Was anyone else super glad when "a galaxy far away" was deemed incorrect? It warmed my nerd heart.

I'm wondering if just "far, far away" would have been accepted, or would have been BMSed. Probably a neg, but it was my immediate response, and the clue was typical Jeopardy awkwardness. Any other game show would have just said: "Complete the opening to Star Wars: A long time ago in...."BrigadierSolo13 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 1:06 am Was anyone else super glad when "a galaxy far away" was deemed incorrect? As soon as he said "Galaxy far away", I knew the "Oh, sorry" was coming from a mile away. The cadence just sounds wrong. I would have easily rebounded after the wrong response.

With Slama, Schiraldi, and Coffey in this game, it was a smorgasbord of 80s sports callbacks.MinnesotaMyron wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2020 11:49 am Samantha Slama is a heck of a good name. Sam Slama Jama!

Coryat $25,000 (32R, 1W)
DD 2/3
FJ
Easily my worst game in over a month. Really struggled in FJ, so I guess I would have fit in with the three contestants. 0/3 in Books and Authors which was my first o-fer in a literature category in quite some time. Only got the $800 in USG, and normally I'm good for 80-90% of acronyms. Didn't do as well as I expected in the Soviet Russia category either Tomorrow is another day...

Has anyone besides me been wondering if Dennis Coffey is related to the guitarist of the same name who had a 1971 instrumental hit with "Scorpio"?

"Far, far away" is not "this place. " But the galaxy needs to be identified, in the way the 1977 movie "informed us." I'd say the whole phrase is necessary...talkingaway wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 2:20 amI'm wondering if just "far, far away" would have been accepted, or would have been BMSed. I imagine that was the case. As my wife said, if GWTW was the real answer the key word in the clue would definitely have been "loosely."
I got this FJ right, but wasn't all that confident. I didn't realize that movie was quite so old.

As an unapologetic Alanis Morissette fan, I was rooting for her red-headed sister to take this game.
Dennis’ knack of pulling out victories from the jaws of defeat is fun in its own way. The way he selects categories is not so fun.

In my mind (influenced by TV/movies/books - with no actual knowledge) Maine is not a hustle & bustle, rush-rush state. People there take their time more. It's silly of me to swipe at the state just because Dennis can pick some clues slowly. No offense meant as it's simple ignorance on my part as I throw out many inane comments.

Not offended, just curious. I've never heard anyone say it quite that way before, and I wondered if it was actually a "thing" I'd missed out on. TBH, there's probably some truth to that, but I think it greatly depends on the part of Maine. And I suspect there is a generational aspect, as well. A millennial from Southern Maine probably more closely resembles a Bostonian or New Yorker than they do a boomer from Downeast.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 10:28 amIn my mind (influenced by TV/movies/books - with no actual knowledge) Maine is not a hustle & bustle, rush-rush state. If you drive US1 mid-coast, you will see how right you are. Though part of it is that Maine has the highest median age of any state.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 10:28 am

If you're talking traffic, most of the time it's tourists clogging up the works.alietr wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 11:00 amIf you drive US1 mid-coast, you will see how right you are. Though part of it is that Maine has the highest median age of any state.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 10:28 am

On other forums I've seen younger Don Rickles and Michael Chiklis (The Commish timeframe) for Dennis.

My first thought was you had already posted here referencing those names. My second thought was, "Oh, I should not be mentioning those other forums because JBoard is THE forum."alietr wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 11:55 amOther forums? I am hurt.
