Phil Spector has appeared in several J! clues, so if you're unfamiliar with his body of musical work, I suggest you explore it a bit.

Besides which, the man himself would highly recommend you make the effort. We just watched a 2009 documentary/interview in which Spector shamelessly compares himself to such individuals as Galileo Galilei, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, J. S. Bach, Modigliani, George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Alfred Hitchcock, Elvis Presley, Brian Wilson, Bob Dylan, Lenny Bruce, and an obscure songwriting team called Lennon & McCartney, who were nonetheless well regarded in their time.

Even his ex-wife, whom he mistreated, threatened to kill, and extorted for royalties, still thinks today that he was a great genius in the studio. So.

Some trivia from the NPR obit: Spector's first hit song, at age 18, was inspired by the inscription on his (suicide-victim) father's grave: "To know him is to love him."

Cool. For the US and a few other places anyway. When's the next one for the rest of the world? If you allow leading zeroes, I guess it's the 12th of February. Last year we had one on Groundhog Day that we could all agree on: 02022020.

They won't ask about this, but the town of F***ing, Austria is now Fugging, Austria (due, primarily, to rampant sign theft and other general idiot tourist behavior)

Election fraud, this time in Uganda.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-ugan ... edirect=ca
I assume the "this time" is because of recent sanctions on unnamed Tanzanian election officials.

It’s all over the world. I’m going to Tanzania next year. I hope they don’t let fraud go through.

Uh oh. I'm supposed to be there in July. I'm skeptical about us being able to go, but we have put down a deposit.

In hindsight it may have been a mistake to move TCONA to Tanzania.

Even though they renamed the country "Tconazania"?

This has been a rough few months for Cooperstown. Now it’s Hank Aaron. I saw him hit #701 in person. I was six years old.

Mira Furlan, who played the mysterious Frenchwoman, Danielle Rousseau on Lost, has died at the age of 65. The cause of death has been reported as complications from the West Nile Virus. Furlan is also known for starring as Minbari Ambassador Delenn in the five-season run of Babylon 5 from 1994 to 1998.

Watched the game on TV; pretty thrilling. Al Downing (who is still alive) will forever be linked with Aaron. Their relationship gets at least two hits in the archive.

(DJ round, "Hank Aaron," $800, triple stumper)

(J round, "Dodger," $600)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
CORRECTIVE EDIT

I just read a later reply to this post, and realized I misread Bamaman's original statement. He said he was at the game for Aaron's home run #701.

I did not see that one. The game I watched on TV was Aaron's 715th home run, when he broke Babe Ruth's record.

My apologies for any confusion.

I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.

It was always remarkable to me that the player with the home run record also happened to be, among thousands of players in Major League history, the player who was listed first alphabetically, until Barry Bonds and David Aardsma knocked him from the top of each respective list.

You think there's any truth to the rumor that Aardsma used an ethically questionable adoption scheme to get to the top of the list? I feel there should at least be an asterisk next to his name.
