Re: Wednesday, October 13, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Mary left 4600 on the table at DD3. She played for second and got it. Jonathan says thank you very much for not recognizing the gift of a 2nd box DD. The other side of that is Jonathan left 3000 on table for DD2 (also in the 2nd box) in a Shakespeare category where Mayim even pointed out it was a strength for him.
The game was a little uneven and rough in spots, but there will be 10 worse ones by the time the season is over.
3/3 on the FJ! clue gave it a good ending. If I would have known it was going to be baseball I would have been even more optimistic going in than when the reveal had me fearing a sport I don't follow as much.
Jonathan was not anywhere close to covering Mary's possible 25200, but his wager did accomplish the goal of a pretty number on the nose.

I wonder which will feel more painful, that or not wagering everything in Final

After the fact, maybe, but without the benefit of that, shouldn't Jonathan feel worse about his wager? Losing from first, after answering FJ! correctly, would have to be the most regretfullest of the retrospective regretfulnesses.Robert K S wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 2:15 pmI wonder which will feel more painful, that or not wagering everything in Final

Giggly Mayim was back: https://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=7165
The host could not keep a straight face in trying to get through the TRIPLE RHYME TIME clues.
No way LSV goes 58/58 for the first two rounds. If Wrestling does not get him, then '80s TV could.

FJ was an instaget. Should use Yogi quotes all the time!

Just a sublime FJ. Not the most difficult, but really perfectly put.

I got FJ no problem. Mayim, though, clearly did not "get" it, meaning she didn't recognize the humor of the quote. She gave context, but not how to solve the clue.
My lucky numbers are 6, 66, and 666.

judges:. Ministry for Missionary on the DD?
FJ sounded enough like the correct response to make this easy.
Now could someone explain the bets?

"blah blah blah Johnny Bench"... yeah, no way in hell I'm getting this one.
"Stand until it was broken" -- bwuh? Yeah, I got nothing.
I know who Yogi Berra is, but this one just didn't click.

The logic on the FJ bets is sound. However, if I had the lead, I would never assume the person in 2nd knew how to correctly wager, and you bet your ass I'm betting to cover. I couldn't justify ever leaving an opening where I could lose from 1st with a correct FJ response.

Watching the wagering in today's program I have to wonder if they have ever watched the program.

Re: Wednesday, October 13, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
There was only one person who could have said the quote stated in FJ.
It was enjoyable watching the contestants today...especially as they tramped through the triple rhyme time. They all looked like they were having fun...especially Mary, who would have won today's contest with a larger FJ wager.

Ugh, mad at myself for missing this one. Knew Bench was a catcher, and thought to myself, "that sounds like a Yogi Berra quote,' but couldn't muster the confidence to pull the trigger. WAGed Gehrig (oof). I'm also just realizing now that I misread the clue, realizing that Berra said the quote himself and not Bench, which I missed and misconstrued somehow (double oof). I gotta stop watching episodes when I'm closing up at work.
Congrats to Jonathan for making the ToC. Okay, he's technically not there yet, but historically, 3xers who knocked off 30 game winners have a 100% qualification rate.
Triple Rhyme Time is one of those categories where I pull an Amodio and ring in and trust myself to suss it out in time. Went 2/5 on paper, but could've worked out another two.

My analysis, for what it’s worth.theFJguy wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 1:33 pm FINAL JEOPARDY! CATEGORY

Jonathan Fisher: 15800+2500=18300 (3x = $70,000)
Bilal Ali: 5400+5395=10795
Mary Garvey: 12600+3300=15900
Correct response:Spoiler
Yogi Berra
Bilal might as well maximize his score to give him the best chance of winning.
Mary probably isn’t a big sports fan (although a legends category might be easier for an older person), so she bet small. Which is fine, but in trying to top Jonathan’s pre-FJ score, she drops behind Bilal’s doubled score of $10,800. Should have capped her bet at $1,799.
I get the impression sports isn’t Jonathan’s strong suit. But I think you should always make the MSB from the lead. If I lose because I miss FJ, that’s too bad but nobody (especially me) is going to know everything. If it is outside my sphere of knowledge, that’s out of my control. But getting it right and getting passed from behind would haunt me until the day I die, especially if I read Twitter, Reddit, or Jboard.
However, his wager did have its merits. It shut out Bilal completely, making it a two player FJ. And if he is wrong, he is still ahead of Mary, so she has to get it right to win.
That being said, I’m betting it all in Mary’s spot. It might not be the most logical wager, but I felt confident enough in that category that I’m going all in. Even taking money out of my wallet and throwing it in.
Got FJ, I showed off and wrote down Lawrence Berra. I agree Mayim didn’t get why the wording was important. Alex certainly would have. This is something the staff should tell her in pre-game prep. But maybe someone explaining the joke who doesn’t know about Berra’s language skills would come off as awkward. But just saying “As only Yogi would say it” adds a little something to the show.

The Seventh Day Adventist clue was tough. Christian sects are a wheelhouse category for me and I was at sea there.
