TD 461: No theme (FINAL RESULTS)

Post by Ironhorse »

I haven't hosted in awhile but in the interest of hopefully reviving interest in TDs, I put together an unthemed game. I hope everyone enjoys.

Rules/Notes
1) Lowest point total wins; your score for each question is equal to the total number of players submitting that same answer
2) You may use one drop and take zero points for one question
3) You may elect to take the "sheep" (most popular) answer for one question
4) Wrong responses are the "sheep" answer +3
5) 10 correct answers (not including the bonus to question 3) without using a sheep/drop will result in a bonus of -3 points.
6) All answers are due by 6 PM Eastern time on Wednesday, July 21, 2021
7) Submit your answers here: https://forms.gle/4HyAAqaVQxLrwT5o6
8) No cheating (Google, etc)

1. Name a property on the standard US Monopoly board with a US state in its name.

2. In honor of my daughters, both of whose names begin with C, identify one of these "CC" terms:

In her first hit single, Katy Perry referenced the taste of this item
Game show whose American version is hosted by Ben Bailey
Matching game released in 2011; subsequently developed into a mobile game with nearly 3 billion downloads
Intersection that serves as the point from which distances from London are measured.
American pro sports team that announced a name change in 2021, only to quickly reverse course after heavy fan backlash
Fictional animal character associated with an 1865 book and a 1951 animated film adaptation, though the term predates both
Toy similar to the GI-Joe that appears in the Toy Story films; one is blown up by Sid early in the first movie
Nu-metal band formed in California in 1993; biggest hits were “Loco” and a cover of “Shock the Monkey”
FCC rules strictly govern these being made by incarcerated individuals, including setting a rate of 25 cents per minute and requiring identification at the beginning
The full title of Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse Five references this unusual and ill-fated attempt to capture Jerusalem

3. Mystery theme:

The fourth of the nine books in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House series
Rock supergroup matching Scott Weiland with several members of Guns ‘N Roses
Actor and comedian known for sophomoric humor and his brief marriage to Drew Barrymore
2000 New York Times bestseller written by Anthony Bourdain
California stadium demolished in 2015
1978 Best Picture winner (starring Woody Allen)
Beatles song appearing after Sun King and before Polythene Pam on Abbey Road
Deceptively passive boxing technique used by Muhammad Ali in the “Rumble in the Jumble”

“They call me Mr. Tibbs” is an iconic line from this 1967 film
Superhero identity assumed by Dick Grayson after leaving his role of Robin
1966 Frank Sinatra song that he later described as “the worst… song I’ve ever heard”

Thank you, I may take you up on that. This way anybody can still enter. We are low on entrants thus far so it shouldn't be too bad.

I'm so used to seeing these written both ways (1978 Academy Awards for movies released in 1977), that it's become completely transparent. There are certain situations where real ambiguity can be created, but this is not really one of them.
Spoiler
I don't know. Should I pull the trigger? I mean, I know those are the rules and all, but I'm just not sure. Did I give the cylinder a good, full spin? Is this a risk I'm willing to take? I just don't know how I can be expected to decide.

Apologies for the delay, but here we go!

1. Name a property on the standard US Monopoly board with a US state in its name.

A trio of sheeps start us out, with all but one of the possibilities used.

Illinois Avenue - 3 (co-sheep)
floridagator, clprez, lefty

Kentucky Avenue - 3 (co-sheep)
gamawire, casketromance, beansandcornbread

Pennsylvania Avenue - 3 (co-sheep)
twelvefootboy, threearruda, Rackme32

North Carolina Avenue - 2
Leander, merica

Pennsylvania Railroad - 2
AFRET CMS, mahatma

Vermont Avenue - 2
MarkBarrett, Peachbox

Singletons:

B&O Railroad - Woof (note: the O stands for Ohio)

Connecticut Avenue - heppm01

Indiana Avenue - clt013

New York Avenue - econgator

Virginia Avenue - squarekara

Drop: MattKnowles
Unused: Tennessee Avenue

2. In honor of my daughters, both of whose names begin with C, identify one of these "CC" terms:

In her first hit single, Katy Perry referenced the taste of this item Cherry chapstick
Game show whose American version is hosted by Ben Bailey Cash Cab
Matching game released in 2011; subsequently developed into a mobile game with nearly 3 billion downloads Candy Crush
Intersection that serves as the point from which distances from London are measured. Charing Cross/City Center
American pro sports team that announced a name change in 2021, only to quickly reverse course after heavy fan backlash Columbus Crew
Fictional animal character associated with an 1865 book and a 1951 animated film adaptation, though the term predates both Cheshire Cat
Toy similar to the GI-Joe that appears in the Toy Story films; one is blown up by Sid early in the first movie Combat Carl
Nu-metal band formed in California in 1993; biggest hits were “Loco” and a cover of “Shock the Monkey” Coal Chamber
FCC rules strictly govern these being made by incarcerated individuals, including setting a rate of 25 cents per minute and requiring identification at the beginning Collect calls
The full title of Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse Five references this unusual and ill-fated attempt to capture Jerusalem Children's Crusade

The lyrics of "I Kissed A Girl" readily came to mind for several of you:

Cherry chapstick - 4 (sheep)
squarekara, clprez, threearruda, MarkBarrett

Children's Crusade - 3
gamawire, MattKnowles, Leander

Columbus Crew - 3
clt013, merica, mahatma

Collect calls - 3
floridagator, twelvefootboy, AFRET CMS

Charing Cross - 2 (note: I also accepted City Center as I found at least one source suggesting it as the part of London distances are measured from)
Peachbox, Woof

Cash Cab - 2
Rackme32, econgator

Cheshire Cat - 2
Lefty, beansandcornbread

Drop: casketromance
Incorrect: heppm01 (Closed captions)
Unused: Coal Chamber, Combat Carl, Candy Crush

3. Mystery theme:

The fourth of the nine books in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House series On the Banks of Plum Creek

Deceptively passive boxing technique used by Muhammad Ali in the “Rumble in the Jungle” Rope-a-dope
1973 hit song for The Sweet; featured in Wayne’s World Ballroom Blitz

Perhaps Muhammad Ali's strategy is being tried here as well, trying to tire those sheep out early? (I just realized I made a minor typo on that question on the original post, but based on it sheeping, it looks like it didn't trip everybody up.)

Rope-a-dope - 5 (sheep)
twelvefootboy, beansandcornbread, clprez, merica, AFRET CMS

Velvet Revolver - 4
MattKnowles, Woof, casketromance, threearruda

Candlestick Park - 3

Mean Mr. Mustard - 1 (singleton!)
Lefty

Ballroom Blitz - 1 (singleton!)
mahatma

3b: For a -1 point bonus, what do all of the above have in common? (No penalty for an incorrect guess)

All of these are terms in the game of Clue, either referencing weapons, suspects, or rooms. I was fairly lenient here, accepting any guesses mentioning the game. The following players receive the bonus:

MarkBarrett
Gamawire
Peachbox
clt013
Floridagator
AFRET CMS
Woof
MattKnowles
Casketromance

You could have gone to the World's Fair. They have a tower called the sunsphere. And in that sunsphere is an information desk. If the sunsphere collapses and wrecks your car, you can always get a job as an air courier. Eventually the Oak Ridge laboratory will need to ship something huge to your hometown, and then you can just stow away inside.
I'd rather cuddle then have sex. If you're into grammar, you'll understand.
