I'll just say, very happy that this thread has started with an emphasis on endurance, rather than death... :)

Gerry Marsden, the front man of 1960s Liverpool music group Gerry and the Pacemakers, has died at the age of 78. Gerry and the Pacemakers are featured regularly on the J! playing boards in connection with their hit song "Ferry Cross the Mersey."

The group had several other top ten singles, including "I Like It," "How Do You Do It?," "You'll Never Walk Alone," "It’s Gonna Be All Right," and their biggest hit, "Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying."

The song "You'll Never Walk Alone," which is from the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical Carousel, is regularly sung at football/soccer games around the world after it was adopted as the anthem of the Liverpool Football Club of England's Premier League.

According to Variety, Gerry and the Pacemakers were the second act to sign with Beatles manager Brian Epstein. Their first single was March 1963’s "How Do You Do It?," which climbed to No. 1 on the U.K. charts. That song was famously rejected by the Beatles after producer George Martin tried to persuade the group to record it as their first single, opting instead for the Lennon-McCartney original "Love Me Do."

Also the Madison Scouts' corps song, though drum & bugle corps doesn't get a lot of play on J!

He's just the 3rd wide receiver to win the award (Tim Brown, 1987 and Desmond Howard, 1991).

Maybe more for LL, but Helen Viola Jackson, the last known widow of a Civil War soldier, has passed away at the age of 101. He offered to marry her when he was 93 and she was 17 so she could receive his pension, she accepted, and then never took the pension after he died....and also kept the marriage a secret until 3 years ago.

ETA: she apparently died in December 2020, but I just now found out, and don't see it on the 2020 thread.

Tommy Lasorda, longtime manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers and member of the Baseball Hall of Fame, has died at the age of 93.

Lasorda managed the Dodgers from 1976 to 1996, winning two World Series titles with the team. He briefly came out of retirement to manage Team USA to gold in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney.

As a young pitcher, Lasorda signed a minor league contract with the then-Brooklyn Dodgers in 1949. He made only one start for the Dodgers, in May 1955, getting the hook after one inning after he threw three wild pitches.

After retiring as manager, Lasorda remained with with the Dodgers, assisting in scouting and coaching while appearing at various events as an ambassador for the team. In all, he spent 71 years as a member of the Dodgers organization.

Noted film director Michael Apted has passed away at the age of 79. Apted directed Sissy Spacek to an Oscar-winning performance in Coal Miner's Daughter, and he directed the acclaimed "Up" series of documentary films (21 Up, 28 Up, 35 Up, etc.). He also directed the James Bond film The World Is Not Enough and episodes of Coronation Street, Masters of Sex, Ray Donovan, and Rome.

I tried to look Apted up in the J! Archive, but my search returned 220 clues incorporating the word "adapted."
