Here's an easy way to remember when given a road name. The one that goes along the Hudson River? The Henry Hudson Parkway. :)

FJ should be an instaget for any LL members.
For many years, the Macy's fireworks were always on the East River, but in 2009, the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson's visit, they were in the Hudson, and they've been there at least a few times since. This year there were smaller unannounced displays spread over days in all 5 boroughs.

Never learned the Opera House's architect, but I know that Joan Sutherland was Australian so that made quick work of FJ.

Does anyone have a link to today's episode? The game had just started when it was interrupted by a Special Report about Biden winning the electoral college. As if the speech wasn't bad enough, then there was talk among the commentators.

I am so over the election. We are still being inundated with political ads here because of the two Senate runoffs upcoming in Georgia. Now, the election is affecting the few episodes of "Jeopardy" remaining with Alex at the helm.

Not happy. :x

There was an episode of The Drew Carey Show where he started dating an older woman (played by Shirley Jones), and at some point he offended or upset her, and in the end he hijacks a bingo game she was playing to apologize, pulling numbers and trying to work them into his conciliatory remarks. The only one I can remember is (approximately) G47: "Gee, 47 seconds ago I was hoping to get B4, so I could say, 'Before I met you...'" And he finishes that sentence, then pulls B4

Also, I was watching Million Dollar Password episodes on YouTube recently, and saw someone unsuccessfully attempt to clue "bingo" for their partner. I said in the comments that a contestant might get away with saying "B4" or "B9" like a bingo caller, then insisting they were saying "before" or "benign" (or even "B10"/"beaten").

Try searching YouTube for the contestant names. Kate Freeman vs Valerie Castelo vs Jeffrey Williams.

Good ones.

triviawayne: Definitely not Better Call Saul as I would never fall behind on that show or be late to the party in watching it last week.

It's something more recent and although it has me stumped right now, I will figure it out at some point and share then.

There was a bingo scene on a recent cruise-set episode of "The Goldbergs."

In Manhattan, the West Side Highway is next to the Hudson below 72nd street if that ever comes up. That question is negbait if you are not a New Yorker, as most of the time, the river that borders Manhattan that is asked about is the Hudson.

There was a FJ with Sydney Opera House as the answer as well last season, “The Eighth Wonder”, by composer Alan John & librettist Dennis Watkins, is about this building that opened in 1973. This is the game Jason Zuffranieri lost.

Yes, that's it. I was in no rush to see the episode since no new ones until 2021 and with none on my DVR to watch or on the schedule I could not find it with my level one search.

Thank you for the assist.

Was anyone else left wanting of Alex's pronunciation of "Daniel-San"? IMO, saying that name requires much more subtle anger and authority.

+1 said Hudson River as a pure guess

FJ was gotten off Utzon, but I will keep a mental note that 1973 is a big indicator as well.

I guessed Sydney Opera House at about the 25 second mark. The year just seemed about right.

Opus, thanks so much for the tip. Kate was one of my favorite contestants of this season, and I was furious about the preemption.

With the long stretch of 61-clue games, few TSes, no video clues, and no overly verbose contestants, how did we STILL end up three clues short?

NHO "orphan" preposition. That seemed out of place.

====

Thanks to Peanuts for helping me get Billie Jean King.

"Podcast" threw me since I don't think of them as "programs".

Blended Words for $800 got to me since I had to put my labradoodle down just a couple months ago... and then my cat died a week later.

I couldn't make heads or tails of the Shakespeare category. Ended up 0/5. Was also 0/5 in Historical Declarations.

Big, Little, No Bang for $600 was ABSOLUTELY ENORMOUS negbait for Hudson AND OF COURSE I BIT DOWN ON IT LIKE I ALWAYS DO.

Any reason I should know that Gimli is a dwarf? I was 9001% sure that Lord of the Rings + race would absolutely positively unequivocally HAVE to be "hobbit".

Balaam was unfamiliar to me too.

====

Modernish building that involves singing? Sydney Opera House it is.

Jeffrey had a lot of pauses, after buzzing in, before responding. That may have been the culprit.

Willis Tower also opened in 1973, so you have to be careful with that.

I can't remember a time with so many sub-optimal FJ bets. Every single day lately. Missed most of this game due to Biden's speech.

Alex’s chatter after he hit the first round DD killed any chance of clearing the first board.

Nothing negbait about the clue. Nothing is baiting you towards one river or the other. Is it a YEKIOYD clue? Absolutely. Negbait? Nope.

Well, if you were to Family Feud the statement "name a river in or around New York City", I think Hudson would beat out East. So, in that sense, it's a little bit neg-baity. I clammed, whispering "Hudson" and not even thinking of East, because I had that feeling of dread that the clue value was too high to be simply "name the most famous river in New York City".

For some reason, my association with the East River would be more mafia-based (ie dumping bodies there), but I have no idea where that association might have come from, or if it's accurate.

The Hudson was also my gut instinct, but given more time I think I'd realize The East River is more likely. My mental image of fireworks in New York has the Brooklyn and/or Manhattan Bridges, which are over the East River between Manhattan and Brooklyn. I think I'd go for East River for sure if it was a Daily Double with a little time to think.
