Re: Thursday, March 4, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Jim can laugh all the way to the bank about his fumbles, stumbles and brain farts as none of them (definitely plural) cost him the game. Good for his wallet with triplets heading to college. Now he's paid for textbooks for one of them?
The game was tight when DD2 was found at 4200, 4600 & 4800.
The FJ! category had me do one precall of Sherman tank.
The FJ! clue had me quickly join the gentlemen for a solve and a relaxed pen.
I wonder if Melis did a Sioux to Native American to Tomahawk connection for missile?
Not solving DD3 ended up costing Chauncey the match. Nothing like a word origin type clue to stump a player at a bad time.
Jim needs a cleaner game tomorrow and I'll be curious to see if he can settle down to put his score in better shape going into the FJ! round.

I initially wrote tanks for FJ, but it didn't feel right. I then started thinking of other American Indian tribes, and everything fell into place when I remembered the Apache. I can rest easy knowing I'll be avoiding the box of shame for another week. *wipes brow*
Congrats to Jim for winning money for the three-headed college fund. That should make a very, very, very, very, small dent.

The Sioux is the type of helo you see in the M*A*S*H opening and in the show itself.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who thought the clue was asking for a kind of military equipment used by the Sioux tribe and not a kind of military equipment named Sioux.

This strikes me as a very good FJ clue, prodding you to make the connection to later wars and better known equipment. I wasn't smart enough to do that...
I was shocked when Jim turned to his fellow contestants saying "Please let me win..." and Mike said "We'll let you guys talk about that at the commercial break!" Get Standards & Practices out and have that man fired, pronto!...

Dierks Bentley for Dirk Gently was one of the funniest "close but no cigar" guesses I've heard in a long time.
"Bonfires and nudity" was a great ad-lib from Mike.
Showing my strength for words, I ran Homophones.
Precalled King of the Hill in King of TV. I've received many a "dammit, Bobby" in my day. Also precalled "On the Road Again" and the overturn on the same.
I bit on the Montana negbait on Borders for $400. My jaw dropped when it was ruled wrong and I said out loud, "Bwuh? HOW is that wrong?! What else could it possibly BE?!"
I almost said "postbellum" for "reconstruction", keeping it fresh in my head for when it actually was a response.
Apache and blackhawk helicopters are familiar to me, but I couldn't make the right mental connections and was left with a blank screen.
Lach Trash: spring training, Cabin 13, postbellum, Isaiah

Re: Thursday, March 4, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I wrote down submarine at first, having a blank. Then I reread the clue, focusing on the word ARMY, and immediately facepalmed. Nevermind that subs are apparently named by letter/number combos or, logically, after marine animals. I then did a "what does the Army use", and quickly scribbled down helicopter, without even really thinking of Apaches or Black Hawks - I only had 5 seconds. Malis had me nervous, because I did immediately go to "tomahawk", which is a good guess.
I caught the "(back) on the road again", and wondered if I'd gotten it wrong. I didn't bother checking the Archive, and was rewarded.
I had to go "antebellum...postbellum...NO, reconstruction" for the civil war clue. I was then rewarded in the LATIN, PLEASE category a few clues later.
Dog breeds I'm usually pretty bad on, but thanks to the musical Rent, I got the Akita....Evita.

44R. 2/4 on big clues. I've been trying to watch The Crown but Jared Harris is not on my radar and I didn't figure out in time. I think I guessed Mrs. Muir. I'm not familiar with the phrase "give up the ghost" and I got stuck looking for a Hamlet connection. Also missed the libido DD. I guessed Id and I was trying to think of the complement to Thanatos but couldn't pull Eros.
My only miss in the dog category was Cairn Terrier. I think I've always had them mixed up with Scottish Terriers.
Missed the Delaware river. Does anybody know a good way to look at rivers on Google Maps? That tool is great for looking at some things that come up on Jeopardy! but not so much for rivers. I want to be able to follow the route of a river without having to zoom in really close.
I wonder if there would be any reaction if the reconstruction clue played immediately after the postbellum clue.

Good to know. That will show up somewhere.
I had a dream that I was asleep and then I woke up and Jeopardy! was on.

On the first daily double Jim bet $1000 and missed. On the second daily double Jim said "Yeah. It's got me in trouble last time I think I'm going to bet $1000".
