A great trivia question is who was the Dodgers left fielder on that play? Two of the most famous moments in baseball history had a ball eluding his glove.

That is a nice bit of arcane sports trivia -- I certainly didn't know it.jeff6286 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 8:48 amA great trivia question is who was the Dodgers left fielder on that play? Two of the most famous moments in baseball history had a ball eluding his glove.

BTW, I just posted a corrective edit to my original note; I was talking about the game when Aaron hit #715 and broke Ruth's record, not the game when he hit #701, which was the topic of Bamaman's original post. Guess I read what I was expecting to read, and not what was actually written.
I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.

I was also referring to #715 if that wasn't obvious by the "two of the most famous moments in history" bit, that #701 flew right by me.AFRET CMS wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 2:09 pmThat is a nice bit of arcane sports trivia -- I certainly didn't know it.jeff6286 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 8:48 amA great trivia question is who was the Dodgers left fielder on that play? $400 clue in the category BERNSTEINS in the November 17, 1998, episode of J!:
In the '50s Walter Bernstein joined other Hollywood writers on this most unwanted list
The correct response: "What is the blacklist?"
Blacklisted screenwriter and producer Walter Bernstein passed away January 22 at the age of 101. Bernstein was blacklisted in 1950 after appearing as an unfriendly witness before the House Un-American Activities Committee. He survived for the next several years by writing TV scripts and affixing the names of other writers to them. Bernstein would later write about these experiences in his screenplay for The Front, a 1976 film starring Zero Mostel and Woody Allen. The screenplay earned Bernstein his only Oscar nomination.
His blacklisting was lifted by director Sidney Lumet, who hired him in 1958 to write the screenplay for his film That Kind of Woman, starring Sophia Loren. Bernstein would go on to write the screenplay for Lumet's classic 1964 nuclear thriller Fail-Safe, which starred Henry Fonda, Walter Matthau, and Larry Hagman.

Aaron hit #701 on July 31, 1973, off Pedro Borbon of the Reds. Pete Rose was in left at the time.

He did get his name mentioned in Vin Scully's call of the home run for national TV: "Fastball, it is a high drive into deep left center field, Buckner goes back to the fence, it is gone!"

I was supposed to go to Israel in March but it’s been postponed to late September. My new passport is not going to get stamps anytime soon.

And Darrell Evans was on base when Aaron hit the homer. Aaron and Evans are also two of the oldest players to hit 40 HR in a season. Aaron did it in 1973 when he was 39 and Evans did it in 1985 when he was 38.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 7:35 pm Put me on the list who could have named Buckner in my sleep as well as Tom House catching the ball and Dusty on deck.

The last team to host an NFL championship game was
Spoiler
The Minnesota Vikings. They beat the Cleveland Browns 27-7 on January 4, 1970 to win the 1969 NFL championship. They went on to lose Super Bowl IV to the Chiefs. This was the last season before the merger.
