I think Kayla's score is enough for a Wild Card spot.

HEALTH & MEDICINE $800: From a Greek word for “people” it describes a disease that affects many people at one time

Nathaniel had "pandemic" and Alex said, "We'll accept that" to indicate that may not have been first choice on his sheet.

HEALTH & MEDICINE $2000 had the head-scratching valuation of the day with wanting the Type 2 type of this

For the Florida vs. Florida St. contest it was no contest with Kayla the Gator easily besting Sophie the Seminole. Another level above was Nathaniel representing the Ivy League.

If people thought that yesterday's FJ! clue was too easy then they will have more to say about today's as that one was as quick as solve as Alex described in watching the students write immediately.

Odd FJ wager from Kayla. Did she make a math error there?

We'll find out on Thursday or Friday unless she makes an online comment earlier. There are many individual targets and goals for wildcard scores. She may have felt 16500 was the spot to be above?

It's in the archive: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=6597

Better numbers today although 10W is annoying for archiving purposes.

Judges: Salem okay by itself? It's probably the most famous, but there's also several others, notably Oregon's capital.

I haven’t checked that blog to see if it was supposed to be easy but I certainly thought it was. I was with the players in having it written down before Alex finished reading the answer. I think the Yale guy didn’t include the state, so that wasn’t a problem.

I guess epidemic was what they were going for. I said pandemic at home, but probably would have said epidemic a couple months ago.

Nathaniel had a solid game, but he is a little timid in DD wagering.

I kept waiting for them to give Sophie her money back for McDonald's Chicken Tenders. They do exist. However, when I researched it afterwards, the official menu name is apparently "Crispy Tenders", not "Chicken Tenders" (and they do come in a 4 piece). Pretty nasty double neg for a $200 clue.

EDIT: For that matter, I've purchased many, many Munchkins in my lifetime for my son and his Boy Scout Troop, and I've never seen "Donut Hole" actually on the menu. So either it's alluded or not, but the whole category felt inconsistent to me.

For some reason I found the Menu category extremely difficult:

* Most humiliatingly, I fell for the nugget/McNugget trap.
* Had no idea that Red Lobster serves fish & chips, which I always associated more with more "fast food" seafood like Long John Silver's. Also I don't think I've even set foot in a Red Lobster since grade school.
* There are no Dunkins anywhere near me so I was unaware that they serve donut holes.
* Can't say I've heard of that Denny's item either. I also haven't eaten at a Denny's in forever, so I have clue zero as to the names of their menu items.

Very strange DJ! round for me. I skunked Film Characters, but ran Cliches and Health & Medicine. "Mercenary" is one of those words I can never grasp the definition of, so it had me thinking far more serious films and nowhere near Deadpool. And I absolutely loathe Frozen so I blocked out Anna's name on purpose.

I said "diabeetus" on Health & Medicine for $2,000. Judges?

Absolutely not even a WAG on FJ! My only thought was "Absolutely couldn't be Salem, it was way too late for that."

Lach Trash: sword, ridiculous, "run it up the flagpole". I also got both of the DDs in DJ!

I don’t think I’ve been to a Dunkin’ more than once in my life but holes just seemed to make sense. I haven’t been to Denny’s much either but I have seen their commercials enough to know about Grand Slam breakfast.

I haven't been to a Dunkin' in over a decade when the few that were still near me closed. McD's having donut sticks blocked the path to donut holes in my brain.

And I don't think I've seen a single Denny's ad since the nannerpuss.

Damn, that Health & Medicine category was hitting a bit too close to home. :?
:D :D :D on DDs
They didn't require the state for FJ? So did the other contestants actually spell out Massachusetts or did they use the postal abbreviation as I would've done? :?:
Even bigger instaget on FJ than yesterday :

I assume Alex was looking for epidemic.

Spotting all three names in FJ seemed like overkill.

Whenever there was a bad choice to be made, Sophie seemed to make it.

And that's how she ended up at Florida State! :D
