I wasn't even thinking about Africa...I went with Argentina. After I saw the answer, it was a facepalm...because "Leone" was so close to Lion.

I overthought the question (always a bad idea in trivia) and wrote in Morocco because the Atlas Lion lives there. You'd think that someone with the screen name "Blue Lion" would be all over a Sierra Leone question, but no.

Canada here. I thought about South Africa, ruled out Namibia and Angola, then figured all of the other eligible African countries were too small to have self-contained mountain ranges that also bordered the Atlantic (ruling out the Congos, for example).

Of course I was thinking about something much longer than 20 miles
That question had me asking "Why the heck would I know this?" the whole time before submitting. I never did get to the Lion Mountains=Sierra Leone. I figured it was probably Africa, and I know Cameroon's soccer team is known as the Indomitable Lions, so I went with that.

Remembered this one from Jeopardy!

#7704, aired 2018-02-22 AFRICA SINCE 1750 $800: Similar to Liberia, this "lion mountains" nation began as a colony for freed slaves in 1787
#7382, aired 2016-10-18 2-WORD COUNTRIES $2000: The name of this West African country may refer to the shape of nearby hills resembling a certain beast
#7311, aired 2016-05-30 AFRICAN COUNTRIES $1600: In 1462 an explorer gave this country its name, possibly because a nearby mountain resembled a lion

Eked one put against BarrettM thanks to defense. We both missed Qs 1 & 2 and got 3-6 right. He gave me a 3 for Nymph.

Went with Bears for the stadium Q. Was set to give him 0 for that one until I saw Q6.

I only have 31 CAA, which is a nice change, especially since I've been on the struggle bus most of this season. That's helping me stay afloat.

Since nobody asked me not to :) :
JBL Bizarro standings. The red font is non-conference games. This game is harder when you play cupcakes so I'm leaving them in the standings. Twelvefootbro is still throwing a perfecto with ten in a row, but I tell him he's lucky he doesn't have to play himself  .
We had our first 36 point day on MD10 with the help of Hollywood Squares for 8 of them, a couple of good gets of nymphs, and a good save by ClassicRoadster to get the surface tension which played at 50% for us.

There's been a lot of crafty plays as I reviewed the matches. Then there is just bad breaks where the TV specialist misses jackass or the historian misses Lincoln/Douglas  . The round robin will be complete on Monday, and we might do a second half bonus or something. This game is very much like Calvinball.

Monday's (MD11) questions were an odd lot. One of those that I read and think it's a possible O'fer, and it could'a been a six-pack if I took more time and did it later in the day.

1) Infrastructure was an easy WAG, thanks to TI's "one word" limiter
2) I knew Farsi was the name of the language, but just answered "language", instead of trying hard enough to get to "Persian" for the poetic effect. "Iranian" is an ugly word, but "Persian" is cool enough to name a cat :)
3) Greenland was a WAG, but "Nuuk" and island kept my choices to Kodiak and Greenland
4) I would have got this on sight if I realized Joule-Thomson was spelled without the "P". I never knew he was 1st Baron Kelvin before becoming Lord Kelvin. Heraldry is weird  .
5) I just choked on Kennedy, he was my primary answer but the SEC chairmanship bothered me. Did we seriously name a rum-runner to head the SEC . It was a case of knowing too much about Poppa Joe. The name Harold Stanton seemed synonymous with FDR, etc.. Could he have held these gigs before becoming SecWar?
6) I NHO Peppa Pig, but it was the headline in my news feed thanks to Boris Johnson. I do LL first, so I wouldn't have used the new answer if I had seen the questions. Too bad I didn't look at news first ;). I lost my ten game streak of wasted zeroes on this clue to ClassicRoadster, but apparently he is an authority on British cartoons :).

---for the Bizarrians:
I think we'll start a second half of the Bizarro season now that we've all played each other once. Streaks will begin anew, and we will try a "Nassau" format with first half/ second half, and overall. It just doesn't seem right that our KerryOakie defending champ is in the cellar :o . (btw, we had a rogue forfeit, which doesn't interrupt streaks, same as a bagel.).

There's already a two page long discussion about this one on the LL forums. I did the same thing you did and answered "language." I even had "Persian" down first, but didn't really believe that "Persian" is the English translation of "Farsi." Don't people speak Farsi? I can't recall ever hearing the language referred to as Persian rather than Farsi. Sort of a dud of a question if you ask me.

Kennedy was the one I had to think of for a while yesterday, but when I thought of Joe Kennedy Sr. that seemed like it had to be correct.

I have kids! They're older now but definitely watched it. Also, TV is my 4th best category and there was a Lit question. Should be an auto-0 there.

I'm almost sure I've heard of Peppa Pig, but as I read I confused ungulate with ruminant, reinforced I think by "cheeky" which created an image of a cow chewing its cud. I went with Clara Cow, which may have been close enough to Clarabelle Cow, if only:

I was surprised to be zeroed on "infrastructure". Don't people notice my .354 Current Events score? What will it take to make people believe?

I had a similar debate between 'language' and 'Persian'

I knew Old Persian was a thing but that just made me a bit more confused. Lucky for me I had 'language' first but decided to switch to 'Persian' at the last minute. Mostly because I figured I could live with being wrong with that answer more easily than the other lol

Those are tough ones because the infrastructure package has been a big news story for weeks now. We figure even those who hate current events might get it through osmosis or something. :)

A .000 Current Events score?

Why did the film Q have to be 'name one of these two' and the art Q be 'name both'?
I could do it the other direction...
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.
Latest movies (1-10): Everything Everywhere All at Once (10), Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken (6), Black Sunday /1960/ (6), Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (7)

Name the two movies that sound like 'the Thin Ted Line' and 'the Thin Shoe Line'.

The first round results for Bizarro standings - Slate will wipe clean for second round now that we all have the hang of it. Looking for a KerryOakie rebound to her LL89 form! The whole thing will also continue for reasons TBD, or just in case  :

tfb is the first round champion, and the rule maker. Surely there isn't a connection . ClassicRoadster and SBurrus are tied with me at ten threes awarded, but my streak broke into unequal pieces giving the edge for long streak. Off the books, twelvefootbro is a perfect 22 point score!
NoWhammies10 hit some untimely misses, but has the DE jersey at 0.156.

It doesn't matter how many study guides and flash cards you have if you don't use them. Fortunately I would have missed the motorcycle question either way, against a 9(6), so it didn't impact my match much, but there's no reason I should have missed Glasgow, or been less than absolutely positive about Meitner.

I got Meitner because I hosted a TD awhile back where I asked for an element named for a scientist. It didn't matter as my opponent got 0 (0), though.

I can't win – I put the 3 on olive branch, but my bizarro opponent was among the 6% who missed that question!

Terrible day - lost 0(1)-4(4). How did I miss Glasgow and Mt. Fuji (went with Iwo Jima on the photography association hint)??

I was stuck between Rainier and Fuji for a bit, then the second photography hint finally clicked (originally thought it had something to do with Hokusai)
