Re: Monday, January 18, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
It's always fun when the correct response is a contestant's name such as happened in CELEBRITY NAMES IN COMMON.
Ken has his own phraseology sometimes and I liked his, "Those are they" today.
Yeah, I think someone(s) on the writing staff likes The Crown as that Lithgow clue had me at least know that one no problem.
The FJ! clue had me join the players at keeping it 100 and I went the shorter way of Jennifer & Helen instead of Donesh's slightly longer way.
Jennifer had a possible 30400 and Donesh got all the way up to 28400 for the win. So many players in 2nd go all in and today it would have paid off for the title defense while instead Donesh got away with it.

Re: Monday, January 18, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Archive playthrough:
Coryat $38,800 (48R, 1W)
DD 2/3
FJ
First a FJ, now a DD that requires knowledge about The Crown. I guess I know where I'm putting some extra effort...
Had a Really Rough time with alliteration, only 1/5. Some days my brain works for categories like that, some days it doesn't. Today was a NO. TV predictably whooped my behind; thankfully, the $2000 clue was pretty guessable.
Instaget FJ.

runs: G-ography,
Daily Doubles: (Garrett in the clue pointed me to Billy the Kid),
trash: captain, Revolutionary War (WECIB), Godwin-Austen,
FJ: Even I got this one
I don't think Donesh should've been negged as the two different measurements implied uneven in the clue.
judges: discombobulated for dumbfounded?

Would have aced Celebrity names if it didnt take me the first clue to figure out what they wanted.
Kens Mic is Definitely way more Noticeable then Alex's.
Absolutely no clue on final. i havent watch very many recent movies. but of course it ended up being a 60s Movie. Everyone else got it, so i guess im stupid lol.
so weird not seeing the usual logo in the closing credits.
Lach Trach - Revolutionary War

Never seen The Crown and got both, although the one today was a bit of a guess.
Never seen the movie in today’s FJ but breakfast foods at a fancy NYC store leaves no other options.

If I'd have looked at the DD as "guess a British PM in the second row" I would have gotten it too. Unfortunately, I psyched myself out and thought of it as "HA! The Crown is about to bite you again!" and guess Harold Wilson because he was PM when LBJ was president.

OTOH, I do not at all like his repeated "we were going for" when no one gets it. Something about saying it that way sounds off to me like it's saying there were multiple correct answers but "we were going for" this particular answer (I mean question).MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 1:39 pm Ken has his own phraseology sometimes and I liked his, "Those are they" today.

Can't agree with that. Parallel bars are a specific piece of equipment (yes, I get that uneven bars are parallel, too, but they're two different things).
I thought Jennifer might get negged for "deltoids", but Ken never said specifically that the response had to start and end with "d".

The Crown also happens to be an SPTV-produced show.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 1:39 pm It's always fun when the correct response is a contestant's name such as happened in CELEBRITY NAMES IN COMMON.

The event is the uneven bars. So “uneven parallel bars” is also incorrect.

Re: Monday, January 18, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Dang, too late to get in on the chorus of Deep Blue Something. I'd be shocked if FJ! doesn't poll over 90%. They gave a lot of unnecessary clues - both the "movie settings" category and the "luxury" hint could have been altered, but I guess they're in a generous mood. That's one reason I'm not a huge fan of ToC invites being based on dollar amount - unless they try to make sure every week has either 2 easy and 3 hard (or vice versa) FJ! clues, a contestant could run into a pile of pillows like this and inflate their score in 4 games, while another contestant can do well in everything BUT run into 4 impossible FJ! clues and come out with a paltry sum. Of course, opponent score has to do with it too...if the scores going into FJ! are 10100 vs 5000, you're not walking away with 20K.
Loved the "Jennifer" clue. Speaking of clues where a contestant's name is the correct response, here's a fun one from 4/6/1987:
DID YOU NOTICE? $800: Last name of either of your opponents
Anyone else find "Chernobyl" vastly overvalued in HISTOIRC TV? Ukraine + 1986 is an easy Pavlov for the explosion. I suppose you had to be sure that the city was the name of the mini-series, and it wasn't named "Chernobyl Disaster" or something like that. Maybe I'm biased because I watched the mini-series.
I'm also surprised there was no reversal for "uneven parallel bars". I mean, they are parallel bars, if you draw a weird plane that slants. But I've never heard them called that. A quick Google shows that they originally started as men's parallel bars, and they just raised one, but now, they're a totally separate thing.
