This is sort of last year's news, but I found it interesting.

I thought maybe 2020 would see the first calendar year with the same song at number 1 both the first chart week of the year and the last chart week of the year, but Taylor Swift's "Willow" bumped "All I Want For Christmas is You" out of the top spot for the week of Christmas. "All I Want" jumped back to number 1 for the first week of 2021, so having it happen this year is in play.

Technically incorrect. They are incorporated in New York, but their headquarters are in Virginia. They will be re-incorporating in Texas. Whether their operations will be moved to Texas as well is as yet undetermined.

The J! writers like presidential pets.

The Bidens have two German shepherds: Champ & Major

Joe Biden's middle name was mentioned in the 2020 thread, but it does not hurt to bring it up for this year as well: Robinette

22-year-old poet Amanda Gorman reads "The Hill We Climb" at Biden's inauguration.

Given the impressive poetry and the amount of buzz it has generated, I'm expecting her name and/or the name of the poem to show up in a clue before long.

Hank Aaron has passed away at age 86. Known as "Hammerin' Hank" he broke Babe Ruth's home record of 714 home runs while playing for the Atlanta Braves.

Putting this here instead of in the discussion because I could see the show making the link in a clue:

MC Hammer was nicknamed Hammer by the Oakland A's when he was their bat boy because of a resemblance to Hank Aaron.
Total game show career losings = $171,522

The impeachment trial of former president Donald Trump will be presided over by President of the Senate Pro Tempore Patrick Leahy, (D), senator from Vermont (and not Chief Justice John Roberts). The President Pro Tem has historically presided over impeachments of non-presidents, and since he will be voting as well as presiding, he takes an additional oath of impartiality.

Former Fed Secretary Janet Yellen is confirmed as Secretary of the Treasury, the first woman to hold the position.

Traditionally (since 1949 at least) the Treasurer of the United States is also a woman. The position is currently vacant, although there is no reason to expect the next to hold the position won't also be a woman. This means that the 2 signatures on paper money minted during the Biden administration will both be women. This will be especially significant in the case of the Harriet Tubman 20 dollar bill, which they also announced today they will be moving forward with.
