Re: Thursday, July 15, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth."
By the end of the game I was thinking of this quote as Andre's opening pick was a $1,000 clue. Andre built up a 4800 to 800 to minus 200 lead before missing DD1 and from there not a lot went his way.
Judith was more a tortoise to Andre's hare and a little more wagered on DD3 could have allowed Judith to capitalize more on the TS FJ! clue.
I'm keeping the clue at 0% as my thinking went from sorting which of Huck Finn/Tom Sawyer to guess to writing Sancho (will be a poll choice) Panza.
Spinnerets is a word I've seen before, but could not place in time. I should have taken more time on the word, but I lost time at the beginning as to me the clue required more than one reading to process I needed a secondary character not part of the book's title.
Tyler did enough to earn the win while participating in an ugly 26000 Combined Coryat contest.
It seems strange that George has one game left and then it will already be time to rate him and move on to the next guest host.

Dang it! Wouldn't trying to show up Charlotte, only to be scolded by her, be such a Templeton thing? (Is that Paul Lynde's voice I hear?)
Pretty funny to see how far-off the contestants' guesses were.

I thought Tyler was going to bet a little more on DD2.
Andre is obviously a Simpsons fan with his response "The Little Barbershop of Horrors."

Percival Lowell 'saw' canals on Mars, but not on Venus.
The lines he reported on Venus were called 'spokes'.

Oof, should have been a win from 2nd if not for needlessly leaving behind $3200 on DD3. Only real reason to leave anything behind there is if 2nd place is super important to you. So then what do you do on Final? Bet every last dollar when saving as little as $200 locks up $2000. Sigh.

Essentially, "do you know what spinnerets are"?

Darn it, I was going to ask the judges here if "Who is some pig?" was acceptable!MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 2:43 pm Some game! https://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=7089
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.
Latest movies (1-10): Everything Everywhere All at Once (10), Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken (6), Black Sunday /1960/ (6), Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (7)

"Spinnerets" meant nothing to me. I could only think of "spinets," which led me to music and nowhere, essentially. Would it have been that much easier if Children's Books was the category?? I actually read Charlotte's Web a few years ago, since it was something I missed as a child . Watched the Debbie Reynolds movie, too. Didn't memorize them, though...

43R. 4/4 on big clues. For FJ my brain fumbled into Spinnerets-->Loom-->Spider-->Wilbur. It's better to be lucky than talented.
4th podium win was available but I missed out on it.
Lots of misses and some bad misses for me today. Said thanology instead thanatology. Said Winter Soldier instead of Summer Soldier. I blame MCU for both of those. Bodice instead of corset. Shrews instead of squirrels. Joanna instead of Joanne.
To help my consistent weak categories I picked up a copy of Tim Gunn's Fashion Bible and a copy of the Bible SparkNotes. Made it through Chapter 1 and through Genesis respectively. Corset is covered in Chapter 1 (underwear) but none of the Bible clues were from Genesis today. I'm on the right track but I need a couple more hours in the day.
Some clues that I missed that I want to get next time are Patti Smith, Samuel, Elijah, penology, and Thomas Paine / The Rights of Man. I'll need to note not to get that one confused with the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen.

I had a dream that I was asleep and then I woke up and Jeopardy! was on.

It is amazing how many contestants turn a basic win into a loss. But so many just telegraph the fact they would never play to win in a WW scenario.jeff6286 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 8:50 pm Oof, should have been a win from 2nd if not for needlessly leaving behind $3200 on DD3. Yep, this does seem to be the case, and unfortunately I did not.
This game had some howlers in it to say the least: Orpheus instead of Morpheus, Dubai when asked for a wealthy CAPITAL, Barbershop instead of just Shop, and then finishing it off with Pancho Villa for what I can only hope was supposed to be Sancho Panza. Yikes.

Sancho Panza was my first thought, until I guessed or remembered what spinnerets were. They sounded like they might be useful for combating windmills.BrigadierSolo13 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 16, 2021 12:23 am and then finishing it off with Pancho Villa for what I can only hope was supposed to be Sancho Panza. Spinnerets sounded nautical and I headed to seaward novels. Before long I realized I conflated it with spinnaker and reset my search. Best I could come up with was Sancho Panza, with misgivings.
