Re: Monday, October 25, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Floridagator's favorite: Stephen got DJ30 right to make sure Hilary could not have broken the lock.
Jonathan lost 6200 on DD misses and still got the runaway. It's easy if you know 'em as I was the opposite with 3/3 on the DDs.
I guess a little unintended pre-game study can help as I watched two episodes of The United States of Al prior to matching Jonathan on the $200 clues in landlocked countries.
Jonathan gained $6000 of his total entering the FJ! round in TELEVISION HISTORY. If Jonathan were to face Matt again in the ToC, Jonathan has an edge in the entertainment area.
Whatever works: I went the right way for the FJ! clue in using Sigourney Weaver is American.
I'm glad Birutė Galdikas was not the correct response as I have no recognition of the name.
Jonathan has matched Arthur Chu at 11 wins. Next up Seth & Austin.

I flipped a mental coin to decide between Dian Fossey and Jane Goodall. The coin came down the wrong way. How does one get to the right response? I think they are equally famous. They both got their PhDs from Cambridge, but Fossey's was ten years later than Goodall's. Other than knowing that fact, what is there about this clue that points to Goodall more than to Fossey?

Nothing. It's not a very good clue. Like you said, they both got PhD's from Cambridge.Foretopman wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 7:33 pm I flipped a mental coin to decide between Dian Fossey and Jane Goodall. The coin came down the wrong way. I didn't know Fossey did, so I just picked the Brit, figuring the American got it elsewhere. So, I got it right, but for the wrong reason.

Trimates -> Primates -> Goodall. Didn't even consider Fossey.

In general, yes, what he said is true, but that has nothing to do with this clue.Foretopman wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 7:55 pmIs this a joke that I'm not getting?triviawayne wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 7:53 pmGoodall = primatesForetopman wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 7:33 pm I flipped a mental coin to decide between Dian Fossey and Jane Goodall. I got FJ right, partly because I couldn’t recall Fossey’s name.
I was hoping she could break the lock but it wouldn’t have mattered.

If you know nothing but Jeopardy pavlovs, it's an easy clue because of what Wayne posted.
But, if you actually have some smarts, and know that gorillas are primates, then that can cause some indecision. Perhaps this clue is like a question on the college entrance exams, pick the answer that is most right.
The Cambridge part of the clue is just filler, it's meaningless.
Oh, and if you went with Fossey on this clue, you Mist it.

How do you solve DD1? I was stunned to see Wikipedia categorize Hungary as Central Europe instead of Eastern Europe. Since when? And according to who? I have a Czech friend who self-identifies as Eastern European, and the Czech Republic is further west than Hungary, so this is all very perplexing to me.
Edit: Forgot to mention that Wikipedia refers to both Hungary and the Czech Republic as Central Europe, which strikes me as astonishingly incorrect.

You can know both the pavlov and that gorillas are primates; but this is a Jeopardy final, and the discussion is regarding Jeopardy, not life in general.Golf wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 8:54 pmForetopman wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 7:33 pm I flipped a mental coin to decide between Dian Fossey and Jane Goodall. If I had to guess, I would suspect that 90% of the time Jeopardy mentions Goodall, the word primates is lurking about.

Re: Monday, October 25, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
The archive has 49 hits for Goodall and 38 hits for Fossey. In those 49 Goodall clues, "primatologist" appears 3 times, "primate" zero. In the 38 Fossey clues, "primatologist" appears 4 times, "primate" zero.
