Re: Friday, October 2, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
LSV will get a chuckle out of the Dakota/Elle clue after they appeared in a Q earlier this week on The Weakest Link.
The striking car place had me expecting the neg for the wrong company.
When you don't want to be the best on the buzzer? Wheel chair for the iron horse.
The FJ! category had me try of mixture of precalls with: Wright, Fuller, column names, keystone and the Vietnam Memorial
The FJ! clue had my time machine a little off kilter in interpreting the clue and I wrote the Tower of London. About halfway through think music I had the aha moment to make the more logical switch which was quick with an ink pen. Even with the contestant writing pen there would have been time to do the second instinct save.
DD3 was found on clue 30 and Phillip led 17200 to 9400 to 6700. $1000 might be pretty and conservative while going up to 18200 did nothing to put Phillip in a better position. Even with stage conditions it's not that hard to figure out a better wager.
3/3 on FJ! clues for the contestants to end the week and the success pattern needed it for the week to up the solve percentage.

How on Earth is Admiralty Island a TS? Spotted 57 degrees North latitude and part of a state, what the hell else could it possibly be but Alaska?
Another straightforward FJ, giving me 5/5 for the week

Thanks for this. Got preempted because of Trump/COVID.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Fri Oct 02, 2020 3:21 pm Three weeks complete: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=6835
I said The Godfather for the Brando/Oscar clue, and ruled myself wrong because of the category without needing to bring up Sacheen Littlefeather. A more recent clue would probably be sure to clarify "(the one he accepted)."
Oh, what has science wrought? I sought only to turn a man into a metal-encased juggernaut of destruction powered by the unknown properties of a mysterious living crystal. How could this have all gone wrong?

Ran Beastly Reviews and After Math.
0/5 in Latitude.
-2/5 in Actor. Said Nicholson and JTT on the first two, no idea on the other three.
Instaget FJ!

Coryat $38600 (48R, 2W)
DD 3/3
FJ
Had Moody's instead of S&P, not sure how I would have gotten it without flat remembering which one it was. Clammed on Opera $2000, good thing because I would have said Boris Godunov. Godunov/Onegin is on my "need to learn the difference" list.
Instaget FJ. Finished the week 15/15 on DD, which makes up for losing ground on my Coryat average.

Moody's doesn't use + and -, and doesn't capitalize beyond the first letter. Not sure why you'd be expected to know or remember that for $400, though — it was a bad clue (Fitch was my first instinct, in fact)

I thought that was a bit much for a top-row box. As you said, Moody's ratings look different than S&P. S&P's AAA is Moody's Aaa and AA+ for S&P is Aa1 for Moody's. Fitch basically uses S&P's.
Sadly, I did not remember this as I said Moody's.

Unfortunately, he got FJ right so his bad wager wasn’t punished. Russian opera certainly isn’t my wheelhouse but with no real downside in risking another $601, why not?

Yeah, in the $400 box I'd expect a little more TOM... something like "The USA was a little less wealthy when...." or "this two-named credit agency"

One key difference in the operas relevant to today’s clue is different composers. Mussorgsky for Godunov, Tchaikovsky for Oneginmas3cf wrote: ↑Fri Oct 02, 2020 7:59 pm Coryat $38600 (48R, 2W)

S&P vs Moody’s was almost a coin flip. I just figured S&P to be better known to the general public.

Six years after showing up on the J! home game, the response to NUMBERS: "Unlucky way to light cigarettes" would be another Don Pardo-announced game show on the same network.

Thanks! After staring at this for a solid minute, I think I came up with a way to keep them straight. For each composer/opera pair, there is only one V between the composer and title character last names.

Re: Friday, October 2, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
That was my assumption too. There are twice as many clues naming S&P in the archive as those naming Moody's. One clue names Moody's and Fitch asking to complete the set. Also, since it was a news category they may just have wanted folks to remember it was the one of the big three that did the downgrade...
I'm troubled by the easiest FJs lately. I got the Tower part, just never got over to Italy...

Better than me. I said SEC. Only off by a lot.
