WAKA broke in for a President Trump speech just after the players were introduced. The station cut away while he was still speaking and got back to J! just as the chats were finished.

It was enough to see all the DDs thanks to the first one being found late.

Meggie won the J! round 10400 to 5400 though could have led Ben by more as she left $3400 on the table with her DD1 get.

Ben won the more important DJ! round to set himself up for the win on a FJ! clue that was easy to predict just off the category.

J! once had 18th CENTURY NOVELS as a full category I was surprised today's work was not in the mix:

#4350, aired 2003-06-27 18th CENTURY NOVELS $400: Not only was Friday saved from death by the hero in this novel, so was his father
#4350, aired 2003-06-27 18th CENTURY NOVELS $800: This Voltaire title character is shipwrecked off Lisbon & swims to shore just in time to experience the 1755 earthquake
#4350, aired 2003-06-27 18th CENTURY NOVELS $1200: Oliver Goldsmith described the vicar of this place as "a priest, an husbandman, and the father of a family"
#4350, aired 2003-06-27 18th CENTURY NOVELS $1600: This foundling marries Sophia Western at the end of a 1749 Henry Fielding novel
#4350, aired 2003-06-27 18th CENTURY NOVELS $2000: This French philosopher's 1762 novel "Emile" said that education should emphasize expression, not repression
Final Jeopardy! Round clues (1 result returned)
#4535, aired 2004-04-30 18th CENTURY BRITISH NOVELS: This title person asks a pile of money, "What art thou good for?... one of those knives is worth all this heap"

Meggie had chances to find DD3 and that could (more likely would, based on her betting nerve and the ease of the clue) have turned the match in her favor.

Ben is definitely a worthy addition to the ToC field and he is no Bronze.

Five new regular play games next week.

For archiving today's game I will wait to do it until I get the next airing and the opening segment I missed instead of doing 15 placeholder spots just to get to it now. If anyone wants the results there are of course several easy to find sites for the information.

I didn’t get it off the year but the rest of the clue made it a quick get.

Is this the Jeopardy debut for the KKK? Not the best time given current events (if there is a good time) to mention them.

Not even close. At least a couple dozen as KKK and Ku Klux Klan.

For FJ!, it wasn't the 1726 that helped me...it was the "in four parts" that got me to Gulliver's Travels. I think I looked it up from last month's FJ! about the Swiss Family Robinson being lead by a pastor, because Gulliver was an incorrect response. I saw it, recognized it as a blind spot, and looked it up. Or maybe it was the fact that I watched a play based on Treasure Island last month, and somehow got there by stream of consciousness, because those two novels seem like two I'd mix up because I've never been much into adventure novels. (That and The Jungle Book might go into that pile, but I did get the Baloo clue right tonight...probably because I only know the bare necessities of the novel.)

A quick scan of the wiki article had me note that it was in four parts, so that was enough to take me to the win.

I precalled the JUST DESERTS category after the first round. Just looking at JUST DESSERTS, I thought, "They must have done a JUST DESERTS category". Yup, they have - and they've paired them before. They even had one game where they had JOUST DESSERTS. But poor Will - I knew there would be a groan after Sahara. The bright lights of J! strike at the oddest times, even though the contestants seemed loose.

Do they accept "the Scottish play" for "Macbeth"? What if they get an actor on the show?

I'd NHO flan until the episode of Friends (probably The One Where Monica Has a Birthday Flan), but ever since that episode, I seem to be inundated with flan references. It's quite yummy.

Why when I hear "female hormone" does my brain decide to be a geek and make me think "progesterone"? At least it's way longer than 8 letters, so I clammed...

Of Will's 3 Wrong responses, two of them were bad guesses (-2600) that took him out of a position where he would have been very close to Meggie in the FJ wagering equation.

Meggie overwagered by 599 on her FJ bet.

All but "eclair" in Desserts.

Goose egg in Actors & Actresses. Didn't recognize a single thing.

My brain just completely shut off in DJ! I should have gotten all but $2,000 in Publishers but I just kept blanking.

Bit on the MASSIVELY ENORMOUS "android" negbait to end up 4/5 in Words Coined in the 1920s.

No guess on FJ! My brain just wasn't making any connections at all, partially because I thought Gulliver's Travels was waaaaaaaay older.

I have a background in amateur theater. During my orientation in the Green Room, someone (not me) asked Maggie whether "the Scottish play" would be accepted for "Macbeth." She laughed and said that Alex would probably say "be more specific." The correct response to my own FJ turned out to be "Lady Macbeth." Want to bet that if I'd gotten cute and written "who is the Lady in the Scottish Play?" I would have gotten a laugh and a loss?

I liked that going into FJ, all six possible orders of finish could still happen.

I know what logrolling is, but I think the Pat Sajak namedrop had me picturing the "spinning piece of floating wood" being a flat circle. You know, like a certain wheel that Pat's been around since six years before i was even born.

It's weird how subtle things like that can sometimes nudge my brain AWAY from the correct response instead of toward it.

I expect Alex would accept it (not for the character or Lady Macbeth), but I hope he'd scoff at the silly superstition - which in any case, only applies in the theater...not in a TV studio.
Maybe he wouldn't scoff...in this game he used the euphemism himself...Oh, Alex!

Arthur Chu responded with "What is the Scottish Play or Macbeth? It's bad luck for me to say it" in his 11th game (which he won, though he did lose the following one). He didn't pause at all before adding the "or Macbeth" so we don't know how Alex might have responded. So it just came off as a failed attempt at a joke.

Great finish to this tournament. All 3 were very entertaining to watch (I rooted for Meggie.).

My dad had FJ! Just when the music started playing.
It's the end of the journey that counts.
