From thejeopardyfan:
“What is India?” should also be accepted, as a book with the same title also deals with US-India relations).

First Barry/Berry, and now this... :x Tyler should be invited back in the future.
(By the way, India was my response as well)

Did U.S.-India relations start in 1833?

Good point. But why do the judges seem much pickier now?

"Beginning in 1833" does not necessarily mean that relations had to start in 1833; that could be read to mean that the scope of the book started then.

Andy seemed to have some confusion (based on the comments). It seems that he thought "India" was the expected response at first? And then the first commenter said (paraphrasing) "They should have accepted Thailand"?

I don't understand the logic. If the relations didn't start in 1833 there is no reason for the scope of the book to start in 1833.

1833 rules out India because there was no sovereign India to have relations with in 1833.

Yes, because my Internet searching this morning brought up the India book. Seeing it written by a high-ranking Clinton staffer in the Commerce Department, it seemed legitimate enough to me.

Already a second major screw-up in just 7 episodes into the season. Mike Richards, you're making yourself look bad!

I concur with the others saying that Tyler should be invited back in the future. This FJ clue is way too obscure, and is by far the worst one I've seen in a long time. Dana should've lost today.

There should be no controversy with respect to Tyler, but there should be a controversy with regard to Reshima. Are abbreviations no longer being accepted?

Tyler found DD3 at clue 23 with a category and two $2000 clues remaining.

Dana: 23600
Tyler: 11200
Reshima: 3600

What to do? What to do? Tyler lost $4000 to have Dana in place for a lock. Tyler managed to do enough in the last 7 clues to prevent the runaway.

The FJ! category had me try one precall of XYZ Affair.

The FJ! clue had me write the right country off instinct when seeing the animal name. It was a guess and by no means was I confident. Between MTV's competition shows and CBS's The Amazing Race I was pretty sure I was there was a connection to the animals there. During think time I also considered Tyler's "incorrect" guess (definitely seen players there as well) while I did not think about switching due to the reasons coming up for the judges' decision.

Reshima loses even if she completes her response. Tyler could have won if his response was accepted and the pros/cons of that will garner a lot of discussion.

Nice title defense by Dana to increase her Coryat on Day 2.

If we accept that Tyler "would have won" or "should have won" then we are saying that clues cannot be pinned and that it's okay to ignore the text of the clue itself.

And that a screw-up would not have changed the outcome does not make bad rulings any less wrong, it only makes them less consequential.

Theresa's Final response in show #5029.
Dennis's Final response in show #8141.
Innumerable times postal abbreviations have been accepted for states.

That is a good question. What history has "th" for "Thailand" have, pre- internet codes? I think internet codes deserve as much respect as state postal codes, but has the show given it in the past? If not, must they formally announce such a new policy?

I have an idea regarding question marks in FJ responses. Optional, but maybe they could be a way to indicate officially that one's answer is complete, so that, for instance, "Th" means Thailand, definitely, and is not the beginning of Thuringia.

As for today's FJ, I like it. Elephants seem to go with a number of south Asian states, but who has such a long history of sovereignty? It's rough, I'll grant, on someone who read the wrong "Eagle and the Elephant" book.
I'm smart and I want respect.

It's done: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=6827

Reshima scribbled right at the end of the 30 seconds and told Alex, "I started to write Thailand".

57 R (Don't need to say which one I missed.)
DD: 3/3
FJ:
LT: Starch, Burned at the Stake, Vandals, (Robert Fulton), Henry Miller, Bonnaroo

Apparently, none of the contestants saw the first episode of Neil DeGrasse Tyson's Cosmos. The episode centered on Giordano Bruno and also showed a full scene of him getting burned at the stake.

Elephant lead me straight to Thailand as its highest honor is "Order of the White Elephant", not to be confused with Denmark's highest honor, "Order of the Elephant".
