Geeze that's rough. I am sure people will have a nice big argument tonight.
Personally, I think it should be accepted. They've accepted worse before.

Re: Thursday, May 13, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Bill had good reason to deliver a comment after a correct response about a 60 Minutes correspondent and he came through in the moment.
Susan's chat story about being taught to swim by Neil Armstrong's wife is a winner that can get you through an audition as working in "one small step" is perfect.
Nursery rhymes can be so funny for stumping players as you never know what might not be in the right area for contestants while home viewers pick up the trash for Old King Cole's musicians.
The FJ! category looked like a good one for me and the clue did not disappoint as I matched Amanda while never being in danger of matching Matt. Not that I needed the help but I looked at the USA Today's bestseller list less than an hour before the show.
Tough break for Susan not being able to capitalize on leading. It's the kind of clue that if you don't know it then good luck guessing it with many options to go astray. An even tougher break for Matt not quite having the correct title and leaving host & judges no choice but to neg it.
Amanda has a 1+3 for position entering the FJ! round so put her down for a 2 tomorrow.

I can see the argument that they should've accepted it, but the fact that it's a title makes me lean in the other direction.Armandillo wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 1:39 pm Geeze that's rough. I am sure people will have a nice big argument tonight.

They've accepted worse??
EDIT: Though if they're gonna do that, they should also require the comma and exclamation point.

Re: Thursday, May 13, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Today's most egregious captioning error:
The Tunnel ($400):
From Paris' Gare du Nord you can catch a train through this 31-mile engineering marvel
Obviously The Chunnel, I knew it, you knew it, the contestant knew it. But the captioner just said "What is a tunnel?"
And here's a weird thing: During FJ, watch when they go from the contestant on the left (ultimate winner), to the guy in the middle. His answer and wager were already displayed on his screen, before BW even got to him.

Re: Thursday, May 13, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Oops. I went for his first book, not his last.
When they caption something like J!, do they watch through the whole show or do they only get the parts that need captioning? I'm guessing they get the whole thing, but maybe if it was just the relevant parts, they wouldn't have the context. I mean, 80% of J! doesn't need captioning.

Man, oh man, that is about as "Ooooooh, sorry" as it gets right there. I was able to get there from the "last Dr. Seuss book" angle, and thankfully included the correct contraction, and the exclamation point to boot.

Re: Thursday, May 13, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
runs: TV to Film , Pies, Daily Triple, Numbering Books, Deadly Sins, Science, History
(a perfecto in the J! round )
DDs: (WAG)
trash: Fiddlers 3, Equifax, Uranium, Bo Diddley, Al Pacino (4600)
FJ: What is "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" instaget.
Kudos for not having a Warrant reference on the cherry pie clue
So 3 J!-class players don't know Diddley...
A good run in Opera for Susan to get the lead, too bad she couldn't capitalize on the final.

I can only imagine how the J! FB page is blowing up over this decision, but —yup— it’s a title. I was pretty sure what his last book was, and the Spring hint helped cinch it.

I said pink collar. Judges?
LOL, just LOL at beer keeping industrial workers alert.
LOL, just LOL at Taiwan being connected by bridge to Mainland China.
Interesting that The Untouchables came up in both single and double jeopardy.
Interesting that Bo Diddley came up when there was a category about nothing. Diddly means nothing. Scratch, nada, nil, bupkis.
I'm not sure Calvin's should have been accepted. I think that called for a b m s.
I knew that the two tunnels to New Jersey are the Lincoln the Holland & the clue was obviously going for Holland.

This is a great point. If they are going to ask the contestants to have the correct title (and they should), this should include punctuation. But maybe avoid asking about this particular book.ACW wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 2:39 pmI can see the argument that they should've accepted it, but the fact that it's a title makes me lean in the other direction.Armandillo wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 1:39 pm Geeze that's rough. I'm sure "Calvin Klein" would have been accepted, but I can see why they accepted just plain Calvin's -- it's a direct quote from the ad.floridagator wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 10:11 pm I'm not sure Calvin's should have been accepted. I think that called for a b m s.
I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.

I'd say no; pink collar work includes secretarial work, which occurs in offices, but the term is more expansive than that (i.e. child care).

Misspelled responses have to pass the soundalike test. Punctuation doesn't affect pronunciation.Woppy T wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 10:18 pmThis is a great point.
