Everest is less than 100 miles from the Indian border to the south and even less to the east, although I suspect from that direction the view may be obscured by the nearby peaks (#3 highest peak, Kangchenjunga, is on the India-Nepal border on the eastern edge of Nepal). Bottom line is I agree Everest would be visible from India in clear weather assuming the sight lines work out.Volante wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 6:32 pmRight. But they didn't have to be -in- Nepal/China to measure it. It's a big mountain. These days, pollution usually blocks the view

I don’t think this bangs TPH’s argument. Those examples are initials/abbreviations, not the actual band names. But I also had no problem with ELO, because that seems to me to be an alternate name and not simply an abbreviation. (It is now known as “Jeff Lynne’s ELO.”)econgator wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 10:10 pmYou mean like this?TenPoundHammer wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 7:55 pmSo you would have been okay with CSNY or NKotB being in the category?

If you insert something and it’s wrong, you take your chances. And they have called it wrong before. At least in my experience. Vilnius is a foreign word. Famous case.davey wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 11:17 pmBut we know that initial articles don't count on J! Even if they did, they're not going to "ding" somebody for narrowly mispronouncing a foreign word.JyV92 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 10:32 pm Honestly, if you don’t know the specific name of a poem there’s no reason to buzz in. I thought it was consistent but very strict to not take spark for sparks. but there are sports teams with singular names and those with plural names and them‘s the breaks.
I was very surprised that they accepted La Morte d’Arthur. Morte d’Arthur would have been fine but the 15th century work does not have a grammatically correct French name
Today it would be La Mort d’Arthur. But the work is LE Morte d’Arthur. Too much information and incorrect. I’m surprised they let it pass. It reminded me of when Jim Scott decades ago had to spell out the last name of Paul Klee and sadly said K-L-E - accent aigu-E. There was panache however it was also a lack of correct information. It’s a German name and there is no accent
So I thought they were going to ding the guy and they didn’t

I would put ELO with CCR. Not an official name, but a common shorthand way of saying it by the average person.Woppy T wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 6:42 amI don’t think this bangs TPH’s argument. That was transposing syllables in Final Jeopardy, no? Not putting the wrong spin on a vowel sound...More like De Morte L'Arthur...JyV92 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 5:44 amIf you insert something and it’s wrong, you take your chances. OMD is probably the best match for ELO in the "band goes by the initials of its name in an official capacity" department.

It's the end of the journey that counts.
