Re: Mike Richards OUT as host
I wonder if anyone asked Matt Amodio if he would be nervous with Ken Jennings watching from the audience.
I used to be AWSOP but wanted to be more theatrical.

As someone who is only one of those three things (overweight to be clear), I live with the understanding that much of the population will judge me on it, but I'd certainly feel less comfortable about going on the show with him as host.

The story would have been so much better if they'd been escorted from the sound stage and...well, put in front of a firing squad would be too much even for MR, but told to go home would have been a fitting addition to the articles of impeachment. The authoritarian era begins...! L'J!, c'est moi!

BTW, and come to think of it, "replacing" MR on the tape would be a very Soviet-style thing to do...

For those who are sad that they won't get to see any more of Mike Richards hosting game shows this life, this leaked gem was posted over at Golden-Road.net.

Are they service cats? Otherwise we're going to have to ask that they be left outside the studio.squarekara wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 3:31 pmFull-on 1890's two-piece cotton bathing costume with frilly cap and pantalettes. We're mixing up our régimes here, and maybe our villains and saints, but as long as we're having fun... (If it wasn't a J! fail, I wouldn't mention it, but it's "Corday"...)cthulhu wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 3:55 pmLessee…Ken “Marat” Jennings, Buzzy “Robespierre” Cohen, and…Mike “Charlotte Cordray” Richards, gone after four days five episodes?davey wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 3:36 pm The story would have been so much better if they'd been escorted from the sound stage and...well, put in front of a firing squad would be too much even for MR, but told to go home would have been a fitting addition to the articles of impeachment. Maybe others have a different opinion, but I think there are no highlights/lowlights. Watch one segment and you get the gist. It's a young Richards doing his best impression of a game show host. It's fun to imagine an alternate reality in which he got this job, never went on to make those offensive remarks in a podcast, and was never in a position to F up J!

He's the pro, and Ken and Buzzy are the amateurs? This makes LeVar look like an effing gladiator.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 3:01 pm https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/20/busi ... pardy.html
Afterward, the people said, Mr. Cohen and Mr. Jennings had expected to attend Mr. Richards’s debut taping. Instead, they were escorted from the sound stage to a nearby green room, where they watched the taping over a closed feed. They were told that Mr. Richards was too nervous to have them in the studio, the people said.
One of the people likened it to inviting Joe DiMaggio back to Yankee Stadium and then not letting him in the dugout.
Sony said that access to the taping was restricted because of pandemic protocols limiting the number of people in the studio. Mr. Vinciquerra did not attend the taping, either.

What a weak move.

So, basically what I am getting out of this is that Sony never had a Plan B. Richards had to be their first and only choice from the start.

Former contestant Dan D'Addario's op ed:
The Rise and Swift Fall of ‘Jeopardy’ Host Mike Richards
The Rise and Swift Fall of ‘Jeopardy’ Host Mike Richards
Richards’ tributes to Trebek feel especially hollow given just how quickly he’s thrown into disarray what Trebek spent his career helping to build. ... it’s hard not to feel a concerning sense that those in control of “Jeopardy” don’t understand what they have. ... the show has one of the most rock-solid formats in entertainment. “Jeopardy,” “60 Minutes,” “Saturday Night Live”: These are shows that could potentially run forever ... The importing of a Hollywood-slick smooth talker suggests that those in power at “Jeopardy” value the potential it has to be pushed to some hypothetical next level of entertainment [so much] that they don’t realize how easy it would be to destroy something that’s worked for decades.
Those in control include, still, Richards, who remains on as executive producer in a triumph of shamelessness. Time will tell if his appetite for reshaping a show in his own image persists. For now, though, he’s gotten a version of what he wanted: Richards is the biggest star of the franchise, and as the show rushes to pull together guest hosts for a disrupted new season, it’s his shadow that will fall over the proceedings.

I've got one with MR's name on it. Here's my old cameo from "The Simpsons":triviawayne wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 4:03 pmWhy? If I ever compete on one of his shows, I'm deliberately going dressed in a muu-muu and smelling of cat urine.

This was fascinating, thank you for sharing and to whomever posted it. The quote Claire pulled from Roger Dobkowitz was dead on, and still accurate fifteen years later. Knew what to say, but not enough personality to make it work. I felt the same watching his version of Pyramid years back, J! in February, and likely what I'll feel again watching week one.Robert K S wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 4:15 pmMaybe others have a different opinion, but I think there are no highlights/lowlights. I want Claire as the first interim host.

Of course it's "Corday", but maybe "Cordray" was intentional as a reference to politically prominent 5-time champion Richard Cordray?davey wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 4:01 pmWe're mixing up our régimes here, and maybe our villains and saints, but as long as we're having fun... Re: Mike Richards OUT as host
I see the LeVar promotion machine is out again in full force. If his legions of fans love him so much and want him as host, where were they during his week of episodes? Surely someone with that many fans would have had the highest viewership? Odd...
