Alex and his voice must have welcomed this end to the taping day. His pipes were running on fumes.

Nice to see a Dave Chappelle clue hiding in SLIDING INTO YOUR CMs. Good memories of that bit as well as the performer.

For cheezguyty: The last time 8 categories were not completed?

"AFTER" $800: I “sense” you know it’s the remaining sensation about an experience, often a bad one

Karen: What are the aftereffects?
Mat: What is aftertaste?

Both got credit for a correct response while Karen's did not come until the reversal at DD1.

The FJ! category had me ready for another Friday miss after sweeping M-Th. This time I recalled enough from high school civics to get it right.

Nice sweep of the week by Karen to earn a spot at a new taping day. The newbies in the pool will not like hearing there is a 7xer reigning.

Hey hey! I just added a Constitutional amendments deck to my Anki set this week.

Poll request: If they had asked which amendment it was, I could have gotten 16th.

Request seen. I would known it was not 15 or 18 and been left with a coin toss where I don't know which way I would have gone.

I'm sure today's challengers did not like hearing there was a 6x champ. But one would think when faced with that daunting a task a challenger would wager more than $1k out of $4600 on a DD in the first round. Had he answered that DD correctly, a TDD would have prevented a lock where the $1k still guarantees a loss.

But yes, a very solid taping day for the champ. Kudos.

Two female superchamps so far in S36, whatever happened to that outchange dude?

Please let Hammer do better than the contestants in IT'S A HAND! IT'S MICHIGAN!

It went:
$400 - Not played
$800 - TS
$1200 - TS
$1600 - neg + TS
$2000 - TS

Only the $800 for me (as much pres trivia as geography) so I can't laugh too much about it. It was strange seeing the hand graphic displayed with the variously placed red dot to go along with what Alex read as the clue's wording was not displayed. It sucked almost as much as the annoyance of archiving it.

NHO Michigan. Seems obscure for Jeopardy

It seemed like Alex thought if he said "mexican jumping bean" slowly enough, Mat would finish the sentence with him, but no.

WHY DID YOU HAVE TO RUN OUT OF TIME ON THE MICHIGAN CATEGORY?!?!?

Seriously, I have to admit that was kind of tough.

Skunked by the Podcasts category. I said "Buffering Buffy" at $200, no hope on the rest. Hope that unrevealed clue wasn't Welcome to Night Vale...

Got all but $200 in Armchair Expert. Any reason I should know JFK used a rocking chair and not any other kind of chair that moves?

I really struggled in DJ!, missing everything in Book Title (NHO Porthos), Protests, and CMs.

The Rock category was harder than I thought. Whiffed with E Street Band on the DD, NHO Everclear/"Father of Mine" or Roxy Music/"Avalon" to my knowledge.

No guess on FJ! You could've spotted me "income" and I still wouldn't have gotten this.

Lach Trash: Interlochen, Saginaw Bay, Jackson, Grand Rapids. Got the Mexican jumping bean DD, too.

I had Grand Rapids and Saginaw. Jackson, to me, seemed quite over-valued.

Can someone please provide me with screencaps for the Michigan category? I want to poll it and see how everyone did.

Coryat: $33,200 (37R, 0W)
DD: 3/3
FJ:
LT: (Gregory), Mexican jumping bean (DD), Roxy Music

So many leftover clues!

Tons of Lach Trash, but none for me, I was just as stumped as the contestants on Michigan and Professions (and more than them on CMs). I was able to salvage a decent Coryat by running what was uncovered for Criminal Slang and Rock Bands (Roxy Music ❤️) and nail the bottom 3 on Protests.

Instaget FJ, happy with a 4/5 week.

Lots of angry people in Michigan tonight. But then I got only Grand Rapids. Could not pull Saginaw Bay, clammed on Jackson, & no way on Interlochen.
Bryan Ferry should be a Pavlov for Roxy Music.
Easy FJ.
Seriously, writers, you rejected aftereffect for aftertaste? That should never have been negged.

This is pretty common where they put in a TOM to point to the intended response, "sense"="taste" but it doesn't definitively rule out an alternate response. "Bad aftertaste" is certainly more common as a phrase or concept than "bad aftereffect", it's the better answer but still doesn't rule out the alternative.

What a funny coincidence it was a 7th game also. Thanks for the research. Rob may not thank you.

I would have. The one year I did quiz bowl in grad school (which would have been 1993-4), we didn't have anyone on the team who knew the constitutional amendments so I decided to learn them. I had learned the "Free Citizens Vote" mnemonic for 13-14-15 and remembered that 16 was income tax because 16 is close to 15 (for April 15) but I know 15 is something else.

I've forgotten lots of the details but remembered that one.
