I generally disagree with folks who claim a clue is "negbait", but I would be open to arguments in this case. I knew it, thanks to this FJ from many many years ago, but with "Utah" right there in the clue, you'd be hard pressed to guess anything but what the 3 contestants did.

Tacking "in California" after "university" would do a better job at pointing the players to the right response, although I suspect if you don't know it, you don't get it.

I work at Sanford Medical Center here in Sioux Falls, so my problem is not mixing up Stanford/Sanford/Stamford/Samford, all of which are things. I thought carefully and got it right.

I went wrong on the 50-50-90 (When you have a 50-50 choice, you get it wrong 90% of the time). If Utah's not in the clue, I get it right. --Bob

Aaron turned an uncommon phrase in addressing Danielle at DD2, "You are from worst to first."

Aw, the players are too young to make a non-Frozen Elsa connection to a clue. :(

Aaron demonstrated a lot of competent skill in hosting these two weeks, but I have him third behind Johnny & Alex for reading lyrics straight in clues. I'll admit to chuckling for the "Friday" one.

Patrick had a decent end game to go from 3rd after DD2 to being able to survive a miss on the FJ! clue from the lead.

The FJ! category had me off with my precalls of Rockefeller, Ford & Hearst.

The FJ! clue gave me a pen down no-doubter with no time wasted thinking about it anymore. One of the best ways to prepare of the show? Watch the show.

A couple of relevant prior FJ! clue:
Spoiler

#8021, aired 2019-06-24 COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES: Starting a university after his only son died in 1884, this man said, "The children of California shall be our children"
#2383, aired 1995-01-04 UNIVERSITIES: The golden spike removed after the May 10, 1869 ceremony is now at this university
Of course the popular miss today will be a poll option. Non-J! TV can help as Hell on Wheels would have assisted in avoiding the wrong name.

Patrick was the best of the three players today though was clearly vulnerable to either opponent solving the FJ! clue. New guest host next week to see if Patrick can reach a 4th win.

Anderson Cooper has prior hosting experience here on CNN if you don't want to wait until Monday for a taste:
Spoiler
Like Chef Ramsay, Anderson can have different TV personas depending on the program. Anderson can be funny, goofy, stern, opinionated, playful and quirky. My hope and expectation is he picks the right demeanor for hosting J! From watching The Mole to NYE with Kathy Griffin then Andy Cohen, to Celebrity J! to Live with Kelly to 60 Minutes, I've seen a lot of TV moxie. Anderson has the pipes, looks and skills to do a good job.

Aaron Rodgers is welcome by me to leave the football field sooner than later. As for hosting J! permanently, I'm not completely convinced, while I was impressed enough over 10 games to now imagine it's possible.

The 10-day total for the charity: $236,725

The best argument is the footnote about Young's life that he was an early investor in Union Pacific for the construction of the First Transcontinental Railroad. I didn't know this about Young until just now, when I learned it trying to bolster your negbait argument. I confess that Young was my first thought, too, but I quickly moved on to Stanford as having been deeply associated with railroads, and in particular, president of two railroads even while carrying on his political career. Between the two, Stanford seemed the more obvious choice.

Interesting FJ clue. Everybody knows where the golden spike was driven. But the fact that seemingly superfluous word is staring you right in the face is really going to hamstring your thought process.

The week is complete: https://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=6999

Odometer goes to game id=7000 for the next one entered

Lots of LT available if you solve the FJ! clue and want to win from the 4th podium. Shy for me with 8600.

And yet again, blank screen on FJ! for me.

Aaron was very good as a host.

My first thought was Young but thought he was dead by then and didn’t actually found BYU. He was still alive but it seems he didn’t directly create BYU. I think I had heard this about Stanford before so I got it right. I did get a chuckle from Aaron’s last FJ being about a school “Cal beats all the time”.

Is this the first time the upcoming host was mentioned the Friday before the host’s first episode?

I was really surprised by Aaron. It came across as an odd choice and thought his first episode was terrible. But he quickly grew into the role and I wouldn’t object to him getting the full time gig. Though as a part owner of his current employer, I hope he keeps his day job for a few more years.

Looking forward to Cooper. I have enjoyed his other work and I think he will do well as guest host. Despite his high society breeding, he doesn’t come across as taking himself too seriously.

I definitely agree that it was negbaity and it almost caught me, but I realized Stanford had more to do with railroads than Young, so I made the switch.

It'll be on the poll later, but I would easily put Rodgers as the #2 host so far, just barely behind Ken.

I was so gassed to get this Final, not only to give myself a 4/5 for the week, but also because I didnt fall for the negbait.

Did anyone else immediately celebrate that they got it right just after the first "Who is Brigham Young?" was ruled incorrect? I had a big fist pump after Dakota's judgement.

DISSECTING THE LYRICS was a funny category for me as I clammed on the more "modern" music clues at $1200 and $1600, but as soon as they went with the 80s/90s hair band for $2000, I was back in my element with a no-doubt correct response.

I was careful to dodge the negbait in FJ and went with Stanford. I understand how Young might have been present at the ceremony but it doesn't make sense that he would have been the one driving in the spike. I knew that Stanford was the head of one of the railroads. Utah did not become a state for another 27 years.

Something seemed fishy about the Champ's story about not learning to drive. I looked up Stoneham High School on the map. It's deep in a residential neighborhood with no transit access. If he grew up a hundred yards from there, he would have seriously needed to be able to drive.

Or maybe he was born there and then grew up someplace with Transit.

You're seriously underestimating pedestrians in the Boston area. Anything under about 2 miles could be considered "walking distance."

runs: History on Ice, Birds, Blowpourri, Native Americans,
DDs: :D :D :D
trash: Northwest Passage DD, Birdseye, grouse, Carpathians, Nelson (6200)
FJ: Who is Stanford? instaget. 5/5  How did all 3 go for Brigham Young?
Flash-freezing food should be a Pavlov for Birdseye. :geek:
Shoulda got bodega. I always thought it was a word borrowed from Hispanics for "convenience store". :|
Also fell for in utero. :x

Instaget FJ. Brigham Young never occurred to me, but as someone who recalls the Stanford students voting for a new mascot of “Robber Baron” when their old mascot was retired, I wasn’t likely to miss this one. I wonder how pained the Cal alum Aaron Rodgers must have been reading that answer aloud

Extremeley negbaity, but still a good FJ. If you know the difference between the golden spike and the Golden Plates, you might interpret the FJ as intentionally misleading you toward a Mormon leader like Brigham Young. (I wasn't able to figure that out, but I can see that in retrospect.)

Instaget FJ, thanks to the old John McKeon game entered last year.

I was an Aaron critic when he first started, but he grew into the spot very well. I'd probably put him behind Ken in my rankings.
