Re: Wednesday, October 14, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
The players had 1000-0-2600 after the first segment with $9000 available.
After the J! round ended it was 2200-2400-800 out of 18000 board values.
Kevin & Elaine really liked the DJ! clues to get the numbers to more respectable totals.
Elaine was skunked until clue 19 (the female DC Comics character), so well done by her to work her way towards getting the hang of the signaling device.
Jack played all the DDs though only converted one and he must have left the studio in a daze trying to figure out what happened. There was a lot of potential there that went away due to unfortunate circumstances. Good for Jack going all in on DD1 as even with the miss he was in the lead after converting DD2.
The FJ! category gave me one thought of Alfred Hitchcock. Right idea, wrong person as I did not think the clue was going to be about actor in most Best Pictures or something like that.
The FJ! clue was exactly what I needed to get movie redemption after yesterday's fail. Thank you writers. A no-doubter instaget had me done before Alex was done reading. I would not say I've paid the same dues as I have for yesterday's FJ! clue material, but I've seen some of the appearances of the subject.
With Kevin talking about Comic-Con I was certain he had the clue right and was very confident he had bet at least enough to cover Elaine doubling. Kevin was briefly vulnerable in Game 1 as only Amy negging to set up Kevin for a lock got his streak going. No Robin Carroll special for Kevin as he is L+L+L+L+1 in position for the FJ! round without getting that fifth consecutive runaway.
At least all of the look backs for how Kevin's total could have been higher go away with today's victory.

No chance for first or second place from the 4th podium even with 10 TS clues available.

NHO Tongass National Forest
Could not figure FJ!. Put Desmond Llewellyn ('Q' from the Bond movies) just to have something.

I knew there aren’t 40 bond movies, and he died earlier, but that was my first thought and wrote it down in case there was something i didn’t know.

Re: Wednesday, October 14, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
In the mid 80's Playboy did a pictorial of a female park ranger who patrolled a region of the Tongass National Forest. Hard to forget. Impressive long stemmed rose tattooed on her inner thigh.
It's actually pretty funny how many trivial facts I've learned from Playboy.
Re: Wednesday, October 14, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Ran OK, Boomerang and Making a 4 "A".
However, I skunked 2-Word TV Titles. I've heard of all the shows but couldn't tell you thing one about any of them, so I was utterly helpless. I thought "Downton Abbey" was steep for $200 though.
I was totally lost on the "out" clue in contronyms. Just couldn't make the connections there at all. I don't think I've ever heard someone say that a dead light bulb was merely "out". "Burnt out", definitely, but never just "out".
Had the same brain cramp on the Earth Day DD. "Before final exams, that must be spring break... no wait, spring break is in the clue." Just couldn't dislodge "spring break" from my brain and let anything else in.
"Rob Thomas" was just too generic a name to surface in time, even though I know I've matched him to Matchbox Twenty before. Cost me a run of the Hit Parade category, too.
Instaget FJ! before he was even done reading the clue.
Lach Trash: variety, the Dakotas, Canada, England, amalgamate. Also got the maharaja DD

Gotta admit, I don't remember that pictorial (or the national forest). I'll have to dig through my back issues.
Instaget FJ.
Uh, no. If it were possible to be, it would have been overvalued.TenPoundHammer wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 7:31 pm I thought "Downton Abbey" was steep for $200 though.

Contronyms $800: I had "detail." Judges?
Assuming it is a neg:
Coryat $44,200 (50R, 1W)
DD 3/3
FJ
Struggled in the J! round, including a goose egg on the $800 row on a bunch of gettable clues. Turned on the afterburners in DJ! with 28/30, and clammed on Kenny Rogers.
Making it a point to learn about Marvel Comics paid off on FJ....

Who the hell even watches British shows in the US anyway? I don't see any reason for any British TV show to be in the top box unless it's 1.) a billion years old like Doctor Who, or 2.) inextricably part of worldwide pop culture lexicon like Monty Python. Downton Abbey doesn't seem to be one zillionth as popular as either. They might as well have asked for That Mitchell and Webb Look.econgator wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 7:32 pmUh, no. Re: Wednesday, October 14, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
At the peak of its popularity, it regularly drew about 13.5 million viewers per week, which would have beat every single network show other than NCIS. The movie also brought in right around $200M. DOn't get me wrong, I love me some Doctor Who, but the good Doctor wishes she had numbers even close to that. So, who watches it? A LOT of people.TenPoundHammer wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 7:37 pmWho the hell even watches British shows in the US anyway? Coryat: $45,200 (51R, 0W)
DD:
FJ:
J-Scorer tells me that this is almost a new personal high — $600 off a game from March. 2/5 on African-American writers was the only sore spot.
