Grab your popcorn as today is going to be quite a day reading online posts.

LeVar Burton got his shot. He's lucky he has four more tries as the first attempt was less than smooth. If Matt could have just spit out the name on the Panama clue it would have helped a lot.

Besides host business there is Patrick finishing at minus 7400. Ouch, what a nightmare.

Matt led by 11400 after the J! round. All the credit to Kathleen for making Matt show up in the FJ! round despite her losing 3000 on DD3. That was one to take DD time on and read the clue twice to take it all in.

Why did Matt only gain 4000 in the DJ! round? Buzzer, knowledge, host, Kathleen, Patrick's misses... Something was off today.

Tomorrow has to be better and at least the show ended with the double get on the FJ! clue. I matched the players as there was enough in the clue to lead directly to the right person with no distractions.

Matt is looking good for the ToC whenever it is held. I would think the show would know it too and even if Matt loses tomorrow, just cinch up the field before he is eliminated.

Good for her getting back in the game when I thought she was done for after missing the DD. Facing a strong champ like Matt, she probably should have gone all in there. As it is, she still loses if she gets the DD about an election she was likely eligible to vote in.

Instaget FJ.

Levar’s voice and cadence annoyed me. Granted it was his first game, but he did a poor job on Noriega.

Is minus $7400 a record? The lowest previous score I'm aware of is minus $6800:

In the post-doubled era, I believe so. But in one of the first seasons someone had about -$5100 which would translate to -$10200 today. Her episode was put on YT a while ago but not sure if it's in the archive yet.

That was the worst game of Jeopardy! I've ever seen. And I've seen 1000+.
My lucky numbers are 6, 66, and 666.

Agreed. I had a lot of problems tracking the clues as he read them, especially in the Jeopardy round. Something in his reading was throwing me off. IMO worst first game performance of any of the guest hosts.

Ouch! Worst for Patrick, but not the worst game of all time by a mile

I always mess up astrolabe and sextant

I screamed on the Cher miss

Pretty sure Matt was in my first live audition back in 2017. My man got on before me ;)

1. I read an article yesterday anticipating Levar's shot at guest hosting. Said his first game was ragged (right) and that his wife "had a talk" with him between first and second game tapings and advised him to stop being whatever that was and start being himself. Also said he did so and reconstituted nicely. So let's see.

2. Someone farther down this thread says -$7,400 isn't nearly a record. What IS? (as if this wasn't bad enough. Woof)

3. I was also curious about how Matt's overwhelming lead after the first round didn't end up looking like his first two games, with lock games and huge scores. Who knows? But I was glad to see it turn out somewhat competitive and not a rout. And yeah, good on Kathleen for not melting into a puddle of goo in DJ.

4. Once in a long while, a little knowledge of Latin helps out. My only two LT items in the whole game were "sic" (semper tyrannis) and "urbi et orbi."

5. Matt is making huge inroads into the all-time list of regular season winners, now up to #62 with a bullet. You go, guy!

Lots of yummy trash for us today. Alex would have been disappointed to see Bogart go as a triple stumper, but I recognized the African Queen allusion and would have gotten it.

Went the wrong way on my guess for DD2, finding myself settling for Oman instead of Qatar. At least I said an actual country, and not "Abu Dhabi"

A fun moment for me: while looking up new trivia to make flashcards for, I'll have many tabs open on my phone with various names and places. One of the tabs I have open: Chloe Zhao. Easy $1200 for me. Other tabs I have open now: the Peacock Throne and Jules Massenet. Crossing my fingers they come up tomorrow :P

Based on the Jeopardy Facebook page, seems to be a deep split between those who thought he was terrible and those ready to name him permanent host.

What happened to the time’s up beeper?

It would be a nice touch if the host said "you won't be joining us for Final Jeopardy, but you'll be back for the closing chat!" Like the way they console 5-day+ champions when they finally go down to defeat. Of course, if Patrick were a celebrity, he'd have been converted to +7400, but that's his own life decisions catching up.

Imagine how different a world we might be living in if only Cher had a brother.
I'm smart and I want respect.

As already noted, it's a record, but not if you factor in dollar doubling, in which case Joan Kantor holds the record at -$10,200 adjusted. I'll have to do some editing of the J! Archive player pages.

LeVar should have done a lot more rehearsal and prep. I was expecting him to be the calm, in-command presence I'd remembered from Reading Rainbow. What happened to that guy? Here's to hoping he recovers and puts in a great performance over the next few shows.

Yes...Wasn't its absence the main reason for the confusion over Noriega? Matt's light had gone out, but the beep should be the dispositive signal, no?
I thought the closed caption Ratchet meant Kathleen was going to be ruled wrong on that - her final consonant did sound like a t - but I should have realized the CC doesn't work at that level of care anymore. Not that I think she should have been ruled wrong. It was ambiguous.
I was so irritated at Kathleen's going to the top of categories...at least Patrick didn't do that...but of course it helped her get that easy DD...which turned out to be not so easy...
