17 clues for the first segment. I won't say it's happened a hundred times, but definitely more than a dozen is my instinct.

Michael's IMDb page: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1685000/
Michael's Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Colton

Definitely not his first time on TV and explains why he woke up with that FILMS OF THE '80s category.

Aaron trailed in games 1 & 2 and won. For the first time he led today and then of course lost. I've seen that pattern before. You want to keep playing and possibly make a ToC? You gotta be able to solve things like DD3.

The FJ! category had me wishing for one of Bolivia or Paraguay.

The FJ! clue was kind and allowed me to get the solve percentage on the board when counting the contestants up to 25%. I worked with a guy who stepped away for a time to go to Africa and help out with the election in 1993.

That, plus these clues:
Spoiler
#7976, aired 2019-04-22 NEW COUNTRY $400: With independence in 1993, Eritrea made Ethiopia landlocked, cutting off its access to this sea
#7788, aired 2018-06-20 25 YEARS AGO: 1993 $1000: The 1993 secession of Eritrea left this largest horn of Africa country landlocked
#7426, aired 2016-12-19 LANDLOCKED AFRICAN COUNTRIES $400: After the 1993 secession of Eritrea, this other "E" nation became landlocked
#5649, aired 2009-03-12 LANDLOCKED UP $1600: Eritrea's independence made this neighbor landlocked
made sure I have a shot at the weekly perfecto tomorrow.

I'll put it here since it gets more eyeballs than other places on this board.

CBS All Access becomes Paramount Plus on Monday. Word on the street is that the watching of local CBS affiliates is going away with that change. Locast & Houston are going to see more action? The problem is there will be then be no early back-up protections when politics & weather rear their heads. :(

Ran Names the Same.

Went with Liberia cause they love to use that Country but that was just a shock in the dark.

CBS All access actually becomes Paramount plus on March 4th.

I liked Aaron. Hate to see a fellow Canuck go, but he had a solid run. I wondered why his FJ wagers ended with 27, but I guess we'll never know.

FJ was pretty much an instaget. $6200 in LT, so enough to win from the fourth podium, although I wouldn't bet anything with my total, so I'd lose to Michael's small bet. Got the distemper TS from Frasier, of all places.

Instaget FJ.

It's not the easiest, but surprised that it was a TS.

Is 17 clues the most ever played before the break?

Ran First Name's the Same and Chicken Nuggets.

Businesses for $200 was EPIC negbait for Lysol, and of course I bit.

Strangely 0/5 in "Round" the World. I don't know where the disconnect was, but I just couldn't piece the clues together at all.

History for $400 could have been any weapon. I thought sword or spear made more sense as being "long".

NHO "ice cores". Poll request?

No guess on FJ! 110 million seemed way too big to be anything in Africa.

Knew FJ cold from both 1993 and the population factoid. Hopefully that breaks me out of my FJ slump over the past two weeks. Congrats to Michael on winning one for New England.

Aaron disclosed this in one of the Reddit game threads the other day, it's a nod to the combined age of his kids (15+12).

Ice cores have been huge and in the mainstream news for 20+ years partially due to climate change.

But it had all the trappings of negbait.

Landlocked countries is such a narrow topic, easy for any trivia hopeful to learn. And for two contestants to answer a non-landlocked country is geographically unacceptable. When I added the African landlocked countries to my trivia base there were only 14. Quickly had to add Ethiopia and then much later South Sudan.

I'd like to think this clue will poll quite high here, but I'm frequently surprised on both what people know here and don't know.

FJ was pre-empted here for news of the strike in Syria. Really, they couldn't have waited 5 minutes to tell us about the 4,624,517,416th US airstrike in the Middle East?

This is a favorite fact of Thorsten in Learned League as well:

2012: LL53MD13: With a population around 82 million, this East African nation is the most populous landlocked nation in the world, by far. (42%)

2014: LL61MD17: In May 1993, with over 50 million more people than #2 Uganda, this country became the most populous landlocked country in the world. (27%)

2017: LL75MD22: As a result of a 1993 independence referendum that finished with 99.83% of voters in favor, what nation replaced Uganda as the world's most populous landlocked country? (20%)

2021: FJ: Losing its ocean access in 1993, this African Union member is the most populous landlocked nation, with 110 million people.

Michael's Final wager may not have been enough to cover 3rd place doubling up but it was good strategy against anything Marisa did with an incorrect response. It turned out to be a well timed gamble with that tough clue.

Sorry to see Aaron go.

Four countries in Africa have populations greater than 100 million. And Ethiopia is nowhere close to Nigeria in population. (Lagos is a port, people. It ain't landlocked.)

Nigeria 206,139,589
Ethiopia 109,224,414
Democratic Republic of the Congo 102,561,403
Egypt 101,334,404

I'm kind of sorry to see Aaron go, but that is offset by finally seeing a sensible second place bet with it's sweet reward.

I knew the answer was a trivia staple, but hastily read the population as 10 million, not 110 million. This made me snicker at the two Nigeria guesses (which I also thought was not landlocked). I went with South Sudan, but wasn't happy about the year because that I've only heard about it the last decade or so. I wouldn't have got Ethiopia anyway - and I appreciate the enrichment from Mike about how it came to be.

The new host is probably in trouble with the Executive Producer for running off 17 clues before the break :).

Coryat: $38,400
49 R/4 W
DD: 2/3
FJ:
LT: (Pendleton) Roundup, distemper, Peter the Great (DD), (ice) cores

Now *that* was a savvy wager.

I remembered Eritrean independence being a little bit later in the '90s, but I was able to swat away that doubt and lock in the correct FJ! response.
