Yikes on Alex having to give correct the sign and the way he delivered it. :(

Katherine was 2/2 on wagering clues while the gentlemen were 0/2. Even better was Katherine wagering for the proper 22801 in the FJ! round. No wonder Coach Brown could make a proud tweet: https://twitter.com/CoachMackBrown/stat ... 36/photo/1

The FJ! category had me once again forgetting about the Mediterranean as I spent most of precall-ville in the Caribbean with detours to Tonga and Fiji.

The FJ! clue had me write the "G" for Gibraltar and stop. Nation not territory had me switch to Cyprus in making an Ottoman to Turkey area connection. I considered switching to the right place as the pen was still in my hand. The angel/demon on the shoulders argued and the bad guy won.

Another week is complete: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=6885

Well, almost. DJ18 would not take until I eliminated the second word "selected". It must be one of those coding things the system does not like. I'll email RKS.

I don't know what Josh had for missing DD1. The CC has Leclee whoever that is. I welcome better ideas.

I thought that one could have used a little more clue.

So Fred thought "think" was a four-letter word. I think that underlines a problem in our society.
I'm smart and I want respect.

Archive playthrough:

Coryat $40,400 (47R, 1W)
DD 3/3
FJ

Missed the FJ clues on Mon and Tues but was able to salvage a 3/5 week. As per usual, did better in DJ than the J round.

Ditto. Had they given us "Napoleon of Crime", I could have named Moriarty. There is a lesson in there about studying flashcards in both directions....

Now we know what the Alex photo looks like.

The bit about fending off the Nazis gave it to me.

Here is an article about Fred along with a photo of him in his work shirt. He also mentions this week was filmed on September 15.

I said "keen" for Smart Answers $200 and counted it right. Any reason I shouldn't?

As for Final, another Cyprus here to close out my worst week in a couple months.
Oh, what has science wrought? I sought only to turn a man into a metal-encased juggernaut of destruction powered by the unknown properties of a mysterious living crystal. How could this have all gone wrong?

I also had "keen". I see no reason to neg it.

I went with Cyprus for FJ.

OK ... let's try this: when person who has cancer and then dies of it points at himself and says what he said, it's a bit disconcerting.

I’ve read all of the original Holmes stories but probably wouldn’t have remembered this if I hadn’t watched the second Downey Jr. Holmes movie last week.

Yikes, that is quite the deep name thrown out by someone who can't name the French explorer who names a lake on the US/Quebec border. Good find though!

Of course if you can't name the state that borders Lake Ontario you probably shouldn't be betting anything above $5 in that category. Definitely shows the West coastedness of the current contestant base when a category like Great Lakes comes up.

So evidently, Fred's wagering theory is to presume his nearest opponent will wager what he himself should wager, in order to cover said opponent. :?

For the nth time this week, 2nd or 3rd place screwed the pooch for any chance to win on a TS.

Interesting that we got two separate contestants in the same week wearing those weird circle/square glasses. I guess those are a thing now?

I happened to be reading the Moriarty story in the Holmes collection earlier today. I doubt I'd have been able to come up with "Napoleon of Crime" otherwise. And I've read the story several times before. Ordinarily I'm surprised at how little most contestants know about the Sherlock Holmes world. For this clue, I'm on their side. I'd say it'll be interesting to see how it polls, but this is going to be a crowded poll week. We'll see if it makes the cut.

Mostly, though
Spoilers for this week's FJs
It's the alternative FJ responses that will hog the space in the poll. There are three FJs that have potential for the popular incorrect response to out-poll the correct one.

Monday: Pink Panther vs Holy Grail
Wednesday: Count of Monte Cristo vs Captain Ahab
Friday: Cyprus vs Malta

And a runner up on Tuesday where I don't think there's any one response that would outpoll Mediterranean but perhaps "I chose a different body of water" would.

I went the wrong way on everything except Ahab, my sole get for this depressing week.

Maybe it's time to expand JBoard's poll question limit from 16 to 24?
