That's a great one, Kirk. I got, as expected, 3 from both my opponents for the video game question, which was a Slumdog Millionaire moment for me. There's no way they could have known that my son has been competing on his High School's e-sports team in Rocket League, which he's been playing for the past 4 years or so. (My wife doesn't mind as it's a totally non-violent game and the cars can even wear hats).

That would be me. I could have sworn I had it, but apparently (based on result) I flipped Clay and Calhoun.

Didn't matter much, as I also missed harmonics and my opponent got all 6.

Going back a couple days to the Korbel question, even if I had been unfamiliar with those ads I'd have still picked it up because that slogan was a running gag in a skit my college comedy troupe wrote.

I had a brief moment of dread after submitting yesterday when I realized I had neglected to RTFQ and omitted "Station" for Q1, but then quickly reassured myself that it would either be accepted (it was) or was likely to be scored low by my opponent (they put it at 0).

I stupidly talked myself out of champagne. I recognized Korbel as a brand name but was not familiar with the slogan and didn't see how "champagne" fit (I guessed "import"). I don't know what it was about seeing champagne as the correct response, but the second that I did I all of a sudden understood the slogan.
Many years ago, my wife and I went to California's wine country. One of our stops was Domaine Chandon, which was established by Moet et Chandon. Our tour guide mentioned that some American sparkling wines have the word "Champagne" on the label--in spite of Champagne's regional designation and the requirements for making the beverage.

Just you, my friend
Well played kimosabe. Thorsten knows I did a 9th grade book report on Daniel Webster and couldn't remember his state.

I thought I was being clever by counting the multiple choice portion as only 2 data points. Still, 5 things is a lot for one question but I suppose the states names were given as TOM for players who couldn't quite pull the names but know their 19th century history.

Sadly, RJ Rouge was collateral damage in the plot to punish me.

I'm behind on the daily game threads but hope your mystery friends do/did well :).

Today I Learned: the game "Cootie" isn't anywhere near as universally known as I thought.

To be fair, I knew exactly which game the question was about, but couldn't remember the title.

I was one of two (non-forfeiting) people in my rundle to get less than half the Friday questions right. We both got lucky: the other person won 3(2)-2(3), while I was up against the player that made it necessary to include the "non-forfeiting" qualification above.

For the third time this season, I talked myself out of a correct answer. After having written Hoboken in (having rejected Jersey City, Newark and Ft Lee as unlikely) I unwisely decided that Paramus was a more likely name for a musicographer. To quote a former pub trivia name for our team, good logic, bad answer.

It took me a good couple hours of thinking about it to remember the name. I got stuck on centipede or millipede for the longest time but knew that wasn't right.

Doh! I didn't recognize Köchel, BWV or Deutsch, but figured Hoboken sounded right

A 3(3)-2(2) win was a nice surprise to start the day. It should have been a tie but my opponent gave me (tsk, tsk) 2 for Cootie instead of the 1 where it went on Mitford. He got the 0 I gave Cootie and 2 for Berlin as I put 1s on NJ & Fleabag since he has ties to PA and a .698 TV. The properly placed 0 (I'm at .822) I received was on the TV show.

Cootie does not sound/look familiar to me at all!

For the Haydn question I considered Hoboken, but that seemed likely to be a Native American name, and I was looking for something that sounded German. I ended up going with New Brunswick, although I didn't know whether that was in northern NJ or not.

I went with Bayonne.

Yeah, that makes me feel really old. I would have figured 75% would get that.

4(4) tie with jeff6286. We got the same four correct, both missing Mitford (no chance on that one for me) and Hoboken (I put Hackensack).

Glad I watched Fleabag because there'd be no way I'd get it otherwise. Loved that show.

It seems that the commish was generous with the Japanese woodblock question. I just guessed Mt. Fuji because it is ubiquitous in Japan and got credit. The message board indicates that anything wave related and even just a guess of "mountain" were also credited. The generous ruling gave me a 3 pointer and an undeserved win. Somehow I am in 5th in the rundle because of the 20th place strength of schedule.

I picked Hoboken as possibly Germanic/Austrian type name. Lucky I didn't think of Berlin(New Jersey), but the first question (Irving Berlin) would have helped me decide "he wouldn't do that, would he?".

I also guessed Mt Fuji...which is I guess correct as it is in the background and part of at least an alternate title of the work. I did lose again to the 12 footer because I gave him 3 and he gave me 2 and he won by a point.

This is my first season in C, and my plan was to just not get relegated. Well after day 13, I'm in second. I am having my best season in Q% so far as questions in a lot of my typically weaker categories have been things I've known (ahem, science were I was 0.400 or so coming into this season and I'm 7/8 so far). Hoping it holds out but man am I not a B player....

"36 Views of Mount Fuji" is the name of series it's a part of.

I cost myself a win by overdefending cootie. I should (it turns out) have made Mitford my other 2-pointer, especially since I could easily imagine a lot of "Milfords". I placed my biggest hopes though on Hoboken, where being from NYC gave me a huge advantage, I thought. Not huge enough.

I wonder what the % correct on Irving Berlin was for Americans. Pretty high, I'd expect.

ETA: I wrote "wave" based on the painting's freerice.com name. I'll keep my eyes open for a mountain next time.

I grossly overthought the question and went with Guttenberg, which is actual town in Jersey, because I was looking for someplace with a German name. Now I run the risk that George R.R. Martin, who grew up in Bayonne, will beat me about the head and ears with a hardcover copy of Song of Ice and Fire.

Edited to add: On Weather.com, I ran across a story about the world's smallest desert (it's in Canada), and what did I see underneath the photo? "At just about one square mile in area, the Carcross Desert is actually smaller than the "Mile Square City" of Hoboken, New Jersey."

I'm doing badly enough in B league without making it worse by committing a rare sin (for me anyway) of not reading a question carefully enough. I answered "Star Trek" instead of "Khan" and "Spock". It cost me a win, although fortunately I got a tie, leaving me still on the wrong side of relegation (although arguably for me it is the right side of relegation as I probably belong in the C league anyway).
