Said CNN instead of C-SPAN. Unsurprisingly, politics ends my FJ! streak.

I've watched more C-SPAN in 2021 than in all previous years combined. And it was all on one day.

Emission to have something Monday, talked myself into CNN Thursday.
Knew it was "soice."
Sun King got me to Apollo.
Oh, what has science wrought? I sought only to turn a man into a metal-encased juggernaut of destruction powered by the unknown properties of a mysterious living crystal. How could this have all gone wrong?

I speak moderately okay German = 'soyss' came naturally
Louis XIV -> Sun King -> Apollo -> Greco-Roman -> yep, Apollo

Prior to the Tuesday FJ! clue I knew that "Seuss" could rhyme with "rejoice".
That's how I solved that one. If I didn't know the [alternative|correct] pronunciation, I doubt I would have solved it. The choice of using a rhyme for his name confirmed it for me. I doubt that would have been enough on its own without the prior trivia knowledge.

Had "exergy" for Monday. Didn't know if it was a word, but it felt as though it would fit the clue if it was. (It is a word. It doesn't fit the clue.) Entropy didn't occur to me. I'm not sure what I'd have done if it had. I knew the Seuss fact in advance and that helped me get Tuesday fairly quickly. Thought of Louis XIV as sun king first which led to Apollo or possibly Helios. "Greco-Roman" pointed to Apollo. Waffled between C-SPAN and CNN. Decided on the right one. Surprised Friday gave so much trouble and was a TS. The syntax of the clue didn't flummox me. "Late 16th century" made it pretty easy to guess what they were going for. (Note: I'm not criticizing or scolding anyone who didn't get it or who had a rockier path to victory. Save your e-breath. I'm just saying everything lined up the right way in my mind to lead to the correct response.)

Juliette "Gordon" Low has been on the edge of my available knowledge for a while now. I clammed this time but I think I'll pick it up on the next. "Dombey and Son" = Dickens. He doesn't have a huge canon of works and I think I recognize all the titles. If I'd been asked to come up with the title myself this probably would have ended differently, even if spotted the "and Son". Mrs P shouted out Botany Bay before I had time to process the clue. Like others, I associate Botany Bay most strongly with Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. But I'm also aware that it's a real place on our planet, somewhere toward the bottom.

Never heard of "Sooce" pronounced as "Soyce" but knowing how to speak German a bit helped me to arrive at the "E-U" diphthong (as in Freud) and land correctly on the side of the good doctor.

I'll take it.

I knew Louis XIV was "Sun King" because of that ballet, but until Wednesday I thought his role was just The Sun. I said Helios, though "Greco-Roman" made me worry. I checked the Louis XIV -> Sun King option, because I did do that before I got to Apollo, since everything that happens happens before something that never happens.

I said "Botany Beach" (probably conflating Bondi Beach and Botany Bay, but also misled by thinking "on shore" was more of a clue than it was), and I believe I corrected myself before Ken gave the correct response, but I think it was too late for me to count it, much as I hate leaving TPH "that was too hard, poll request?" acquiescences unchecked.

I knew the Seuss pronunciation (I think he was once quoted as saying or writing that it rhymes with "voice").

On Wednesday, I first focused on "nuit" and thought of Hypnos and Morpheus. "Greco-Roman" then steered me to Apollo and sun king was confirmation.

"Seuss" looks German and also I'd seen that poem before.

I've watched less than five seconds of C-SPAN since 1979.
I'm smart and I want respect.

I said CNN.

No guess on the others, but my mom said "synergy".

Could have gotten Juliette Low with another second or two.

I knew the Seuss/rejoice bit from an Uncle John's Bathroom Reader.

I don't think I've ever watched C-SPAN.

Knew Dr. Seuss rhymed with voice.
Sun King brought me to Apollo.
Took a fifth option: Conquistadores.
I don't watch TV anymore anyway.
But I got all 15 daily doubles :P

I was sure it was C-SPAN, but my husband said CNN with equal confidence.
I knew Seuss could rhyme with Jerry Reuss, but I got sidetracked thinking about kids' author/illustrator William Joyce.

My response Fri was "Swiss Guard," the only "force" I could associate with the pope....maybe it was the origin story??...Nope! Then Ken made it (more) obvious.
I've heard of Botany Bay...as where convicts landed when transported to Australia...I just didn't think of it.
I was watching C-Span on Jan. 6. I'm a fan of C-Span 2 on the weekends, when they discuss books all day long. I'm sure I've gotten a correct J! response once or twice from keeping the TV on that channel. But I have to admit, during the pandemic my default channel has changed to Turner Classic Movies...It's more feel-good... :)

Knew there was a Seuss connection to Dartmouth, then remembered the pronunciation of eu in German to confirm the answer.

Have watched CSPAN occasionally, but not this year.

Mon - Nothing, trying to figure out a fitting synonym for explosion ending in 'rgy'
Tue - ...Joyce?
Wed - Almost put down Bacchus before deciding Sun King to Apollo made more sense
Thu - CNN
Fri - Children's crusade

I had to go back to the last week of S33 to find my (now second) most recent 1/5 week.
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

I feel pretty good about going 5-for-5 on this week's FJs. But missing Botany Bay was a real headslapper.
