DD2 in SCIENCE: It’s the point in the orbit of the Moon when it is farthest from the Earth

Margaret was negged for "apex" when Alex wanted apogee and decision was reversed at DD3 for a huge unknown score swing from clue 11 to clue 25.

The miss I saw coming instantly was the party to go with Democratic-Republicans as it was only a matter of which contestant was going to say Whigs. Mike took the bait to set up Paul for the rebound.

The FJ! category had me try three precalls for fun. Warhol and Rockwell were wrong while my third shot turned out to be a direct hit. I do not consider myself great at foreign word translation as I have little background other than 2 years of high school French. "Savior" in Spanish I can handle for a no doubt lock solve.

Margaret missed her chance to make Paul pay for not trying for the lead at DD3 as 8000+3000 still left him shy of Margaret with 12000. Mike left 4000 on the table with his DD1 wager of 5000+1000. Yes, I get it that at clue 30 you do not want to scratch though a deficit of of 3600 and 2400 is by no means huge with a round to go.

Last Friday was the last time a player won from the champ's spot. I think I hear that calliope music.

I speak reasonably good Spanish and know the name of one Spanish painter who fits the clue, so I had it before I had read all the words in the clue.

I initially thought that Dali was born earlier and died earlier, but he was the only one I could think of, so I went with him. 2/3.

OK, judges: granting that "fallacious" was the desired response, I came up with "specious". Close enough?

I'm having trouble making 'apex' fit that DD clue, which, despite Alex's comments during the reversal, seemed pretty clear to me. But I'm not an astronomer.

...whereas I thought that neg was so bad and out of left field that I did a double take.

Then again, I thought this was a slam dunk, guaranteed triple get, automatic-win-for-the-leader FJ, so what do I know.

I'd say so. I actually said "fallicious," which is related, but not exactly the same judges?

Coryat $28,000 (33R, 0W)
DD 3/3
FJ

Had a brutal time in the J! round, only 15/30. Lots of potpourri where my brain was too slow. I did only get an hour or two of sleep last night, so that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. Been a long time since I failed to get 35 right. Thankfully, 4/4 on the bonus clues.

Chalk me up as one of the "they shouldn't have accepted apex" crowd.

I entered this thread to ask the same thing.

I think it would have been accepted. Especially with the clue mentioning faulty reasoning

Thank you for asking this before I got here. I also said specious and (re-seeing the wording of the clue below) I can't see anything wrong with our answer. Credit yourself with an extra $2K.

I had zero LT in the first round but managed to come alive in DJ and get apogee (OK, not really LT) in DD2, plus Parson Weems, anther, a god, Farad, and the Coneheads.

Saw AT's new interview today on the subject of his illness & treatment. I never wish that kind of problem on anyone, and it may be particularly difficult for someone relatively advanced in years. So God bless Alex for how he's not only hanging in medically but showing the wherewithal to deal with the horrendous emotional side effects of serious illness as well.

+1 apex was wrong! Take it back!!

Took me 28 seconds to get Dalí so now I’m giving myself 28 lashes

The first round DD wager was so so disappointing! Le grand sigh

LT Parson Weems. Jk, never heard of the guy

Saddest miss of the day on my score card: Faraday when they wanted the unit, Farad

Instead of venting about the Tony play title category that was saved for last and mostly unseen, I’m just going to breathe

I don't know why I thought Washington Irving was responsible for the cherry tree myth.

All time easy FJ.

+1 Washington Irving

Final took me 28 seconds and that worries me. Sometimes I get stuck in a panic driven feedback loop on FJ and nothing makes sense

I suppose Golf hasn’t posted due to having to go buy a new TV after shooting it after seeing Paul’s DD bet followed by going for the $400 clue. This after a time warning and a lengthy ramble by Alex explaining the apex reversal.

My list of 20th century artists I can name isn’t very long, but luckily Dali is on that list.
