Re: Friday, September 24, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Matt lost the farm three times this week on DD1. I'm glad today's DD1 was not a FJ! clue as no way I figure that out in 30 seconds.
Yay, the right contestant got the Manderley clue.
Whether it's Matt, the writers, the host(s), ad space, etc. 10 games this season with no clues not seen. Thanks all around.
"Come on, shake your body, baby"... don't let '80s song go TS.
The FJ! category had me precall Wilson's 14 Points, Titanic, the Volstead Act, and Russia's October Revolution while figuring I was clear of having to see 1914 reminders since Franz Ferdinand was recent enough.
Thinking more about the category during the break I crossed off Titanic since 1912 would not work. In its place I changed to the correct name that did fit the category.
When I saw the clue it was a no-doubter since I would have guessed it if the clue was only "1915".
2 correct the whole game for Rebecca who was so unfortunate on the buzzer that she did not have to worry about setting a red record.
7-figures for Matt who could have been a boss and did his ciphering to land right on the million mark if he chose to do.

Congrats to Matt who now becomes only the fourth millionaire in Jeopardy history, and just the third in regular-play games!

Fourth or fifth? Not sure if Michael McKean winning the Million Dollar Celebrity Invitational for charity counts.CasualJeopardyFan19 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 24, 2021 1:54 pm Congrats to Matt who now becomes only the fourth millionaire in Jeopardy history, and just the third in regular-play games!
Either way, it's an incredible milestone, and I'm excited to see more.

If we count celebrities, there are probably quite a few Jeopardy! millionaires!Jurimetrician wrote: ↑Fri Sep 24, 2021 3:34 pm Fourth or fifth? Not sure if Michael McKean winning the Million Dollar Celebrity Invitational for charity counts.

I mean, if we counted celebrities then we'd have many Jeopardy millionaires (including even those who did bad on the show like Wolf Blitzer), so I'd prefer to take them out of the equation entirely.Jurimetrician wrote: ↑Fri Sep 24, 2021 3:34 pmFourth or fifth? I immediately thought of "symposium" for DD1 but it's not similar enough to "seminar" in my opinion so I switched to "colloquium" which is similar. I can't complain because the clue was properly pinned but it was tricky.

Re: Friday, September 24, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
There likely have been a number of millionaires who appeared on the show but weren’t celebrities. But Matt is the third to win a million dollars in regular game play after Ken and James. Brad and Michael achieved that in special tournaments.
A fine accomplishment and congratulations to Matt.
Whatever issues he had yesterday cleared up as he steamrolled his competition outside of the slip on DD1.
Instaget FJ.

I didn't think Matt will last this long or get to a million.
Huge congrats to Matt.
Had slight hope of challengers challenging after J round. That ended quickly.
Poor Rebecca. I'd hate my appearance to end up like that. I thought that novel category was hard (including DD2).
DD1 was instaget as I've seen that clue before. I guess there are some advantages to not yet getting on the show.

He's had some lucky breaks, but then, a lot of the game is about lucky breaks. We've talked about that before with respect to each of Brad, Ken, and James.doihavetoreally wrote: ↑Fri Sep 24, 2021 6:56 pm I didn't think Matt will last this long or get to a million.
Based on the number of times so far he has needed luck, I will be surprised if he reaches James in number of games won or winnings, but I would delight in being so surprised. Go, Matt!

I got FJ!, but I don't know history well enough to instantly remember the difference between the Lusitania and the Bismarck, so I had to think about it. I'll read up on both more closely.
I got DD1, but I agree that was a hard one.

I would have liked to see him bet the maximum, for a tidier looking 1,004,400.MarkBarrett wrote:7-figures for Matt who could have been a boss and did his ciphering to land right on the million mark if he chose to do.
Like you, I would have got FJ on just the last line (this ship's last captain in 1915).
Matt's initial Titanic only would have been plausable if there was no mention of enemy ships in the clue.

James' stats are so mind boggling that I didn't realize how close Matt is to #of games won. I guess we'll see some promos if it's happening.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Fri Sep 24, 2021 7:46 pmYou'll be surprised if Matt does not lose by Thursday at the latest.
