December 12, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Curious about the hits I did an archive search term of the author's name + Russia:
#7499, aired 2017-03-30 PEN NAMES $800: This author of "The Fountainhead" was born Alissa Rosenbaum in St. Petersburg, Russia
#7053, aired 2015-04-22 AUTHORS: BORN & DIED $800: Born in Russia in 1905, she died in capitalist New York in 1982
#6537, aired 2013-02-05 A STUDENT OF HISTORY $4,000 (Daily Double): Paul Ryan was greatly influenced by this female novelist who studied history in Russia
#6417, aired 2012-07-10 FACTS ABOUT AUTHORS $400: Upon arriving in the U.S. from Russia in 1926, Alisa Rosenbaum took this name; the first name rhymes with "pine"
#4311, aired 2003-05-05 WORLD LIT $400: This "Atlas Shrugged" author shrugged off her native Russia in the 1920s & moved to the U.S.
#1842, aired 1992-09-15 WRITERS $800: She set her first novel, 1936's "We the Living", in her native Russia
If a FJ! clue wants a connection of Russia & woman author which other names are in the mix for regular play? Or is it a Pavlov?

Was struggling to come up with the correct response in FJ, and then realized there really weren't too many options when it came to women authors in the 40s who would know (or even care much) about whether or not the Russians were engaged in propaganda efforts.

The one that comes to mind is Anna Akhmatova, but it looks like she has never been an answer at any level.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 11:36 am Curious about the hits I did an archive search term of the author's name + Russia:If a FJ! clue wants a connection of Russia & woman author which other names are in the mix for regular play? Coryat: $30,600 (40R, 0W)
DJ: 1/3
FJ:
LT: CSI, mall
That was difficult. Or maybe I just wasn’t in a good frame of mind, hard to tell. Gears weren’t turning quickly enough. I got completely blanked in “EL” or “LA”, first time since the ToC. And had no answer for FJ, didn’t know Ayn Rand went back that far (completely unsurprising bit of information, though).

I found the boards difficult too, I was surprised my Coryat even ended up as high as it did. Kiddie Lit. TV. Designers. Movies. Not my strong stuff, to say the least.

Ran Polynesian Words and Biology.
I didn't realize Eric Carle had written any other bug books. I almost fell for the Very Hungry Caterpillar negbait.
Also NHO Batgirl, crushed velvet, The Quiet Place, or Pere Lachaise.
0/5 on Female TV Crime Fighters and Country of the Opera.
See? I told you "Fifth President" would fall completely out of my head two seconds after trying to learn it for the 100th time. What's the use?
What was the TOM for "1945" in Book for $400? That clue was utterly unfamiliar to me.
No guess on FJ! The clue led me absolutely nowhere since I was trying to think if there were any famous female Russian authors.

I know next to nothing about Ayn Rand. Tonight that bit my butt.
Boo, hiss.
And once again, congrats to the champ for another masterful performance.
And congrats also to Kim. Starting in the hole -$1,400 after two clues, I wondered how tough a game she would have. And she truly made Jennifer work for this win. Superb comeback.

i started to root for the champion in this match when the woman challenger was so passive with her daily double wagers...she deserved to lose...she should have got last place if the dude wasn't an idiot and went all in for no reason at all

nagasaki was bombed in 1945...i didn't get it right as i never remember the years of things related to war, but it was definitely a 400 worthy...pretty simple for jeopardy peopleTenPoundHammer wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 8:31 pm Ran Polynesian Words and Biology.

Re: Thursday, December 12, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
The orange turtleneck was game #2 on the first taping day, #4 for the start of the next taping day (though with a sweater-type garment), and then again for #7 today having it wear it twice in the same taping day after having already played a game with it. Because I grab a screenshot for the TJ!F of winners and don't bother deleting them it stands out as the Jennifer collection keeps growing in my December file.CasketRomance wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 8:57 pmMarkBarrett wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 11:04 am It's unfortunate for Jennifer that she did not pack enough clothes for playing at a minimum 8 games.

I consider it unfortunate that Jennifer has had limited ways of rotating the outfits. Yes, of course, she can go get new things to wear with any kind of break in the taping schedule (if she wins tomorrow), but I would think no one wants to go on any game show and be seen wearing the same things in such a short period of time.
The contestant instructions are 2 changes in addition to the first outfit as no one will notice if #1 shows up again in #4. I get that most people won't catch it, so no big deal. I only bring it up in thinking too bad for Jennifer as I'm imagining she might be wishing she had had a little more variety with her.
Or it could be she did not care at all about the duplication days and life goes on for more important things like winning games.
