There was some serious movement on that fastball.

4/5; my "guess a Yankee" spinner landed on Mariano instead of Jeter.

I've definitely seen Randy Johnson and Derek Jeter play in person. There's a slim chance I saw Reggie Jackson.

4 of 5, didn't remember that nickname for Jeter.

Saw Ernie and Reggie in person.

I remember the pigeon incident... Did the bird get awarded first base? :)

Actual quote from Wikipedia on "no pitch":

"After the pitch hit the bird, the ball was ruled dead. The bird was also ruled dead."

I saw Reggie with the A's (and I think also with the Angels); The Unit with the Diamondbacks and the Giants; and Jeter (interleague game against the Giants).

Got all five. I saw Jeter play at home against the Braves in 2006, as well as at some point in Anaheim against the Angels. I may have seen Johnson pitch at some point, but I don't remember.

Ran the category, can't remember if I saw Jeter play or if the ill-fated birthday party was before he became a Yankee.

As for the person wondering about demographics earlier, I'm in the Xennial/Oregon Trail generation (tail end of Gen X/start of millennial)

I don't watch baseball, but I do watch ESPN. This would have been my first category picked once I had control, and hopefully would have matched Syed's free $3000
Ted, Ernie, and (probably?) Reggie never played on ESPN. You had to have gotten them from some other ecosystem? But not from actually watching them play, since I certainly didn't see Teddy and Ernie on black and white TV.

I saw Randy Johnson at least once, while he was with the Astros in 1998:

I saw Derek Jeter several times during his career -- this was the most recent:

Do you still have your Giants/Eagles shoelaces or perfumed bracelet .

(microaggression alert :o )
Spoiler
I might have seen Reggie play at Royals stadium, but it was probably "Tube Top" day and I have no idea who played or who won
.

I did visit about 20 ball parks by arranging business travel to baseball schedules, but I really only like day games frying in the hot sun of the outfield bleachers.

Those were Pirates shoelaces, sponsored by Pittsburgh-area supermarket chain Giant Eagle. That was a giveaway for kids.

I think the "fragrance bracelet" was only for women, but in any case, I was wearing Rays apparel to that game, so I don't think they would have tried very hard to hand me a Yankees giveaway item.

I failed my sports ornithology and thought Johnson hit a seagull. The internets show that that it was Dave Winfield who hit one throwing a warm up ball back to the dugout from the outfield. I thought he'd hit it with a batted ball, (or that Ken Griffey Jr. had once hit one). Great times we live in that we can fact check instantly :). Too bad so many people are happier with false narratives :(.

If 80's baseball is a golden era, I think for me it's because the mega-contracts hadn't started yet. Maybe because small market teams still had a chance also. Even then, the only thing shown on the one TV game a week was Yankees/Dodgers/Red Sox.

Mr. October? Mr. November?

Harrumph.

As a fan of the Cleveland Indians, I know our best players are usually known as "Mr. February."

How long did you live on the Island? You could have at least become a Mets fan.

Swept it, and saw Randy Johnson a couple times as a Mariner (91/92). Man, those Blue Jays series at the Kingdome were rockin back then.

Blue Jays fans still show up in force at their annual series in Seattle. At least it seems like Blue Jays fans outnumber Mariners fans, but maybe it's just that the Canadian fans are more boisterous. :)

We called it the "Surrey Effect." Surrey is to Vancouver what Kent is to Seattle (if Almost Live didn't lie to me).
