Two Michigan clues? Oh writers, you spoil me. I remember the Turtle Creek casino being built because at the time, I had a psychiatrist in Traverse City and we went right by that casino on the way to his office.

Too slow on "Crepes suzette" to run You Burned My Food, and NHO "swedish pancakes" for a 4/5 there.

Middle "O" was a tough word category. NHO those bottom three words. Also "How I Met Your Mother" was the only Sitcom that I recognized.

Genghis Khan kept me from clearing all 12 top boxes, which I don't think I've accomplished in years now.

Ran the Deuteronomy category.

No guess on FJ!

Lach Trash: troth, dutch door. Also got the "barrelhead" DD.

My precall for FJ was the family name Hemings. For the actual FJ, figured the oldest member of the royal family not Elizabeth II or her descendants.

For more about Nicholas II and George V just before World War I -- and the making of The Lost Prince -- see The King, The Kaiser & the Tsar.

Coryat $32,200 (37R, 0W)
DD 1/3
FJ :(

Rough game for me. My worst J! round in quite a while (13R/$6200). No idea on DD1, never heard that expression. Forgot the category on DD2 and went with toilet..

As far as I knew, FJ was "take a stab in the dark at a member of the royal family. They don't even have to be alive, because you can do DNA testing on dead people." I went with Queen Victoria because for a "guess a monarch" clue that's as good a guess as any.

Well, I liked that FJ and it's probably because I got it right. :D

I really think they were shooting for us to think of someone in the royal family who's not a Windsor by blood. I knew Philip was born in Greece, so figured that means he's got less British blood than the other royals who married in, so seemed like he had to be the odds on favorite to be the correct answer.

What helped for me was The Crown S3, where at one point they mention Princess Alice's (mother to Philip) relation to the Romanovs. Probably would have picked the Queen Mother otherwise...
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

I was way off on FJ.

1) Maybe they exhumed Queen Victoria? I know she had descendants ruling countries during WWII?
2) Maybe one of the current royals then? QE2? Probably not?
3) What about Prince Charles?

Wait, Prince Philip is related to the Russians? FML.
Now swimming in the J! pool.

I think Alice was only related through marriage. Philip's paternal grandmother was a Romanov.

Yeah, I had never even heard of those bottom 3 (and I missed the $400 clue, too).

I thought with a name like "DNA Makes News," it was going to be a current events category, not about something from 1993.

Coryat: 43,800
50 R/1 W
DD: 2/3
FJ:
LT: skoal, Extras, mad money, whorl, Dutch door, South Africa

Great comeback by Dennis.

NHO "cash on the barrel," nor "troth" outside of the word "betrothed." The latter was certainly not second-row difficulty.

Judges:. Rationalism for Reason?
I counted myself wrong because it's not referred to as the Age of Rationalism. But I didn't look it up - if you can find examples I'm sure judges would reconsider.
I assumed like others that FJ was looking for someone close by generation as well as descent to the dead Romanovs (though I did wonder if that person had to be living...). My only problem with the clue was that I blanked on Elizabeth's husband's name!... I don't recall seeing his name in the recent coverage...Albert was the best I could do until about :35...Clearly I haven't been watching The Crown...

I wrote down both Liz and Chuck. He seemed more likely because:

1. He seems a little more hip than mom
2. You don’t ask the queen for her DNA
3. Something about DNA needing to come from a male

But wound up going with Elizabeth because a generation back would give a better sample. I just went the wrong way. I knew Philip was descended from Victoria, did not know he was connected to the Czarina.

Maybe if the Russians revive the throne they can have Czar Harry.

I agree it was a bad FJ. But not as bad as Lindsey’s bet.

Since anxiety seems to be a theme for this week's J! contestants, maybe I'd chalk it up to BLAST - Bright Light Auditorium Syndrome of Trebek? Her score if she won is $14001, which is $1 ahead of third place. So...trying to grasp at straws for some type of justification for that bet, maybe she got mixed up and did the math with the third place score instead of the first place score? Maybe she thought first place was already a lock? Usually Alex makes a comment like "We have a runaway" or "It looks like you just missed a runaway" or "All three contestants are still in it" before the FJ! category is revealed.

If she thought she was locked out of first place (ie let's give Dennis $22000 pre-FJ!), her bet was fine. Well, $1 too much, since tying for second place would give her the extra GEICO money as the end-of-DJ! leader.

But mathematically, I agree...that bet is, mathematically speaking, whackadoodle. If she somehow thought that her $3201 was enough to usurp a big bet by Dennis that would lose, it's even worse - she's counting on the exact situation where Dennis gets it wrong, but she and Veronica get it right. Triple gets and triple stumpers happen more than 12.5% each, which is what you would expect if you had independent coinflips, because they're dependent. And counting on three people doing EXACTLY what you need in order to win? Nope.

Not to sound arrogant, but I immediately started jumping up right after Dennis won his game. Nearly halfway into January 2020 (And that's not including near the end of December 2019) has only resulted in 5 different female champions (including 2 future ToC contenders who will be joining with Jason Zuffranieri), and it seemed like it could have been a much longer drought from here.

The combination of the current champs inability to finding a DD, Dennis' clutch DD, and Lindsay's poor FJ! bet resulted in, no pun intended, a "bad cocktail".

I have so many righty snowflake bartending jokes to think about and it can go on until the cows come home, but I'm not going to be a troll just because of the fact that I've been away from here for a long time. I'm not butthurt about this game at all, but the two librarians' bets just didn't make sense at all. Veronica had NO chance of a repeat, and Lindsay just gave up. It's as if she didn't even look at the scores at all, thinking that maybe Dennis had a lock game, but he didn't. Total brain fart right there because she had a chance to extend the drought and beat Dennis. So many "what ifs" to be roaming on about in this game for sure, and questionable ones that could have changed the outcome.

All in all, quite a confusing episode all-around.
Jeopardy! is like History. It's a mixed bag of categories that try to test your knowledge to see if you know or can recall answers that seem familiar to the viewer.
