A family's last name in the title of an adventure novel? Hmm, now what could that be?

Re: Tuesday, May 19, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Tiffany told a Packers story and came in third. Aw, that just breaks my heart.
The Mystery House down in San Jose was in the news locally recently with staff cuts. The tourist trap is no big deal under normal circumstances and certainly unnecessary for a visit in 2020.
Off the FJ! category I made three precalls: Treasure Island, Robinson Crusoe and Verne
I had the right idea as two were in the mix for what Alex and the players had. Considering my head start it should not have taken me more than 10 seconds to figure out what the clue was saying. That's okay as that is what think is for.
I locked in the correct response with plenty of time to spare and thank goodness since a miss would have nagged at me. After all, I've paid my dues between watching the TV series and using a "B" ticket to visit the Disneyland attraction. Throw in being a fan of (the original) Lost in Space and I better get it.
0/3 by the players does not surprise me as the dotted path is a little muddled on that one.
Ben is 2/6 on big clues so he must be doing something right to manage two wins. Maybe it's his shirt & tie combinations?

It is in: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=6653
12 TS including the last four clues after DD3's miss.
The 4th podium win is possible if you pick enough trash to be at 10200 or above.

I precalled SFR, Treasure Island and Tom Sawyer/Huck Finn, and I have to state that Disneyland's conversion of The SFR Treehouse to Tarzan theming still bugs me.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Tue May 19, 2020 11:41 am Off the FJ! category I made three precalls: Treasure Island, Robinson Crusoe and Verne.

I also got snagged on "Batgirl" and couldn't un-snag, even with "not a girl" staring me in the face.
"Ahoy" -> "navy bean" was another head-slapping miss for me.
0/5 in The Writer's Creation. I should have known $200 and $400 but blanked on them. And out of all the details I've finally managed to shove into my brain regarding Lord of the Flies, you'd think the author's name would have been one of them. Oops.
Ran "A" Before "E".
All but "Sauropod" in Dinosaurs. Tried attacking it from the "lizard" angle and forgot what "lizard" was in Latin (sure, not like it's in the category name or anything), which frazzled me enough to forget the pod=foot connection and try reverse-engineering it from there. I hate misses like that.
NHO that song in Great American Songbook for $400, and couldn't think of a way to dance that rhymed with "seek".
The Lord Deals with Thee DD was a huuuuuuuuuuuge negbait for Abraham. Huge huge HUGE negbait.
I had no idea what to even put down as a WAG. Can't say I've heard of Swiss Family Robinson before.

Alex said something to the effect that if you didn't come up with the 1719 novel first, you were going to struggle on FJ. However, I didn't read the 1719 portion of the clue until after I had gotten SFR based on the pastor, wife, and four sons.

Coryat $37,200 (45R, 1W)
DD 3/3
FJ
$7400 LT, not enough for the fourth-podium victory.

Me too, basically “name an adventure novel about a family”. I had no idea about the connection to Robinson Crusoe, and probably would have thought It was later than 1719.cinemaniax7 wrote: ↑Tue May 19, 2020 7:55 pm Alex said something to the effect that if you didn't come up with the 1719 novel first, you were going to struggle on FJ. I wonder if this being a TS reflects that the book is not as well known as it once was?

A bit of clue anti-synergy, as it was announced today that Ruby Rose won't be returning for season 2 of Batwoman.
Instaget FJ.

on DDs. Easy money in the Biblical category for the taking.
FJ was a WAG for me as I wasn't sure what they wanted, but nothing else fit.

For me also. By coincidence, I have seen the "1719" reference regarding Robinson Crusoe in a J! contest quiz from years ago. Amazing how much stuff I've seen on those things over the years that stuck with me.mas3cf wrote: ↑Tue May 19, 2020 8:12 pm Coryat $37,200 (45R, 1W)

I thought I had a 4th-podium win for sure after seeing my results in the first round: LT on Batwoman, navy beans, William Golding, Rotterdam, and trough-furlough. Then got blanked until the last clue about Cain.
Congrats to Ben on a nice, solid second win. And I'm with the earlier boardie who was heartbroken (NOT) when our contestant-cum-Packers-fan didn't win this game. Those X@#%* GB boys have inflicted way too many dings on my Cowboys over the decades. Tiffany also didn't take my advice of wagering really small in FJ, in case of misses by both her and Jackie. If she had taken my advice she would have gone home with the extra thou for second place. Oh well, maybe her Packers stock will increase in value.

Me too! I end up fuming about how it's just crass commercialism to tie the attraction in to one of their movies... and then I remember that the earlier attraction was doing that as well. Sigh. It seems different somehow, doesn't it? We're old, my friend.squarekara wrote: ↑Tue May 19, 2020 5:18 pmI precalled SFR, Treasure Island and Tom Sawyer/Huck Finn, and I have to state that Disneyland's conversion of The SFR Treehouse to Tarzan theming still bugs me.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Tue May 19, 2020 11:41 am Off the FJ! category I made three precalls: Treasure Island, Robinson Crusoe and Verne.

Not so much with "replenish the earth." Edit: also "and his sons"; God told Adam and Abraham to be fruitful and multiply before they had had any kids.TenPoundHammer wrote: ↑Tue May 19, 2020 7:32 pm The Lord Deals with Thee DD was a huuuuuuuuuuuge negbait for Abraham. Huge huge HUGE negbait.

Re: Tuesday, May 19, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Couple of fumbles on the Jeopardy! 101 conch-Lord of the Flies-Golding connection. Ben rang in and couldn't come up with it. Jackie picked up the rebound but forgot the category and went with title rather than author.
I'll be checking the poll box that says "I knew which capital overlooks the Vltava river because of that tone poem by Bedřich Smetana". Ok, that probably won't be in the poll. But that DD might make a good choice.
Pet Peeve alert! I HATE HATE HATE it when people attempt King James/Shakespearean English and think they can just throw in a Thee or a Thou and maybe stick an -eth on the end of a verb here or there. They always sound like idiots. THE LORD DEALS WITH THEE, BIBLICALLY is not grammatically correct. The Lord DEALETH. And unless we're talking about only one person, he dealeth with YOU not THEE. But hey, at least they got the case of the second person singular pronoun correct for when it's the object of a preposition.
Bad grammar notwithstanding, I ran that category, of course. Also ran GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK. The contestants had a bit of trouble with both. I loved their "No way am I taking a guess" look when asked to name what birds, bees, and even educated fleas do.
FJ took ten seconds while I churned, for some reason, through Elmer Gantry and The Scarlet Letter before focusing on the category and veering toward Robert Louis Stevenson and Walter Scott and finally the right response. I'd forgotten the dad was a pastor. I can't now recall whether I thought of the correct response first and then connected it to Robinson Crusoe or vice versa. That might make an interesting couple of poll questions, even if I won't be able to check either box.

Isn't that more Jeopardy curse territory? I mean, no one died, but it feels in that same vein.
Swiss Family Robinson is apparently a massive knowledge gap for me. After the fact I remembered the treehouse and I think I saw...five minutes? of the film.
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.
Latest movies (1-10): Everything Everywhere All at Once (10), Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken (6), Black Sunday /1960/ (6), Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (7)

37R. 2/4 on big clues. Missed Prague and "At Last." Sanctions has a typo in the archive. I mispronounced Bill Nighy and Aeneid.
I recently came across Thomas Harris and The Breakers while studying but I missed them anyway. I'll get them next time.
1/5 on Great American Songbook. Those old songs just don't stick in my head. I think they only have 50-100 songs they consider classics but I can never pin them down.
Halfway joking, but also half serious - poll request on whether or not cheese and geese rhyme. I don't think they rhyme and I think there should be a poll - others may disagree.

I had a dream that I was asleep and then I woke up and Jeopardy! was on.
