Strange that it took three tries to get the artery clue and players in 2021 would make me happier if they knew things like who wrote Parallel Lives.

Courtney was 3rd place today for Coryat and buzzer and it was the right spot to finish in first with the TS FJ! clue. Sometimes a sweep the week can be spotted on the Monday and be no surprise by Friday. This time was not as easy to predict and the path does not matter. Courtney won all five and gets to go to the ToC. Well on the feat.

$79,258 for five wins had me curious about others around that range (Spoiler to shorten length of post):
Spoiler

Going by ToC order
Travis Troyer $83,100
Ben Tritle $78,600
Mark Brown $68,094
Bob Mesko $68,599
Celeste DiNucci $83,601
Matt Kohlstedt $77,803
Lisa Klink $70,150
Stefan Goodreau $84,870
Kara Spak $83,401
Kristin Morgan $69,098
Paul Nelson $54,900
Rani Peffer $68,701
Gilbert Collins $84,201
Rachel Lindgren $75,999
Courtney may end up on Bronze, but she's in the 15 for what matters.

The FJ! category had me try a few precalls of "Macarena", "Bette Davis Eyes" & "Hey Jude".

The FJ! clue had me write the right title as I knew nothing that could fit better. I was not sure and even considered the other side in case something hit me for Ford. I guess I should have had my pen down from the start since I knew the composer as well as the 1960 artist. Where I was lacking in knowledge was The Band, but there is nothing that says I have to be up on all four hints in the clue. Three was sufficient.

Nanci gained the lead on DJ! 30 not that it did her any good. Credit to her for overcoming losing the farm on DD1 and not betting for the lead on DD3 to still be in first after 60 clues.

If it was an easier clue then McKenzie could have had multiple regrets between her neg fest and not doing more with DD2.

Sarah McNitt also won five games with $89,398.

Yes, and there are others up in that level. My list was not comprehensive for under six figures as I wanted to limit it a bit for a little closer to Courtney's amount.

I even thought of Georgia on my Mind, but then dismissed it because why would a Presidential candidate use a state song for a national election? Oh well.

I remember during the 2020 election when Georgia was one of the last states to count the votes, Georgia On My Mind was trending across Reddit and YouTube lol. Timeless masterpiece for sure.
sup, i'm bliss.

Though he went on to be a 7-day champ, check out Tim Aten games 4 and 5:

4x - 71,300
5x - +7,999 - 79,299 - Tim also won that game on a TS, but his from the lead instead of third. Lots of similarities there.

Courtney strikes me as the type of player that will slip past all of us and into the ToC semis - she seems to do well near the bottom of the board. Congrats for running the week!

As for me, FJ = '76 -> Carter -> a song about Georgia I guess? -> Correct, with enough LT to be a 4th podium winner. I'll salvage my week with 3/5.
J! S39 - 1/27-2/1. '24 ToC ???

I have wondered how Courtney would do in the category of "FJ Wagering" if she ever went into final in third instead of in a commanding lead. Turns out she passed the test commendably. Many congrats to the champ on an excellent 5-days-in-a-week sweep.

Meanwhile we had a clean sweep of all three contestants beginning their interview stories with that damned unnecessary "So...." I keep wondering whether anyone even notices how that abomination has crept into our language?

FJ? I first thought (and started writing" "Happy Days are Here Again," thinking of FDR's theme song. Then I woke up and read "1976 presidential campaign," switched to Carter, and came up with "Georgia on My Mind" with about 0.5 seconds to spare before the "bomp-bomp!" I'll take it.

runs:. Famous Names (easy $ for the taking), Not Real Phrases, 3's Company
DDs:. :D :D :D
trash:. Kublai Khan, Van Gogh, Plutarch :o , Tesla DD, Bay of Fundy, Asimov (7k)
FJ:. WAGged "This Land Is Your Land". Thought The Band had broke up long before '76. :(
Had Rotterdam for Haarlem, going for alliteration.

The Bay of Fundy, between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, is known for having the highest range between high and low tide, and the clue referenced the 100 billion gallons moved daily.

I wish I was able to get a 4th Podium win this game, but I just could not parse the Haarlem clue and I completely blanked on puffball. Though other than that, a 50+ game for me and a FJ get felt great.

Was a facepalm moment when the answer to Final Jeopardy was revealed. The only thing that occurred to me was Sweet Georgia Brown.

I think it's reasonable to be more lenient on idioms, and googling with the phrase in quotes, "burning the midnight oil" gets 587,000 hits compared to 142,000 for "burning the night oil", so within the same order of magnitude.

On the other hand, Baskin & Robbins is not the name of the company and is flat wrong and should have been corrected later if not negged immediately. The Archive should also note this as an erratum, in my opinion.

Yep, it's not exactly Ben and Jerry. Every episode has had one or two of these.

I didn't until you brought it up before...so thanks a lot for that! I had so forgotten it, now I'll hear it again at least every so once in a while....Not that it bothers me so much. It was good enough for Fitzgerald to end The Great Gatsby: “So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”
I was more struck by the incoherence of Nancy's interview - SG (hey, same initials as last week!) asked her about having a God Chicken and she answered by giving the names of her co-worker's birds. I worry that by changing the subject she's covering up some cosmic truth!

I get a sense that some folks have never heard of the movie "A Rage in Harlem" (1991).
I was expecting some sort of show tune for the FJ clue. All I could think of was "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes." (Written in '33 for a show, a number 1 hit in 1959 for The Platters. And Carter used to support the tobacco industry!) I didn't remember that GoMM was so old...

When was the last time "a change in scoring" was announced? It seems like it's been ages. I think they usually want to keep the momentum going. No stopping for nuance!
