Re: Thursday, March 26, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Young people. Adam did not know what went with Ronald Reagan in THE PRESIDENTIAL SWEET for DD1.
Adam converted DD2 for 6400+4000 and if he bet it all he would have trailed still for the FJ! round, at 12800 to 13000.
Canadian Evan got burned on DD3 wanting bad guys from early in U.S. history.
Susan played no DDs and had the lead for the FJ! round. Her FJ! wager was 5001 for a possible 18001 while Adam had a chance at 20800 if he was correct.
I'll put the FJ! clue at 25% instead of the 0% the players left it as this specific clue:
#2726, aired 1996-06-10 WORLD GEOGRAPHY $500: Guatemala & this neighbor border Mexico on the southeast
was one I studied multiple times as it was in the year of the first time I passed the J! test. Geography is no strength for me though I have made learning those two Mexican border countries come in handy multiple times over the years since.
Any kind of 3-part FJ! clue is often trouble with a lot to write and think through in a short time. For the weekly poll I'll have each country separated and I would expect Mexico will have the highest percentage of the three.
With the players dropping to Panama and even Ecuador they were obviously in trouble on that one.

Joking poll request - what was worse in FJ, the wagers or the answers? Admittedly, Panama and Ecuador are both better than leaving it blank. But still..... And Evan didn’t even try to win the game.
In retrospect, I’m pleased that all three contestants were able to write three countries in time.
Mark, I’m going with over 25% here but no more than 40%.

Yeah, I put U.S., Mexico, and Guatemala. TIL where the Yucatan Peninsula is. (I was obviously thinking of Baja California.)

Re: Thursday, March 26, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Looks like Evan assumed Susan would make the normal cover wager, which would have dropped her to 5199, and Evan left himself with 5201. That part of it makes sense - he was just thwarted by a lower-than-expected wager from Susan.

My attempt on the comment was my getting it right put the success rate at 25% after four responses. For the weekly poll I will call your 40% and raise you 7% to 47% since if I can get it right it can't be that hard.Golf wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 11:45 am Joking poll request - what was worse in FJ, the wagers or the answers? I had Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras. At least the one I got wrong borders the Peninsula.
Found Adam to be an enjoyable champ, but he doomed himself on that Reagan clue.

...and here I thought Belize was the non-Mexico gimme that everyone would get. Hm.
Instaget FJ. What is it with the wagers from 1st this week?

You have to factor Adam’s wager into the thought process as well.

Coryat: $36,800 (47R, 1W)
DD: 3/3
FJ:
instaget FJ, having travelled a decent bit in that part of the world. I was stunned at some of the answers, tbh.
Also negged with San Fernando Valley.
Had MTA for Police Squad $800 — judges?
While I was happy for Susan, selfishly, I don’t want to see her go on any kind of run with how slow she plays.

I thought the Italian funeral flowers clue was very unfortunate timing.

Nope. The MTA runs the buses and subway. They don't have a police unit (which is basically why Adam was negged. If he had just said the Transit Police, which is part of the NYPD, he'd have been fine.).

Coryat $31600 (42R, 1W)
DD 3/3
FJ
My stats are disappointed that 5 geography+history clues were unplayed. I hereby promise to TPTB that if I should be so fortunate as to get The Call™, I will play fast enough to help get all 60 clues in...
I found FJ easy peasy. Geography is a wheelhouse category for me, plus I've made it a point to commit a map of Central America to visual memory, because the writers seem to like to ask about what countries border what down there.

I'll pick up the slack for the young people and claim a get here. I have a kids book somewhere on the presidents and I'm pretty sure one of the illustrated photos shows Reagan eating from a jar of jellybeans. Also correct on FJ here if we're working on some sort of early exit poll.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 11:29 am Young people. Trebek reading song lyrics is peak Trebek. IMO, tonight's Lizzo reading is up there with the Desiigner "Panda" clue from a few years ago for the absolute funniest.

I went 2/3 on FJ. I had Honduras instead of Guatemala.

Wheelhouse category.. and I lived in Belize. Instaget, and I was surprised that the contestants were so weak in geography.

Considering geography is probably my worst topic next to pop culture, I was really happy to get two out of three in FJ. Another Honduras for Guatemala.Bamaman wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 8:29 pmAdam bet it all yesterday in a similar situation.Golf wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 7:43 pmYou have to factor Adam’s wager into the thought process as well.
