CROSSWORD CLUES "R" had the 4-letter cross clue a stumper, while my LT pick-up credit goes exactly to crossword puzzles.

Hope the author of The Last Black Unicorn is not watching today as her being a stumper would have to sting. On the other hand I like to imagine her watching and guessing what she might say aloud.

Great work by Bryce to make it all the way from deep in the hole for the lead. Not that Emily would agree, but if ever there would have been a good spot for a gimme FJ! clue, today was it. (The charity would agree) Instead it is reset the counter for a champ once again at one win. Bryce had to cover Kevin and Kevin had to cover Emily. Third place was the right place to be today with that clue.

My precalls were FedEx, Amazon, Morton, Starbucks and Prudential.

The FJ! clue had me without a doubt looking at a miss. I had no idea or inspiration for anything intelligent and wrote United Airlines. United Airlines More Than Ever.

The correct response? Not gonna happen. East Coast bias and shrugged it off. I'm already over it and ready to see tomorrow's clue.

Emily had a very good J! round that could have been even $2800 better. We'll see if she can have a stronger DJ! round tomorrow.

I have no expectation for J! to do any messing around tomorrow on April Fool's Day as reports seem to indicate just getting through a taping day is more of a chore than ever since Alex's passing.

I think of the response as a slogan more than a logo. Like Mark, no chance.

Best I could come up with was Apple, which made no sense, except that I could see that an apple could have a bruise. The Apple logo was designed by Rob Janoff. You can have his "team" design you a logo if you have a spare $10k sitting around.

I knew the answer had something to do with NY, and Glaser had designed a lot of New York centric logos and icons, but the bruise really confused me. Living in the NY area during and after 9/11, I never remember seeing this. The best I could come up with was the Big Apple logo, although the additional words clicked once I saw the answer.

This FJ is arguably too misleading to be valid, in my opinion. Milton Glaser's Wikipedia page calls it "blackened and burned," not bruised. Also, if Glaser wanted to bruise the heart, the dark spot probably would've been bigger.

For some value of "had to". Kevin could also have decided that it was more likely that there would be a hard FJ! that they all would miss than that there would be a FJ! that he would get and Bryce would miss. Temperamentally, most people seem to view it the way you described it (i.e., harder to live with losing by failing to cover third than by failing to cater to a triple stumper).

The best I could come up with for FJ! was the smiley face, though I didn't think it quite fit (Have a nice day more than ever?). The correct response makes sense in retrospect, though I'm not sure I can identify the mark in the picture as a bruise.

He bet to cover her by a dollar. If she bets the max to stay ahead of his MSBIW score ($5800) she has $18,400 if she gets it right. So a $2,401 wager by him would be defensible. But that logic doesn’t work if you are trying to explain to your friends why you lost to a player behind you when you got FJ right.

Glad to see I wasn’t the only one who had the same bad idea on FJ as I put “Have a nice day”. I had zero confidence it was right but it’s better than nothing.

I didn't realize "I NY" was actually considered a logo, so I was completely stumped here.

As a New Yorker, even though I'm skipping the Oz episodes, I am booing my TV at this FJ outcome.

Exciting game all around. Could be the East Coast bias, but we had this FJ at "Milton Glaser." Shocked, shocked it was a TS.

I would highly recommend New York Magazine's tribute to Glaser after his death last year. There was a good spread of his covers in the print version too.

I was quite confident it would be the Uncle Sam "I Want You" image. Completely overlooked the part about the designer still being alive.
