Re: Friday, March 27, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
This game will be very frustrating for those who have taken & passed the test many times without an audition or THE CALL in wishing this was their day to be on stage.
Susan won the J! round, but could not maintain her edge through the DJ! round.
Matt was sitting pretty in second place for a TS FJ! clue. Khalilah bet the 4401 to cover Matt's possible 11200. Fine. If she missed, which she did, then that left her with 2399. With Susan's best being 2400, Matt was in position to win today with a different wager. Nope, he went for the farm.
Yesterday I was able to get the FJ! clue success rate after four responses up to 25% while today I keep it at 0% as I matched Susan and Matt. My thinking was FDR was too early and went with Ike for serving two terms. I get that TV was around in the 1940s, but not everything was necessarily televised going back to that decade.
It seems like a toss the coin clue with congrats to those who went the right way while sucks to have gone the wrong way.
Today's players may want to avoid social media.

In early with popcorn!
Would love to know where the total Coryat ranks all time.

Yes, fixed. Thank you. In my mind I was thinking Susan got it since she was the elder statesperson of the panel.

This game from earlier this year was not pretty: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=6540
Warning: You will be reminded of those J! round categories.

This game is a draw for the Intermediate Form of Shore's Conjecture. The second-place player bet "big." --Bob

The veni vidi vici debacle was just painful. That was on an audition test I took a few years back too.

Oh come on, how can you not appreciate Khalilah muttering "This is turning into a disaster" ?! She's adorable, we loved her.

I knew that QEII was the first televised coronation in 53, so I figured we were probably doing SotU's a bit before that, so I went with Truman.

I am now a Khalilah fangirl. Sometimes people forget that this is a game and can be fun even whilst being competitive. I can only imagine how much editing they tried to do with her energy. (I speak from experience, having had a sotto voce comment cut out while the laughter remained.)
Question about the GNC clue: I thought they *were* only asking for what the N meant?

IMO, the fact that Susan+Matt precisely equaled Khalilah made for a very precarious betting position. You couldn't cover both.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Fri Mar 27, 2020 11:14 am This game will be very frustrating for those who have taken & passed the test many times without an audition or THE CALL in wishing this was their day to be on stage.

Trump decided to sign the stimulus bill during the interviews so I had to play the rest from the archive. Good grief.
My coin landed the right way today. Hooray for me.

No kidding. Rough game, and I went with Ike. Didn’t see a TOM, either.

The chain is actually called "General Nutrition Center" while Matt said "Nutritional." I was surprised they didn't change his score.

Ran Latin Phrases.
Two weirdly symmetrical negs for me: was one letter too far on the Millennial generation, and one grade too early on "Tales of..."
Precalled Lansing in Capitals and was stunned at the two negs. Then I derped the DD by somehow thinking California but still not pulling the trigger because "Sacrament" flew right over my head.
I had multiple precalls in "General" Economy, of which all except Dollar General came up.
Television? Um... I think I saw this on TV Tropes once and was somehow able to remember that it was Truman.
Lach Trash: DNA, Carnegie, Atchison Topeka Santa Fe, veni vidi vici, Jammes Joyce

Re: Friday, March 27, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Coryat $40,600 (48R, 1W)
DD 3/3
FJ
LT $10,400 = 4th podium victory
If I didn't know better, I'd think some of the contestants were coached to call clues like this: "Dear esteemed Mr. Alex Trebek sir, it would give me great pleasure if you would so kindly take it upon yourself to reveal and read the $800 clue in the category entitled State Capitals."
Congrats to Khalilah on the miracle win and making it to a second taping day!
