I'll let the J! writers do the heavy lifting:

#8127, aired 2019-12-31 PSEUDONYMOUS WRITERS $1600: "Lethal White" is the fourth Cormoran Strike novel J.K. Rowling has written using this pseudonym
....

"Troubled Blood" is the fifth Cormoran Strike novel J.K. Rowling has written using this pseudonym

It's due to come out in September.

The US can once again launch people into space!

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-spac ... SKBN2370IM
Just under 19 hours after launching from Florida, NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley arrived at the International Space Station aboard SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule on Sunday, marking the first U.S. space capsule to do so with a crew since 2011.
And note, it's not "Dragon" (strict reading, wrong, but probably a BMS) or "Dragon 2" (definitely BMS), it's "Crew Dragon". There's a second Dragon 2 variant called the "Cargo Dragon".

NBA legend Wes Unseld has died at the age of 74. A physically punishing center and elite rebounder, the 6'7" Unseld spent his entire 13-year career with the Baltimore Bullets (now the Washington Wizards). He's just one of just two players in NBA history to win league MVP as a rookie. The other is Wilt Chamberlain.

Unseld led the Bullets to four NBA Finals appearances, winning a championship and being named Finals MVP in 1978.

In 1996, Unseld was named to the NBA's original list of the 50 greatest players of all time.

World champion gymnast Kurt Thomas has died at the age of 64 after a stroke. Thomas was the first U.S. man to win a world championship in a gymnastics event, winning two gold medals in floor exercise and one on the horizontal bar in 1978-79. He was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2003.

Thomas was also known for his starring role in the gymnastics-as-martial-arts adventure Gymkata (which, on an irrelevant side note, opened at Grauman's Chinese Theatre the month I worked there in 1985).

Kurt Thomas appears seven different times in the J! Archive, and is therefore a name you should know.

Bonnie Pointer, a founding member of the musical group The Pointer Sisters, has died at the age of 69. The real-life sisters made frequent appearances on the Billboard charts in the 1970s and '80s with hits like “I’m So Excited,” “Jump,” “Fire,” “He’s So Shy,” “Neutron Dance,” and “Slow Hand.”

The Pointer Sisters pop up in J! clues and questions every couple of years. Interestingly, Bonnie left the group to try her hand at a solo career in 1977, which might explain why she was rarely mentioned by the J! writers, while sisters Anita, June, and Ruth were often named in clues.

Bonnie won a Grammy for co-writing the group's first hit, "Fairytale."

One other note of interest: The Pointer Sisters were the first African-American group to perform at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.

...well, I'm just going to rip the whole article almost.

https://kotaku.com/new-game-for-treatme ... 1844046557
A new game designed to treat some ADHD symptoms in kids aged 8-12 has been officially approved by the The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, meaning that anyone who wants to attempt treating children with the game needs to get a prescription first.

As AP report, it’s not only the first time the organisation has approved the use of “digital therapy” for the treatment of ADHD, but it’s also “the first time the agency has ever authorized marketing of a game-based therapy for any condition”.

The game, called EndeavorRx, uses a combination of sensory and motor challenges to “help the player improve cognitive functioning”.
I expect it's already up on BuccaneerFirth

Quaker Oats is retiring the Aunt Jemima brand name along with the African-American woman (in various incarnations) that was the face of the pancake mix and syrup. It will be repackaged under a yet-to-be determined name.

British singer Dame Vera Lynn has died at the age of 103. Lynn was best known for her songs “We’ll Meet Again” and “The White Cliffs of Dover,” which were recorded during World War II and became popular with the Allied forces. She was widely known as "the Forces' Sweetheart" and gave a number of concerts for the troops.

In 1952, Vera Lynn's recording of "Auf Wiederseh'n, Sweetheart" became the first song recorded by a foreign artist to reach #1 on the U.S. Billboard charts.

Her version of "We'll Meet Again" was featured over the apocalyptic ending of 1963's Dr. Strangelove, Or How I Learned to Stopped Worrying and Love the Bomb: https://youtu.be/s4VlruVG81w

British actor Ian Holm has died at the age of 88 from a Parkinson's-related illness. Holm earned an Oscar nomination for playing Olympic running trainer Sam Mussabini in 1981’s Best Picture winner, Chariots of Fire. He also played science officer Ash in 1979’s Alien, Father Vito Cornelius in 1997’s The Fifth Element, and Bilbo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. In 1967, Holm earned a Tony Award for his supporting role in Harold Pinter’s The Homecoming.

Film director Joel Shumacher has died at the age of 80. Schumacher began his career as a costume designer on such films as Woody Allen's Bananas and Interiors. He then tried his hand at screenwriting, garnering writing credits on films like Car Wash and The Wiz before moving into the director's chair.

He directed and often cowrote such films as The Incredible Shrinking Woman, St. Elmo's Fire, The Lost Boys, Falling Down, The Client, A Time to Kill, and The Phantom of the Opera. Comic book fans remember him as the director of Batman Forever and the widely panned Batman and Robin, notorious for its introduction of nipples to the Batsuit.

In July 2005, Schumacher introduced an entire category of J! clues on his movies. He was the correct response to a clue as recently as November 2019.

As reported in Variety:

Musical group The Dixie Chicks have officially changed their name to “the Chicks,” after public discussions arose over the appropriateness of the Civil War-era “Dixie” as part of their moniker.

The group had always been unofficially referred to as simply the Chicks by fans and associates, but losing the “Dixie” is still a surprise, albeit a pleasant one to some supporters who had been quietly uncomfortable with the name and its historic connotations. “We want to meet the moment,” the country-pop trio said in a statement on their website.

In an additional statement, the group added: “A sincere and heartfelt thank you goes out to ‘The Chicks’ of NZ for their gracious gesture in allowing us to share their name. We are honored to co-exist together in the world with these exceptionally talented sisters. Chicks Rock! — Emily, Natalie and Martie”

After a brief stint in entertainment, I'm back on the obits desk:

Milton Glaser, the graphic designer who created the “I ❤ NY” logo and co-founded New York magazine, has died on his 91st birthday. Glaser was one of the most influential designers of the late 20th century, creating everything from magazines to advertisements to posters, including the iconic 1966 image of Bob Dylan with psychedelic hair commissioned for the musician’s first greatest hits album.

He also collaborated with his friend Jerome Snyder, design director at Sports Illustrated, on a food column called “The Underground Gourmet,” which focused on inexpensive ethnic restaurants. The column led to both a guidebook and a cookbook.

Glaser has made a single appearance in the J! Archive in an "M.G." category in 2007. He was the correct response to a $2000 triple-stumper asking for the artist of the aforementioned Dylan poster.
