It always stings when players don't know the basics of the board game Clue. :(

Andrew was 50% on DDs and losing 6 large meant next to nothing overall.

The FJ! category had me precall four names: Shepard, Wasserstein, Ensler and what turned out to be the right name

The FJ! clue had me failing at first to recognize that I already had the name on my precall list and I went on a brief detour to A Man for All Seasons off 1966. Back on track I wrote the correct name and figured (without certainty) I was right.

I'm glad the clue did not ask me to recall the Shakespeare play as that would have had some percentage of a chance of my blowing it.

The DISNEY+ category had me only managing 2/5 although I could have had 3 if I had taken a chance on the top box stumper. LSV can likely kiss his perfecto goodbye as there has to be at least one something in there that gets by him.

Andrew gets to return for a new taping day with wins and money to immediately catch the attention of the new pool of players.

Ken says the right things well often and I liked his, "You're a six-figure Jeopardy! champion".

In one of those coincidences, just the other day I read an excerpt from R & G Are Dead. Also, when I was in high school I was in a production of Stoppard's The Real Inspector Hound. But for some reason, whenever I try to access Stoppard's name, I first have to swat away Peter Shaffer, so while I got this FJ! right, I didn't get to it as quickly as I should have.

Today's FJ had me in a panic as I thought it would ruin my perfecto for the week. The clue popped on screen, and the beginning half was of no help to me. I tried frantically to think of plays that had plays within them and was getting nowhere.

I then focused on the correct part of the clue: "this man who was inspired by Shakespeare".

Oh... so you're just asking for guy who wrote Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead and the screenplay for Shakespeare in Love? I know that!

After having a longest streak of maybe 9 or 10 FJs in a row, I'm now sitting at 18 straight and my 3rd brag box in a row.

Added Mamet and Kushner to my precall list but had no trouble connecting on Stoppard. 5/5 for the week!

Congrats to Andrew for a third impressive win in a row.

Because of precedent. It's been written with " 's " once before in a clue and several times previously accepted as such.

Welp, looks like my "Let's go, Brennan" cheers didn't work. ;)
Plenty of trash available for pickup:. Conservatory, no-kill, Exorcist DD, tuna, Broadcast, Gingerbread, oracle, Edinburgh.
That would be wasted as I went :D :( :( :( on big clues. Tried Pablo Neruda as the play sounded somewhat Spanish.

I checked and it's closer to 8 times (wrongly) in clues. So, basically, they have no choice at this point but to perpetually accept a wrong response.

I know of R&G Are Dead, but somehow the name "Tom Stoppard" never came along with it. Must not be Hawley-Smoot enough.

William Peter Blatty? No? Turned heads? Still nothing? 1971 bestseller? Oh boy. I guess Dorothy's just too young. That didn't even seem like a DD clue so much as something that would've been a gift to the fastest thumb. The other contestants joined Dorothy for an attack of TYS (Too Young Syndrome) in DJ when they couldn't identify the 1972 disaster flick with the song "The Morning After". I was born in '65, but that's old enough to have absorbed basic information about The Exorcist and The Poseidon Adventure.

I was also surprised by the TS over a Sibyl being "one of these, from the Latin for to pray or to speak".

He had the chance to respond correctly with "What's Up?" and He blew it. Sigh. Matt Amodio would've gotten that one.

I joined He in his puzzlement over and eventual right response to DD3: "This animal is a synonym for evasive or sneaky as it was thought to suck out the contents of an egg while leaving the shell intact." Weasel is NOT a synonym for evasive or sneaky. Unless the writers have some weasel excuse. With apologies to Ron and his family, weaselly is the synonym. Would they have accepted "What is weaselly?" I hope so. It's no more wrong than the response they did accept.

I saw the FJ category and worried it was going to be the author of Angels in America. I never remember his name. I recognize it, but only when someone else mentions it as threearruda did in this thread. Tony Kushner. Fortunately FJ was a slam dunk for me, though perhaps on the obscure but still fair side for many? We'll see how it polls. I've read Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead multiple times, most recently within the past year. It's a wonderfully witty existentialist play--Waiting for Godot with a sense of humor. I recommend it highly. I can't, unfortunately, recommend the film version with Gary Oldman and Tim Roth. It's lugubriously paced when it should really play like an extended Monty Python sketch. It lacks the wink and the nod that lets the audience in on the joke--except for Richard Dreyfuss as The Player. I don't generally care for Dreyfuss because he never seems genuine. He's a put-on. But that weakness becomes a total strength given the nature of this role. Still, don't see the movie. Read the play which is laugh-out-loud funny, and keep your eyes peeled for a community theater production of it that will likely be 20 times better than the film.

I'd forgotten about Stoppard's connection to Shakespeare in Love (mentioned upthread). That's another way in to this clue. Not his finest work, in my opinion, but even an absurdist has to eat. If you want top notch film writing from Stoppard, go with his collaboration with Terry Gilliam and Charles McKeown on 1985's Brazil. There's your Monty Python connection and some of his finest work outside R&GAD.

I mean, it's not terrible. And it's Tom Stoppard's only directing credit (make of that what you will...)
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.
Latest movies (1-10): Everything Everywhere All at Once (10), Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken (6), Black Sunday /1960/ (6), Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (7)

Yep. I don't think anyone will hate it if they see it. I just wouldn't want anyone thinking the play must not be that good because the film's only ok. If only Gilliam had directed it!
