Since Amanda wanted a tunnel from Hong Kong to Taiwan and puts Ukraine in Asia, I'm thinking geography might be a personal weakness.

Re: Friday, May 14, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Amanda opened with a run of POP CULTURE to earn applause. The lock was not always in place as after each DD there was no runaway.
Kristen needed 700 more to avoid Amanda sewing up the match. DD3 was once bitten and twice shy with 4000+2400 following up the previous 3400-3400. Once again Amanda could have been defeated yet things worked out well enough to defend the title.
The FJ! category had me narrow my brain warm-ups by concentrating on the South American capitals for a limited area with nothing real obscure or hard to recall.
The FJ! clue had me not knowing where to throw a dart geographically and instead I tried to think of new capitals. I wrote Hanoi and did not like that for westernmost. I got as far as writing Islam and did not finish. I thought about Myanmar. I wondered if I should Middle East. I must have used up all my luck in getting the 4/26 FJ! clue.
Amanda was able to survive being the outlier on a 2/3 and will see if she can continue her run with Mayim Bialik in charge on May 31.
$257,998 for Bill's charity is a nice chunk of change for one of the positive aspects of this slate of guest hosts.
Justin came in third though did get to have his moment with a James all-in.

What was the point of the "less than 100 years" part? Pretty much every national capital in that part of the world would satisfy that condition.

Didn't realize how far west Ankara was and I went with Jerusalem (which it about 135 mi E of Ankara).

I was wondering that too. I was speculating if that was a clue toward Jerusalem (and I was a little concerned with Istanbul being a recent FJ answer), but stuck with the correct answer nonetheless.goforthetie wrote: ↑Fri May 14, 2021 3:59 pm What was the point of the "less than 100 years" part? CC strikes again: "What is billings?" [lowercase], "Who is going Gwyneth Paltrow?" [an added random word], and no captions for the mole rat clue.

Not exactly a coin flip, but I did have to convince myself that Jerusalem was not the right answer.

I may be in the minority here, but that keyed me into 1922/23 -> Turkey.goforthetie wrote: ↑Fri May 14, 2021 3:59 pm What was the point of the "less than 100 years" part? Pretty much every national capital in that part of the world would satisfy that condition.

Re: Friday, May 14, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I think the best way to rule out Jerusalem is to recognize Jeopardy isn’t going to ask a contestant to choose between that and Beirut as far as westernmost. Therefore neither can be correct.

Re: Friday, May 14, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I had a few dumb and costly responses today. For A CALL ON THE HOMOPHONE for $1000, I said "egg". After "phase/faze" was ruled correct, I thought my response was perfectly acceptable, until I realized there's no homophone, just different definitions of the same word. Bleh.
Then in THE "BLACK" for $2000, I fell for the trap and said Black Hawk, who is a person and not a tribe. Hopefully, if I were playing against Amanda, she would have out-buzzed me and saved me 3k
At least I navigated FJ correctly and will be able to click Saturday's brag box

Amanda rebounded from the last game (or her opponents weren’t as fast on the buzzer) and got the lock. Good for her since she didn’t get a gimme of a FJ

There's also the factor of there being a wide international dispute over whether Jerusalem is in fact the capital, which the show probably wishes to avoid controversy over (especially after the weird controversy over the Bethlehem clue a year or two ago).

And one more... they mashed up "to" roles.
And the missing captions on Mole Rat really got to me. Hard to play a clue when you don't know what they're (or is it "there" ) asking.
