The game is in and is in decent shape for being completed. Whew! Just in time as family is arriving.

The FJ! clue was an insta-solve as category name + that U. means it's Greek to me to lock in the correct response.

Alex H. was 3/3 on DDs and led as he should for the FJ! round.

In what universe is "Founded by students at William & Mary in 1776" a complete sentence?

WABC7 pre-empts the episode tonight due to basketball and Kristin doesn't get to see her own episode on her local network. It isn't fair. :x

I added a little note to the Archive for it while keeping it since that is what appears.

5R with 1 in the J! round and 4 from clue 21 on in DJ! may have the preemption a blessing? ;)

Coryat 34800 (38R, 1W)
DD 3/3
FJ

I hated having 5 unrevealed clues, even though they were low-dollar ones. Took me every second I had to connect Father/Son/Holy Spirit with the correct response.

Ran The Next Word After.

NHO "Brooklyn Nine Nine" and it was my only miss in the category.

Surprised myself by getting all but "A Star Is Born" in Movie Soundtrack.

I should've run Power Caller, but brain sluggishness caused me to only get $600.

0/5 in Astrological and Mama & Dada,

I constantly get Yosemite and Yellowstone mixed up. Actually had it right this time but clammed because I wasn't sure.

Not even a WAG on FJ! NHO the correct response.

I've heard of it but nothing in my mind differentiates it from any other fraternity or sorority.

I almost stopped at "picky" and then suddenly recalled the name of the New Orleans paper.

It's very different from any other fraternity or sorority... basically, it's just an honor society. The FJ was probably inside baseball for anyone who is a member... I remember hearing about the 1776/W&M thing when I was invited to join.

How on Earth do three J! class players not come up with coal when spotted peat & ignitable rock?
:o
Would TPTB have accepted just the Greek letters for FJ? 8-)

Assuming you put the three correct Greek letters, I imagine they'd have to accept that, since the three words in the accepted answer are only the phonetic spelling of the actual Greek letters.

And talk about instaget...I had this one all written down, signed, sealed, and delivered before AT finished reading the clue.

I came so close in 9 Letter Words - instead of "posterior", I had "derriere". I guess if I had pluralized it...maybe the judges would have to convene? It's etymologically correct, meaning "from behind/the rear". Unfortunately, using my shortcut of "find a medium-long word" didn't work here.

TIL NiCad isn't hyphenated, and that my brain uses old fashioned batteries.

Phi Beta Kappa wasn't in my knowledge base, so it wasn't going to happen. I'd heard OF it, and maybe if given a list of Greek organizations I could have identified it as "the organization that's more of an honor society than a fraternity/sorority", but the W&M connection wasn't there for me. I went for the Boy Scouts, as it was one of my precalls - "ORGANIZATIONS" to me seemed to exclude for-profit businesses, so I started thinking of perhaps churches, non-profits, political groups, etc. Apparently not a great guess, as I was about 140 years off in its founding. And, once could say that technically every president since its founding has been a "member", since they're the honorary President of the Boy Scouts, but JFK was the first one to actually be a Boy Scout in his youth.

As they were negging with bad guesses, I was shouting - it's a hard question (so stay clam), because I answered "lignite". Which I chose from the peat description, and not the ignitable TOM. The judges would probably accept it, but I doubt if it was on the answer sheet. It is basically "almost-coal", on the way to bituminous coal and anthracite if it fully matures.

My only WAG was the correct answer, and i didn't know about the origin school. I only know it as an accolade that I suppose is based on GPA, which makes it a joke since the boomers matriculated. I barely know what matriculated means, but I'm trying to use some of the words I never get around to. I thought of that this season and am wondering when the heck am I ever going to use "Hark" ? Why do we have so many words??
