Re: Thursday, May 20, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Full credit roll.
Ben could not hear all of us across the country yelling the correct response to DD2.
Kevin solved DD1 and DD3 to put himself in position to bet zero and survive missing the FJ! clue.
This game did not go according to Hoyle as I thought it may have and I'm glad to see surprises in the tourney.
MacKenzie still has a chance for a wildcard with a game to go thanks to betting nothing and we'll see how it goes tomorrow. Nibir can now finish no worse than WC4 and Jason is locked for WC 1, 2 or 3.
The FJ! clue is the hardest of the week as two-parters will often cause more trouble.
The FJ! category had me thinking it could be colony founders like Roger Williams or Oglethorpe.
The FJ! clue had me correctly place the line by the right two states. From there it was guess the names. Buzzy only gave one variant for the Lord and I went a different way with a family name instead of a city.
The J! Fan has George or Cecil to match the last name. Should I go with that for the archive or only stick with what Buzzy said.
For the poll I'm counting myself correct even though I did not specify a last name.

I loved MacKenzie's STUPID ANSWERS-style FJ! response but I loved her wager even more and I hope it holds up.

No strong opinion but probably err on the side of "go with what was said on the show".MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Thu May 20, 2021 1:49 pm The J! Fan has George or Cecil to match the last name. Should I go with that for the archive or only stick with what Buzzy said.
Especially for old episodes, comparing the FJ! Resource with the extra information given verbally on the show is an interesting exercise in discovering what Alex had on his paper in front of him versus what he decided to announce on air.

Re: Thursday, May 20, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
From Asimov's Words from History, natch. 0/4, and I'm getting a little worried. Even on the toughest tournements, I generally get a couple. Thus, in 1763, Pennsylvania and Maryland hired two English surveyors, Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon, to mark off the exact east-west line whichnwas to serve as the boundary between those twonststes.
(Even knowing the states, I way not have made the jump to the names. Without the states, though, it becomes nearly impossible to guess.)

Coryat: $23,200
33 R (2 DDs), 7 W. Horrible game on my part, lot of careless negs; Tallahassee instead of Gainesville, Duoro thinking of the Duomo instead of a curia, NHOI until today.
FJ: Stayed in Pennsylvania for some reason, said Penn & Franklin. Probably could've gotten it had I thought a little bit more.
LT: Danbury (thanks John Oliver!), Love Field, Leyte Gulf

I had Penn and Calvert. I did consider Baltimore but I figured out what they wanted very late and scribbled Calvert so quickly it was illegible.Robert K S wrote: ↑Thu May 20, 2021 1:40 pm Poll request: I got the first guy but not the second guy, and/or variants
Gutsy move standing pat by McKenzie but it paid off with her miss.

I said Calvert too. My understanding is that Calvert is the family name, Baltimore is the title.Bamaman wrote: ↑Thu May 20, 2021 5:47 pmI had Penn and Calvert. I had it between the wrong states: Lords Baltimore and de la Warr.

Got it. But helps I live in PA and drove down to DC twice this week.
I did say Lord Baltimore because I was less certain on spelling of Calvert. No clue if they are one and the same.
What’s the current wild card scores?

Re: Thursday, May 20, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I was surprised that Buzzy said who the three previous winners were at the beginning. I felt that could potentially provide some information, notably, that Jason had not won his game, and that potentially the wild card cutoff could be a little higher.
As far as Lord Baltimore vs. De La Warr, I knew that Delaware was named after the river, not the individual, which I believe helped me dismiss Delaware when I was considering him vs. Baltimore.

The river was named after the person, so it could still be his crest.
