It helps when you remember the category name; negged FJ with Lindbergh just to write something down. First reveal was a giant “aaarrrrggggghhhhh!” from me.

I’m not buying anything from Dr. Mehmet Oz either, and I tend to hold people of his background to a higher standard than, say, journalists so I dislike his transgressions more than those of some others...but if I step back and try to judge more-or-less dispassionately, I thought he did quite well, especially this week where he seemed to be in a good groove. So far though, I think the only guest host who wouldn’t wear poorly long term was Ken. I still suspect the permanent host will be somebody who we don’t see this season though.

Venezuela occasionally makes noises about renaming Angel Falls to its indigenous name of Kerepakupai Vená.

No. It's nearly 200 miles from Pikes Peak to the Kansas state line.
Not quite. Colorado Springs to Weskan, KS, is listed as less than 160 road miles.

It can also be visible from I-25 near the Wyoming border -- around 150 miles. But it has to be a really clear day for it not to be blocked by Denver's brown cloud.

So of course there's a tool... Technically this is all that's visible from the summit of Pikes Peak, but using the highly scientific principle of "If I can see you, you can see me" I imagine it works in the reverse. No red in Kansas but that smidgen of I-25 in Wyoming is there. There's also a bit of New Mexico, too.

The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

Very cool tool and fun to explore. Wonder what Katharine Bates would have thought of it.

Google Earth shows 162 miles as the crow flies from Pikes Peak to the nearest point on the Kansas border. I drove from Kansas to Denver a few years ago, although I can't remember when I first started to see the Rockies. But it was pretty darn far away.

Fingers crossed that this means we get a two-week break from "We were looking for."
Spoiler alert for the ESPN link - Aaron may have blabbed too much about the end of his first game.

Thanks for the heads up. I will wait until Monday night before reading any previews.

I hope it means something spoilery - have had to fast-forward to final the last two games because I can't handle his voice at all (this happens about twice a season). But who knows. It didn't seem conclusive by any means, just that it was something potentially interesting.

Colorado College? (I know an alum from '90s.)

The one time I was in Colorado Springs was on the move with my family to CA in July and we spent an extra night there. We arrived in time in time for lunch and settled in at a diner. Just after our food arrived, a heavy thunder/hailstorm struck. It knocked out power, left the street looking like a river and dropped six inches of hail. The hail, among other things, dented the boat we were towing and knocked holes through the rust on one of the cars.

The storm left the area looking like winter. We stayed the extra time making sure we got insurance claims started, but it was worth it. Colorado Springs is a lovely area and I'm glad we spent the extra time there and not Denver.

For those who don't know about them, tepuis (whence the source of Angel Falls) are one of the coolest geographic formations on Earth. It's worth reading up on them. Among other things, they inspired Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Lost World" and was the location for Pixar's movie "Up".

That's the one.
Colorado for sure generates the biggest hailstones I've ever encountered. The day I drove home after freshman year, hailstones the size of marbles--not enormous, I know, but still the largest I've seen--came pelting down. I don't recall any dents, but they were big enough to hurt if they hit you on the head.

Agreed. I've been in two really nasty hailstorms in Colorado. That stuff is frightening to be in.

Interesting. I knew there's a car roof-mounted tent brand called Tepui, but never knew where the name came from.

According to our insurance agent, out of "acts of God" like fires, floods, tornadoes, straight-line winds, blizzards, etc. (all of which we have), hail generates more property damage costs than the next three combined. The hailstorms aren't quite as vicious in or near the mountains because the terrain disrupts the thermals, but not many roofs east of I-25 die of old age.

I have personally seen softball sized hail in north Texas and got a new roof and skylight out of it. Insurance companies were totaling nearly new cars due to every single body panel and piece of glass needing full replacement. For a couple of weeks after, while mowing, I was finding small rodents - e.g., field mice - dead in the yard, killed by the hail.
