At least LeVar gives a damn about the show.

Re: Mike Richards OUT as host
And now, sometime over the course of the day, all reference to the (original, unrelated) Randumb Show has been scrubbed from Richards' official website bio. That wasn't the case at least for the first half of the day.Robert K S wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 12:29 pm Within the last few seconds, between my multiple browser refreshes, the "host" label has been removed from Mike's bio on the official Jeopardy! website. Awkward two days' of work for the webmaster.
It's 9:30 A.M. Pacific time.

18:57 to begin the J! portion of the 8/19 (Click TMZ Live) show.
On today's 8/20 episode they talk about it more. It probably still airs in some places later today and I do not know if the full ep. will be available online tomorrow (it's always a day later) or not until Monday.

Re: Mike Richards OUT as host
LeVar Burton: How many of his fans are seriously going to watch Jeopardy long-term if he gets the show? How much of an audience is he going to add to the bottom line? The true answer is probably not much if any at all.
He is also 64 years old. That isn't "old" but the odds do go up that you will need to be doing this again sooner than you would want to.
Pick the best person for the job and let the game shine. I don't think he deserves the gig just because Twitter latched onto the idea.

I'm not a LeVar fan - he was near the bottom of my list - but his ratings (and board-favorite David Faber's ratings) were tanked by the Olympics. Any market where J! is aired on NBC had preemptions, or moved it to a subchannel.CailinGaoilge wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 5:47 pm I see the LeVar promotion machine is out again in full force. If his legions of fans love him so much and want him as host, where were they during his week of episodes? Surely someone with that many fans would have had the highest viewership? Odd...
Part of me wonders if Mike Richards had anything to do with that...

From the new old games thread.

I've been seeing a bunch of people on Facebook all day saying that they should just hire LeVar Burton. To every single one of these people I have asked both specifically and in a general Facebook post of my own "did you actually watch the games Burton hosted?" If not, they do not have all of the information to make a reasoned opinion on the subject. Only one person told me that she had and that she thought that Burton would grow with experience. I thanked her and told her that I respect her opinion because at least she has the information to reasonably make one.CailinGaoilge wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 5:47 pm I see the LeVar promotion machine is out again in full force. Re: Mike Richards OUT as host
I'm not sorry to see him out. He should be even further out - out of the EP job, too. If I were to make a guess, he was "allowed" to resign from the hosting job by TPTB at Sony in exchange for keeping the EP role. Given his known problems, I suspect that will last only until a new EP is found. Ken, anyone??? But more likely a promotion from within - one of the current senior staff would likely make an excellent choice as EP.
As to the upcoming season, I could easily see Ken stepping in for several weeks, along with Buzzy and Faber. Maybe they could even squeeze in Mayim for a week here and there as her other TV duties allow. I don't see the need for even more guest hosts. We've seen plenty, as has Sony. Or just make it a rotating host job among two to four people who were pretty good at it until Mayim is available permanently.

This is a bummer. I had high hopes he would be there a while. Commiserations to those scheduled to tape today.

Re: Mike Richards OUT as host
Yes, I don't understand this take that Burton deserves it and will "grow into it." He had his shot and he just wasn't very good. Why does he then deserve the job over others who actually nailed it? Since we're apparently going to get another round of guest hosts I'm all for giving him another shots, but not sure why he somehow deserves the job over everyone else who did much better.georgespelvin wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 9:50 pmI've been seeing a bunch of people on Facebook all day saying that they should just hire LeVar Burton. Right thing for the right reason for someone who never should have been considered for the job.

I watched his shows; having to shoot them all in one day must have been difficult. The editing didn't do him any favors, either. I'd like to see Burton do a two-week stint as guest host so he gets a chance to settle into the role.georgespelvin wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 9:50 pmI've been seeing a bunch of people on Facebook all day saying that they should just hire LeVar Burton.
